I think the sigil will look like crap and we'll all be laughing about this "issue" in 5 days.
It's not a point of how it looks, but rather the fact that it's a status symbol. As irrelevant as some(myself included) may find it, I still think it's just salt on wounds.
Young people (under about 30 or so) have been raised where everyone gets a trophy for sports in school, even if they didn't even play in a single game themselves. They "expect" to be given everything that the other guy gets, whether he did anything to deserve it or not.
"It's not FAIR that he got something and I didn't." It's the same mentality that the "Occupy Wall Street" protesters have. "I went to the same college as that guy and he makes twice as much money as I do. It's not FAIR!" Dry your tears. No one even hinted that life would be fair. You get what you are offered in this life and you learn to like it or you try harder to get what you want next time.
So you didn't get the FoS for the beta. That's why it's called "EXCLUSIVE". It literally means that not everyone will have it.
That is straight up dumb. They have said in the past that they would not add feats for their betas. This time around you couldn't even buy a key if you really wanted it unlike the past. So basically this is a feat the collectors won't be able to get and a slap in the face for people who have played their games for nearly 20 years and never received a beta invite.
Im a completes when it comes to achievements and such. This makes me sad that i didn't get into the closed beta, but people who got into the beta test but never downloaded it and did absolutely nothing to help getting this kind of sucks. During the open beta weekend i leveled up every class to 13 and spent a loooooong time "testing", I would like a feat of strength for doing the same thing that the invited people did.
But, it's not worth any achievement points so it's really not a big deal, besides ill have CE goodies to make it all better. Idc about a stupid banner sigil.
I'd have loved this FoS as well. In my opinion it's a big dumb to give them out by random chance.
do you also think it's dumb that there are FoS for blizzcon, and only people who could afford it got it? How about FoS for beating parts of wow YEARS ago, when some people couldn't / weren't playing?
It's a FoS for a reason, it falls under the same category of; Super muthafuckin hard to get, practically impossible to get, you need over 9000 luck, ect ect.
OMG blizzard seriosuly f**k you guys, I tried so hard in arena for this frostwyrm mount and feat of strength, but I didn't get it. It's not fair, why don't you give it to all your real fans who really wanted to be first in arena for that season

and omg f**k you again blizzard! for not giving me a ticket for 2005's blizzcon. I tried really hard to get a ticket from here in australia but obviously my internet is not as fast as being in america so it;s not fair! I'm your biggest fan I've bought all your games multiple times each! not fair, let me have this one too!
The FoS is entitled "One of the Chosen" (correct me if I'm wrong). CHOSEN was the keyword.
Ok yeah, it is unfair to those that think and know they could have contributed to the beta better and more even than those that got some of the keys and for some reason didn't use them (lazy, missed, etc.). And you are completely in your right to react negatively to this and actually complain about it.
But take it from this point of view: I don't think we should take it as a reward even if they (Blizzard) say it is. For me it's more of a token of appreciation to those closed beta players that actually helped by filing the tickets to report bugs, rate the game play and give back important feedback and test the general feel of the game. And to actually scan the server database (that I know would be so full of data from the closed beta and open beta weekend) for people that actually logged in and contributed would be a pain in the ass and take too much time. Come on guys, we're on the final stretch (less than a week to go woot!) and they're now gearing up for the actual time we would flood the server gates. They want to appreciate what the close beta players did (most likely this is unplanned and actually out of the time frame they have) and to go the extra mile to give out their appreciation is good.
Okay admittedly they would actually be giving some people something they didn't deserve, but are we going to deprive those that deserved it just for them?
To those that think that such a reward or token isn't just or right or fair, I got friends that got into the closed beta (I didn't) and I know how hard they worked during the beta. Literally filing ticket after ticket, not just playing the game but thoroughly testing for possible bugs and weaknesses. I think they did a good job, actually an excellent one. I don't think what you are asking (not giving it out) is just or right or fair.

I don't understand the idea that they are entitled to anything other than early access to a game we are all dying to play for their efforts. I know I would've done just as much if I had gotten into beta as far as bug reporting and suggestions go.
Unfortunately I wasn't given the chance and now I will be reminded every time I look at my achievements (which is damn often).
Yes, I am complaining. No, I don't think it's that big of a deal. No, this will not ruin the game for me. I will enjoy it every bit as much. I'm just a little sad that I won't be able to have all the achievements. That's what I wanted from this game. Now that part is over before the game is even released. :/

As I said, I don't see it as an entitlement. More like a token of appreciation. This things don't usually come to mind in the beginning of development, more like "in the moment" ideas. They (Blizzard) want to show the closed beta testers they appreciated the efforts exerted. To me it isn't a reward.
With regards to them being lucky... That's it exactly, they were chosen and they were lucky for it. Sure some just lounged it off and actually don't deserve s#!% of any recognition at all. What I'm saying is we're withholding rewarding those that actually worked simply because there are those that didn't work. And that to me isn't fair.
An if i'm not mistaken, the FoS won't show in your achievement menu. Maybe you will just remember that you're missing one even if there isn't an icon there that is gray but that's up to you. Actually even I'm a bit down I won't get it... But I know people that would just loved to get it cause they actually worked on it. And those people are my friends!
To quote Mass Effect 2, "There is too much sadness in this world to add my own..." Some people deserve it and I don't like to withhold it simply because those that don't deserve it will get it too.

+1 for use of penguin in profile.
