Yes Blizzard is getting a cut of it, but it is also something that the players of Diablo 2 were using and like that they now have a secure way to get gold and items instead of opening themselves up to hackers and credit fraud.
Actually, only a minority of D2 players used battle.net, and only a small minority of those people every bought or considered buying third-party items. The overwhelming majority saw it as a single-player game, and couldn't have cared less about the launch issues involved with battle.net server stress. But far be it from me to interrupt a hard-working paid poster from his or her job.
Any other bits of revisionist history for us? Did Diablo III development begin in 2006 despite the V Lee signed 2003 concepts which clearly informed present art which we can see on the incgamers wiki?
Interesting point. Next time I'm at the bank or broker, I'll try to explain to them that despite the fact I've had no worries or incidents with them over the past decade or two, the video game I spent $65 on a couple of weeks ago has convinced me that I need a plastic keychain to continue securely logging in on their systems.
Hopefully, they will have had their morning coffee already, so it doesn't come out their nose.
Not every bank uses key fobs or security tokens (what the authenticator is called) but a lot do. Some even charge you a lot more then $6.50 (the cost to make it). They certainly won't start laughing as you seem to indicate. Banks take security very seriously, just as blizzard does.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digipass as well as Vasco's own website indicates clearly that plenty of institutions around the world use Authenticators. Including banks. My dad's company uses one to log into their network from a remote location.

So because I disagree with you I am a paid poster changing history? Look if you are going to discuss and stick to your argument that is fine. But there is no need to insult people that look at the information at hand and the statements made by Blizzard and come to a different conclusion.
No matter what you want to believe the fact still stands that Blizzard has always seen DIablo as a Online only game and the AH is something that the player base of D2 wanted by the way they embraced the various third-party websites that did the same. Also the fact that Diablo 2 is still going strong in Battle.net after all these years shows that its player base is an online one. It doesn't matter how many people only played single player. What matters is that Blizzard and the fan base wanted certain features, and then those features were implemented.
This will make a few of you happy. A few hours ago Athene types his password into the "Account Name" entry field while streaming. As such, his account has been hacked and is temporarily banned until Athene faxes in his driver licenses and proves the account rightfully belongs to him.
It is this exact reason I put up a splash screen while streaming just in case of things like this. Hehehe.
I also put an authenticator on my account after my wow got taken over awhile back and would recommend anyone else do the same just in case. The phone ones are free the physical ones are cheap and sold at cost.
Feel for him, really, but maybe that's because I've never followed him and don't really care to.. so I don't either hate or love him.. I just know it sucks to lose your account for a time.
So because I disagree with you I am a paid poster changing history?
No, but because you're a new member with a minimal profile that takes a strong interest in fanatically defending the Kotick line, you quite possibly are one.
An assertion of Diablo as "always being online only" probably indicates a paid poster that was born after Bush Sr was elected, as well. I didn't know that the millions of copies it sold over 15 years ago - or the playstation version that came out shortly after - or the fact that the battle.net accounts created a dozen years ago were a fraction of the copies sold of D2 - were due to the fact that everyone was actually buying an "online only" game. The idea that fans "wanted" to be unable to play while servers are off line or while they have the audacity to take a trip on a plane etc is almost as fascinating.
But thanks for playing! Hopefully you still make more than the poor GMs in Texas, if you keep on posting enough.
it's kinda fucked up hes raising money for a charity yet still people bash him
No, what's fucked up is people like you hear the word 'charity' and instantly assume someones a good person. "Oh he must be good, he said he raises money for charity!". Have you every actually researched any charities? If you've donated, have you actually followed the money to exactly where it goes? Of course not, because it makes you feel better inside that you mindlessly gave your money away.
The truth is, there are a LOT of charities out there that can be deemed criminal organizations. Even some of the big named ones, no one can follow the money. No one has any idea where it goes. Here's my favorite example; George Bush and Al Gore started a charity for 9/11 victims right after the attacks. Millions were given. Both those men then go on T.V to state they have no idea where the money went. I'm not saying they stole it, but I am saying that just blindly giving money doesn't do anyone good.
TLDR; Just because someone is sending money to a charity doesn't mean they are doing good, and as such isn't evidence against the fact that athene is a tool.
People like me? i actually work for this charity, So yes i do have a vague idea of where this money goes and what it is used for.
it's conspiracy theorists like you who havent a fucking clue what they're talking about and just blab on to make themselves feel
self important when really your just contributing to Alex Jones or Jesse Ventura fucking stupid T.V show cause you think the whole world is courrupt.

