I freaking knew he was gonna SOME sort of pic at us. I literally said to myself... this guys is going to try to post a picture if we keep proding him.
Why should I care? It's a picture. I got tired of explaining things in words, so posting a picture was an easy way to quit having a silly conversation, you silly person.
Working your joints for any reason that won't help you land your partner or help you get your job is basically saying F-U to the future you that is going to be using your body in their forties.
Joints have a limited span of use, your "fitness" is actually an early-life blowout of your body.
I'm not saying this as a fat person, but as someone who, when given the opportunity to, overly pushed my body on a five-day a week basis.
Cartilage is only temporary bro, consider trying to keep it.
Being able to lift a barbell counts for absolutely jack unless you have a profession where you need strength (dock worker, firefighter, prison guard, military).
Some very misleading (and weird) points there.
You say there is no point in working your body unless it's to acquire a partner or for job purposes. Then you go on to say that if it's not for a job, it's pointless. Where did the partner go?
And, you should probably read the recommendations of the ACSM (American College of sports Medicine). A healthy exercise plan for older adults (60+) is a minimum of 30 minutes at least 5 days a week (aerobic activity) with weight training 3 days a week. You can imagine what the recommendations for younger people are...
Then you get the strength training, endurance training and power training which are all different and none of which have substantial body of evidence to indicate that any may cause serious damage to soft tissues.
Many people take hormones designed for animals and many other enhancer drugs to boost performance or getting bigger which can damage the body but the exercises themselves are widely (and with good reason due to extensive research done) regarded within the medical field as an excellent, non-intrusive, safe and cheap treatment pathway.
Exercises are commonly used to in rehabilitation for knee and hip osteoarthritis(wearing/inflammation of joints) and for many other conditions.
End note- fitness 'now' is not for show nor is it likely to be detrimental if you stayed away from enhancer drugs. A good fitness level greatly decreases your chances of developing low back pain which can literally own a person's ass in ANY kind of job.
Core strength..blablabla...blablabla
Anyway could go on and on since I've been doing research at uni on the whole deal. I just don't feel like looking up the references right now.

No. Its your end goal by this whole thread. You are peacocking (If that really is you)...... You are trying to go on a diablo fansite forum to talk about yourself, and baiting people into "baiting" you to put up a picture. Presumably in the end goal of attracting (probably based on the statistical population of this site) a male mate.
Otherwise why would you go on a male dominated site and start talking about your abs and how some other male has a crush on you... continue talking about how great you are and then throw up a pic of (some guys) abs?

Remember the String of Ears
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
I usually hunt the chicken down myself, pluck their feathers with my eyebrows, disembowel them with the back of my knee, get the good-for-eating parts off with my heels, then cook them in a pot heated with the sexual essence of my amazing abs. When I don't feel like doing that, I just order KFC.
I know right? It's not like I was hungry at 3AM in the morning and the only place that delivers at that time is KFC. It's my natural tendency to be pathetic and an ample amount of missing taste buds. Can you please direct me to the nearest suicide booth?
I stand by my statement; it is a sad life you lead where your only option is KFC.
If you lived in a real city, there are 24 hour diners and grocery stores.
If you either knew how to cook, or had a loved one to cook for you, they could make you real fried chicken, with actual gravy (made from the chicken grease), in around half an hour.
If they threw in homemade biscuits, or potato salad, you would have a real meal, as opposed to a bland slop of generally the same color that you just shove down your gullet to survive.
KFC is a flavorless mush, and if that is what makes you happy, I pity you.
Honestly and sincerely, no matter who you are, you deserve better.
The Colonel should commit seppuku.
There is either something SERIOUSLY warped in your tastebuds, or the KFC in your area isn't prepared well
Lol@you take some mindless examples literally and as proof of my ideals and opinions, by the way. Lol@you thinking about this on your way to school, what the fuck? Having kids is a dream for some people. If everyone were to follow your advice, it would be a sad day for humanity.
Why would you mention super models if you didn't think they were the ideal women?
