Had my first death. Some kind of skeleton with Shielding and Freezing power ups. Along with a ton of other mobs since someone started the king of the hill type event near the drowned temple.
I see everyone angry or upset about the game and I cannot understand why. The game is great for what it is. We have more story than D2 did, sure it was a bit predictable but that's largely because I've watched it so closely. I still wanna see where they take it next. The maps seem fine to me they get sort of boring but so did D2's. The events do make up for it for the most part to me. Builds aren't as viable as I had thought they would be, but the game is also a lot harder than I imagined in my head so I find myself using a lot of defensive abilities just in case.
Overall I was afraid it was going to just be a huge letdown to me because it was really hyped but I'm actually having fun and interested to get further on more characters, see how the RMAH works and see where they take the story in the future.
Man, Diablo 3 is such a letdown. The story was nonsensical with stupid plot twists that makes no sense. The gameplay is solid but god fucking damn if the maps aren't tedious. Yes, the first playthrough was good but without randomized maps every single playthrough after that gets extremely fucking repetitive.
And the balance, my fucking god the balance. The "all builds are viable" approach they wanted to take clearly didn't work out since there are about three viable builds per class.
Yes, I'm disappointed and yes I'm pretty god damned mad.
Really? Have you played Dungeon Sleep ...er I mean Siege 2? Now there is endless repetitive god awful play through.
I don't understand people that are bitter about Diablo 3 either. It's like they forgot what a dungeon crawler is. I enjoy all of the acts so far in Diablo 3. I hated... and I mean hated act 2 (except for the arcane sanctuary, that place was cool) and act 3 (i hated them little bastard pygmy things with the blow darts) in Diablo 2. I've messed around with all of the classes a bit so far and find them all pretty enjoyable. The difficulty is also proving more fun the further I get.
Randomized maps is still giving me content I haven't seen. Even in Act 1 which I've played the hell out of between all of my alts.
I've got 0% MF right now, though, and that is not very cool.
I finally get my CE tomorrow. Coming in USPS, and it says that it may require delivery confirmation, even though Amazon doesn't require delivery confirmations. I'll be so pissed if it did, and nobody was home to sign for it. Then I'd have to eat a banana in order to calm down.
I wonder if anybody would get that reference.

Seriously! I recall my very first crawler game Gauntlet!
Followed by Dungeon Master! If you think back to D1 and even D2 and compare it to D3, D3's graphics, game play, and story line is so much better than either of those games!
...and people are complaining about this?!?!?
What would these complainers compare it to? the banal eternal repetitive dullness of Dungeon Siege? The 52 billion boring bullshit side quests of Neverwinter Nights series or Baldurs Gate series? PuLEASE! I hate the D&D RPG games!
Step into a room and suddenly you are confronted with some bad ass creatures in lack luster graphics, after you read or hear their mewing dialog diatribe and THEN select the multiple choice crap answer of what you are going to say back at them, ONLY THEN do you you begin to fight (as if you had to guess that was coming).
OH WAIT, I need to hit pause while I prepare each of one of my 4 or more characters weapons, spells, potions, etc. blah, etc. THEN FINALLY resume the fight, OH but then I'm getting my ass kicked! WAIT I need to pause AGAIN because my characters are attacking the wrong monster, rinse lather and repeat, rinse lather and repeat, until the shit battle is over.
IF I won, then I have to wait for all my lame characters who always go down to heal enough to become conscious and get off the ground and/or resurrect the dead ones. Then later I go online and chat with some no-life poster who is an expert on the game and informs you one of my characters are diseased and the other is cursed and laughs that I didn't concoct the proper counter spell [found on page 150 of the mother fucking user manual]. WTF?!?!
As if I have the time or patience for all that shit?!

>_> I remember playing that with my brother as a kid. I loved that game.
But I agree with what you said. People are so easy to judge a game these days. I read a lot of forums, and the stupidity I come across towards Diablo 3 is incredible. As if it's impossible to enjoy more than one game. For someone like me who has kind of been craving an MMO but not really enough to pay $15/month, this is more than anything I could ask for. It's fun, challenging, and looks great.
Just read this post I came across on another forum... I mean seriously...
Ok, I did the whole deal with Blizzard, pay for 1yr of WoW, get into Betas and free D3.
On 5/15 I tried to download the game. It said I didn't meet system requirements, however ...I easily out do the max requirements (except updating my Vista - which I refuse to do).
Finally, I got it to download (after 8 hours of trying) only to have it stop and crash at 99.99%.
I started over with it on 5/16 - same thing.
Finally my husband just copied the files from his computer to mine and I was able to play.
~~
I loved D2, let me just go on record for that.
I AM glad that I did not actually pay for this game (would have continued to pay for WoW regardless).
It is D2 with a slightly different look. You go to all the same places, do all the same things, it's just...boring.
My husband is almost finished with the game. In fact, I would imagine that by time this is posted, he is done. He began playing it the afternoon of 5/15 - that puts total time played as about 20 hours. (between work, the kids, real life) Granted this is on the lowest level, but at the same time ......really? I have PS3 games that took longer to finish than that!
I found the most funny party "I refuse to update my Vista" lol.. that's why the game wouldn't install idiot. >_>
And here's a reply I got when posting in the same thread:
Well enjoy playing the same content with the same bad writing and voiceovers I guess.. .Oh wait the mobs have more health and hit harder so it's a WHOLE NEW GAME or something right? right?
Personally the terrible netcode response really sealed the deal (delayed click responses in solo play, not being able to log in etc etc). I won't pay 60 dollars for a single player game that can only be played with an internet connection.
I honestly don't know why I read the forums I quoted from anymore... the place is full of idiots white knighting their game of choice. You can't mention another game at all without getting people laughing at your idiotic choice to play something else.
I got my CE and didn't have to eat a banana. Just one question, how are the servers doing lately? Should I wait a few more days to play without getting booted or errors or shit like that? Doesn't matter if I do, since I have other things to occupy me. Such as College Graduation for Associate's Degree in CAD. Gonna continue and eventually get a Ph. D. in Biomechanical Engineering and I could build prosthetics that will be better than the original limbs.

Mine are even better.

Diablo 3 is the ShizNit!
I do not get the reference, but it evokes thoughts
LOL
Holy fuck, this game makes my heart happy. Four years of waiting for the game of my dreams finally paid off.
I'll write a formal review of it once I finish Hell difficulty.
