You think Blizzard isn't making money off of WoW anymore? You think that 9 million people mean no profits? Zogar, its a subscription game. They want you to subscribe for as long as possible. Hell, If the game only had 400,000 people, it would still make millions a month Thats why they are making 1 expansion a year. Thats why in 3 years, Blizzard will still support WoW. Blizzard will not let it die.
I never said they'd stop supporting WoW (there will probably be expansions 5 years from now), but unless there are new customers, they're going to be looking for a replacement cash cow. That's how business works. You're not making a profit if you're just breaking even all the time, or slowly losing people. Again, WoW may have reached that peak already.

Take a look at Sony with EQ. SOE thought that they could make EQ2 and not corrupt their market. They even waited 5 years in between releases. Yet, even with those 5 years, they still corrupted their market and didn't make any profit. Users that wanted to just switched over to EQ2, but the majority just kept playing EQ. EQ, to this day, still has 300k people.
I'd chalk that up to EQ2 being a rather sucky game, and having a lot of problems when it debuted, not to mention the fact that WoW steamrolled them as competition.

So you're saying Zogar, that in 6 years inbetween releases, Blizzard will not corrupt their market with a Diablo MMO.
Zogar, 6 years is nothing. Plus, as I have stated, Blizzard is making 1 expansion a year, keeping players, and enticing older players to come back. They are supporting WoW, and they will support it even more, by not corrupting their market, and waiting atleast 8 to 10 years until they create another Fantasy MMORPG.
They're making a new MMO as we speak! That's a fact. It's probably going to come out within the next 2-4 years, not 8-10!

However Zogar, in 8 to 10 years from WoW's release, they arn't going back to a fantasy MMO. No, they are going to release a Starcraft MMO. Blizzard will pull the same thing as they did with Warcraft III, and WoW. Introduce players with a vast strategy game, getting them into (or back into) the universe, then when the time is right, they will release a MMO in that universe. Don't expect it to come out as fast as WoW did from War3. Blizzard will take their time, and ensure that they will not have 2 conflicting MMO's going on at the same time.
How do you know they're making a Starcraft MMO? Where's the evidence? I provided a lot of circumstancial evidence for a Diablo MMO, but I seen none for an MMO in any other Blizz game universe.

By the time of Starcraft's MMOs release, only the hardcore WoW players will remain, and all the others that have played WoW in the past and have quit, will subscribe to Starcraft MMO.
Uh, no, they won't. They're going to want a fantasy MMO to fulfill the gap in their gaming habits. A Starcraft MMO would appeal to a completely different group of fans.

Diablo has always been Blizzards side game. Blizzard is Starcraft and Warcraft. Blizzard North is Diablo. But Blizzard North is no more. So the OG Blizzard guys are trying to continue what Blizzard North did, and continue to satisfy that niche/fan base.
I don't know what you're talking about there. The Diablo franchise is HUGE, and has a very loyal following. The first two were probably the most successful games for Blizzard during that time period, and there's no doubt a new Diablo game will the biggest thing for its time period as well!

Blizzard will make D3. And then, maybe 10 years from then, they might come back with a Diablo MMO. But for now, they need Diablo 3. They do not need a Diablo MMO.
What makes you so sure? Blizzard will want to capitalize on the current trends in PC gaming, and a stand alone action RPG won't cut it in today's market. I think Blizz realizes that a new Diablo game not only has to continue the legacy of the past games, but has to blow away all other RPGs on the market, including their own: World of Warcraft. The only way this can be done from a technical, depth, and gameplay point of view is for the next Diablo game to be a next generation MMO.
I know you don't like WoW (why is beyond me seeing as how it is so similar to Diablo II), or MMOs, but that's the future of computer RPG gaming. It's time to start putting a little change aside for that monthly fee, that's all.
Firstly you could argue that the fantasy MMO market is getting saturated; there are dozens of new ones opening and for Blizzard to release a new one seems like a waste when they could break new ground with a whole new type.
Also Starcraft possibly translates very well to an MMO. They spent years making ghost and it is quite possible it will form the basis for a new MMO with numerous classes from the protoss, terran and possibly zerg to play.
Diablo is an RPG and it seems more than logical to me that they will use the Battle.net2 system since they are spending considerable resources expanding and improving it. Why waste so many resources if you are going to trim down your game offerings on it.
Zogar, it seems like you don't understand business. How is Blizzard breaking even? Even if they only had 400k subscribers to WoW?
Zogar, if EQ2 wasn't released at all, Sony would have more EQ1 subscribers today than they actually do. When people saw that SOE was making EQ2, the EQ1 players felt like SOE was shafting them, and focusing all their energy on EQ2, instead of supporting and rennovating EQ to compete with up and coming MMOs like WoW. Sony screwed themselves. If they focused all their effort on EQ1, they would still have atleast 1 million subscribers to date.
Yes Zogar, they are DESIGNING a new MMO as we speak. And it is not going to come out until atleast 2012.
It will be a Starcraft MMO, they are going to pull the same thing that War3 did with WoW. It will not be a Diablo MMO, because they are making Diablo III, and they do not want another fantasy MMO. Within the past years, more signs point to D3 development than anything else. This MMO team being created is not Team 3. Team 3 is already established.
Diablo is in the shadows of Warcraft and Starcraft. It always has been, and it is too bad. Diablo fans are looked at as the rebels in the blizzard community.
Zogar, you are obviously an MMO player, who likes to pay to play, and likes auto attack. You have played EQ, and now you play WoW. You dismiss action RPGs now, because the classic business model is going out of style, and it seems like you accept that, and are fine with it. You even said that WoW and Diablo 2 are the same. This is completely untrue. You REALLY should read some of the posts in this thread by me. I detailed the reasons why I do not like World of Warcraft.
i think it might be a good thing as long as they dont make everything like WoW (like the character maker and the quest log and most importantly the gameplay

No matter how far you've come in life, every step you take can decide your fate, and if your future is bad, only you can change it, for even if a step to the left instead of a step to the right can make your day better, then I'd say that's the best step to take.
I agree there are some fundamental parts that create Diablo. Like the camera position. the 2 - x (where x < 20) number of players, the hack and smash, the fast storyline. If they make D3 just another MMO like wow that will be the end of the franchise.
It will affect the game in a negative matter. If he needs to have an idea done, instead of thinking of a new one, he will most likely just take one from WoW.

You guys are horrible... He's a video game dev, not a complete moron... He knows not to bring in WoW to Diablo, too much at least... Just trust in Blizzard until the beta... Then start bitching...
I will agree.. when I first saw the gameplay I felt so sad seeing it so colorful.. until I watched it over, and over, and over - everything looks amazing now in the high definition gameplay video.. and im sure if the fans want it darker, they will polish the graphics and will darken the color pallet a bit
People have to recognise that a lot of the ideas used in WoW have been taken from Diablo 2 anyway. They have just refined it. Not all of the ideas in WoW are bad.
I think that could be a bad thing because, the reason I don't like wow is that it's too slow paced and the items are nearly as fun as the Diablo 2 one. (I like using runewords and make builds around them. EG: The dream using telecharger with conviction)

Shere Khaan seems to understand...
Except for the part about auto attack!
Hahah, yes. We will agree to disagree on that... for now anyway....
To the pool please.
EDIT
Now it's "If the Lead Designer of Diablo 3 is a WoW Lover..."
Your pool fail. You could also rename it "If diablo 3 is an exact copy of WoW"
Me = Anti-WoW
We are lucky, it's not like WoW.
Cool, you fail to read the lore and to understand it.