You brought it up under the pretext that unless I was married to one, I couldn't pity you, as if the fact that you think KFC is yummy isn't enough reason for my pity.
Having kids is a pretty low-grade dream, it is not like getting pregnant is difficult (and there is always adoption).
People in civilized nations, where the economy has already boomed and settled down, have less kids.
Kids are sorta a thing for poor people and fundamentalist religious nuts.
It is not like pregnancy does great things for a woman's body either.
Humanity of course would never fully go for the "lets not have children" plan, so there will always be kids.
But caring for "humanity" is pretty bizarre, unless you believe in reincarnation, or you believe that mankind will eventually escape the Earth and live amongst the stars, what is the point about caring about the future of the human race? Eventually this planet will be inhabitable.
Resources being as bare as they are, the less kids everyone has the better.
You really think the coleslaw is individually packaged for your freshness? I imagine they have 5 gallon buckets.
But what are you doing ordering a normal size thing of coleslaw anyway? It is freaking watery cabbage mixed with mayonnaise.
He doesn't know the hetrosexual life dream so he makes assumptions while he's trying to fit in.
Dude, joints break down and cartilage wears off if you put more stress on them than they can handle. That happens when you're on stuff like anabolic steroids or somatotropin. I'm on neither. I don't carry so much weight that it becomes painful. I have absolutely no problem with my body. Everybody I know who works out properly, with out hormonal supplementation, has none of the problems you are describing. Besides, working out can't be the only factor that can make your joints cock up, or cause any other joint/cartilage related issue. You aren't conducting a frikkin' clinical trial where the only variable is working out. I accept your premise, I reject your conclusion.
Anyway could go on and on since I've been doing research at uni on the whole deal. I just don't feel like looking up the references right now.
My experience is working with the men and women in the military whose bodies cannot sustain exercising five days a week with occasional endurance activities like running through the woods with weights.
With Command Sergeant Majors dropping dead like flies after retirement.
With knowing dozens of people who have either fibromyalgia, or have some sort of cartilage problem, or who have had x many knee/ankle surgeries.
I know three people, including myself, with costochondritis.
If you want to research overuse of the body at an early age, and the effect that has on joints, visit your local VA hospital's physical rehabilitation clinic.
(or read papers about studies done on veterans, there likely is a rather large body of research).
Eh...you didn't address anything I said. I have no idea why you quoted me at all. What does either costochondritis or fibromyalgia have to do with exercising with the daily RECOMMENDED levels of activity?
From your experience, tell me- how many hours do the military train a day?
Do you actually know what it takes to get overuse of joints and lasting soft tissue damage at an early age? Did you get the impression that OP is getting to that stage for you to make those outstanding claims that I challenged in your previous post?
40 minutes five days a week, sandwiched between 20 minutes of stretching.
Push ups, sit ups, running
sometimes with minimal weight added
Every three to six months, add a twenty kilometer march cross country with at least 75 lbs of gear (young dumbasses such as myself would add another 50 lbs to our rucksacks though, because we are stupid, and we would then run the entire thing even though we have hours to complete it).
Every three to six months, add a physical fitness test that (might have changed since my time) requires you to do as many push ups as you can in 2 minutes, as many sit ups as you can in 2 minutes, and run two miles as fast as possible.
So mostly isometric exercise, turning fit 18 year olds into broken down 24 year olds.
I think you can easily screw yourself for life pushing your body to its max endurance wise, and once you screw up cartilage in some area you are hosed.
OP says he isn't overly straining himself or taking drugs, so I guess it isn't a problem.
I actually need to actively research this topic to determine if this level of activity is enough to lead to substantial and long-term soft tissue damage in individuals.
Not trying to demean you and I'm sure this was a typo but what you described are not isometric exercises. They are isotonic ones.
Also, I think you will be pleased to know that cartilage does regenerate. It's usually genetic conditions or physiological imbalances that upset the regenerative process.
Another important point is that if any large body of evidence- as you've mentioned- were pointing out that this training level was affecting a fair percentage of the troops, a revision of their exercise programme would have long been enforced. My humble opinion.