For someone accusing others of being paid posters you sure only read what you want to. I said that Blizzard saw it as one, but designed it as offline play because of the tech at the time. Blizzard themselves have said that if the technology (I.E. Broadband) was as prolific when Diablo 2 came out that they would have made it online only. It has nothing to do with Kotic either since Kotic had nothing to do with Blizzard when they released Diablo 2. You would be better to say Vivendi SA since they are the ones that still own Blizzard as they have the majority control of Activision Blizzard.
http://www.youtube.c...o7LvA5pA#t=139s states their view and they say "Diablo is inherently Multiplayer". "We feel very strongly that Diablo is an online game, it is a cooperative game."
Fans wanted more secure play. Requires online or hacks and dupes will be just as common as D2. Fans wanted to seemlessly play solo and online. Requires characters to be stored online otherwise they can be hacked and edited easier. Fans wanted secure way to trade both for gold and Real Money. Requires it to be only to limit hacked/duped/cheating in regards to trading. Fans wanted the things they made D3 into.
Not every fan, but the game is better for the changes they made. And it isn't the number of posts you make, but the quality of them. Just because I have a low post count doesn't mean I'm a paid Blizzard supporter any more then your high amount of Blizzard hate posts makes you a paid Blizzard Basher. If being considered 23 or younger means I don't result to insults and bash a company then I guess I'm 23 or younger.
He raises money for charity, who cares about what happens. I'm totally with him, helping children > being jealous about someone that is overgeared in d3...
I don't even get it why should anyone be happy about this. Did he hurt you or what ? Noone forced you to watch his videos, yet if you watched them even if you hate Athene, then it's ur own fault and should look in the mirror when searching for someone to hate.
couldnt have happened to a better kissass bloodsucking attentiongrabbing retard.
You sir, are an extremely ignorant kid. Seriously, why would you call a person, who is doing so much good, giving away his OWN stuff and money to charity, organizing charity events, creating a great gaming community like that? Because he seems arrogant in his videos? It's called acting! Athene is just a made up persona, with a really great man behind it. Before opening your mouth next time, I'd better think about how stupid your responses are.
Smoke his pole more. I bet you're one of those kids that just hands him money. He is a pure retard for not having an authenticator
Yeah. Last I checked, Blizzard would give back ALL of your gear, twice in an accounts lifetime. Why is he not doing this.......???? Oh wait, because then he wouldn't get all the money and gear he is getting right now for free, while the gear he lost sits on an alt account.

Hahaha, so many basement trolls here.
He never actually got hacked, when someone tried to log on to his account it was instantly frozen by Blizzard.
He was just trolling the live stream at the time.
Yet people are still giving him all the of the replacement gear and gold...... funny. People are such suckers.
stop speaking if u haven't watched the stream OK ? Damn ppl that just speak what they know without any research .. And he is doing charity in the end .. and nobody care ffffffffffffffffffffffffs... u guys think he only NEED MOAR GEAR NEED MOAR GEAR

Hahahah, people are giving him gold knowing he hasn't been hacked.
They are doing it for him to make his stream for charity more interesting, thus generating more donations.
Keep making shit up in your head though, it's ok.
Keep supporting someone that has yet to give shit to charity. Gonna laugh when he just up and disappears with all that money. Troll you kids super hard.

Getting "hacked" now means "giving out your password on a live stream"?
roflol, you kids.
Could any of you guys direct me towards a Blizzard game that DIDNT get several patches and balance changes post release?
Just 1?
No?
Hmmmm.....
