To be honest, i don't care how long it will take until D3 release, i only concerned if D3 would be a single player game (sure, you can still challenge mobs or other players via BN) or a MMORPG like WoW. I highly doubt if D3 can still win great success as a solo game like Oblivion. I mean, things have undergone a little change, our taste have changed too. Are you still willing to solo the countless mobs just for EXP? In the meantime, a game based on battle net still lacks interaction and cooperation. I can still remember the moment we defeat Rag for the first time in WoW, 40 members prepared for at least 30 days, it's a great challenge. I can hardly imagine... we will be the hero for a second time for slaying Diablo in D3 like we did in D2...only by one player... It would be a nightmare...
Well, this is certainly the most common discussion regarding D3, and the ones that become most heated.
I cannot say that Blizzard will never make D3 an MMORPG. I do believe though that no MMORPG of today has the needed technology to justify the game speed of Diablo. This is an assumption from what I've heard, but apparently WoW is quite fast-paced for an MMORPG. If that is true, then I think we would first of all see a quite big evolution of Internet connections and servers before the possibility comes into play.
Even if the above statement is false though, I have serious doubts as to whether Blizzard wants to actually handle two MMORPG's a the same time. Their huge success with WoW will in that case inevitably draw futher millions into the Diablo Universe.
And third, byt launching a new MMORPG, they will effectively begin competing with themselves.
Therefore, no, it will still be the traditional Singe/Multiplayer
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

yes the potential for a diablo based MMORPG is very high, still so is the the chances of continuing with an already proven formula a Diablo RPG.
yes two MMORPGs does seem like a lot of work for one company.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Personally, I would love a Diablo MMO, if it was executed and constructed in the right way.
Introducing two sides into the conflict, Heaven and Hell, open up for player conflicts. And human opponents will always be more fun to face off compared to scripted AI. But the core of Diablo is the hack'n'slash, the PvE part, and that part should still remain intact and expanded upon, but if the opportunity presents itself, then a heavier multiplayers aspect would be great I believe.

wont be really competition since:
1. people that possibly leave WoW for a possible Diablo MMO would remain in the company (aka the money still flows in).
2. other people that love the diablo universe and dont play WoW would definitely try it out (aka even more customers that pay on a monthly basis).
it should be doable for Blizzard to support 2 MMOGs at the same time, i just dont believe that the next Diablo will be one since Blizzard is quite predictable on their moves. They'll make a Diablo 3 just the way they did Diablo and Diablo 2 but they'll leave it open ended for a possible MMO. After a few years (and when WoW starts getting old) they'll launch a new one to keep their customers in the company.
Cant say it will (or when it will) happen, but it would make sense to me if they did that.
No, they will begin competing with theselves. People playing WoW may switch, and the same amount of money will flow in for double maintenance costs. Double servers, staff and development costs. That is why they will wait.

the only thing i fear is if blizzard decides to be a dick and start charging for d3 like WoW i poured like 200 dollars on an accnt in WoW and all it did was kill me a little bit inside