[Pure speculation] The thing is I *think* the men and women having lasting permanent damage to their body may have had underlying conditions/pathologies or unfavorable genetic predispositions making them unsuitable to handle the level of activity required of military training.
And you would appreciate that you cannot extrapolate observations from a group obviously involved in extreme levels of fitness to claim that fitness is just for show or that it is useful for particular jobs. Because it is not the case.
It is common knowledge that body type and genetic pre-disposition have a much greater effect on how your body looks (or can look, with training) than a training regimine. As far as not being able to tell, it's not all that elusive. A trainer or coach with a mild background in kineseology should be able to guage what your body can do with a moderate workload and a few tests to see which phenotype you are and how your body is reacting to the training process.
Well, as far as predispositions, no one knows if they are predisposed to something until they push themselves to the limit where it shows.
Is that enough to warrant telling people to take it easy unless they are trying to accomplish something they will care about for the rest of their lives?
It is enough for me at least.
Your answer to my previous question about OP's training regime was you didn't think he was overdoing it. So...
Is it that you were caring or trying just to be mean? I'm confused.
And I think I already pointed out that fitness(even getting ripped) without drugs enhancers will hardly push you to the level of extreme physical activity leading to damaged joint.
I know you can rehabilitate injured joints, but once you injure your knee, or ankle, or back, or a joint in your sternum, you will have to worry about reinjuring that area for the rest of your life.
You are seriously undervaluing to what extent a *good* rehabilitation programme can be beneficial. Restoring muscle strength, length and flexibility, pushing proprioception to its optimal level or maintaining the congruency and integrity of joints are among the main goals of rehab training. If the latter manages to achieve an optimal balance to all these, there is no reason to worry. However there's still a plethora of factors that comes into play. What most people tend to overlook is that active rehab lasts for a short amount of time but say recovering (completely) from muscle atrophy will take much longer. Recurrent injuries are most often the own person's fault for failing to comply to prescribed long-term exercises. Also there is a very large psychological(more than actual physical) component to all this worry- reason which many people are screened for yellow flags. Once again your gross oversimplification of the situation is very misleading.
To make matters worse, you don't even know the OP's training regime. It's poor lifting technique and incorrect form that mostly lead to injuries during strength training and we don't know anything of what he is doing. You've just lumped exercises in one big group and drawn very random conclusions from...basically nothing.
The military doesn't have to worry so much about long term joint health because it has a high turn over rate.
Regardless, joint problems are supposedly worth the cost on the assumption that, maybe, being as fit as possible will be what makes the difference in a life or death situation (and it might).
I was merely going off from your fit 18 year old to broken 24 year old. I'm pretty sure the military will see it as a vast waste of resources to not being able to use a...24 year old.
But if your job is as a civilian computer programmer, and you don't think you need to be ripped and exhausting your body five days a week to land a mate, how are you benefiting from pushing it?
5 days a week with 45 min sessions is hardly pushing it. Getting ripped is merely a control of diet and balanced regular exercises.
As for how a computer programmer benefits from it, let me explain-
Weight training emphasizes the core of your body in all activities. Furthermore deep neck muscles are also recruited during many lifting maneuvers. A proper and regular training routine while strengthening and toning these muscles helps us maintain a good posture.
Now, guess what? Chronic neck pain and low back pain are among the most common complaints with computer users(along with the lack of new porn). Both of which can be circumvented through...what you call pushing it.
And I am not even going into the social aspect of training with others or practicing a team sports or the stress-relieving hormone secreted by the body through regular physical activity...
So many advantages for a....computer programmer.
How is it not a temporary aesthetic gain at the risk of long term pain and disability?
The aesthetic gain is done mostly through...diet. Something which you've been claiming to be an expert on and I thought you would know.
A very simple exercise routine can get you ripped. These are FACTS, not anecdotes.
Low body fat + exercise(the moderate kind)= ripped body.
Truth is most of us are too lazy and have poor commitment to achieve this goal. However, it is by all means an excellent goal to try and reach.
