It's a choice. You don't have to respec. You don't have to play HC. Just let people who do want to use it have that option. Not everyone likes to replay the game 300 times because apparently, skills in D2 are so imbalanced that 50% of them are absolutely useless. If they balance the skill I don't need respecing but if they don't, which they probably wouldn't, I don't want to replay the same exact thing 300 times.
If there was going to be respec HC is the only place I wouldn't want it to be. That REALLY takes all the effort out of the game if it was put into HC.
Your proposition: Make all diablo players play the game the way you want it, e.g., replay it 300 times, or (like I'd do), play it a few times and go play something else and wait for cookie cutter builds.
My proposition: Give people a choice to play the game the way they want to play it: with respec or without, hardcore or not hardcore, or maybe even make hardcore without respecing.

Omg here we go again this is my last post responding to you.
What does it have to do with what you said? You said "You don't have to play HC." implying that if I don't like respec I don't have to play hardcore.
And by your proposition your saying you want people to play the game the way you want by giving them the choice of respec. What about people who don't want respec your alienating them. Sure they don't have to do it if they don't want to but then thats giving a unfair advanate to people that respec.
Yea listen to the guy above me he has the right idea.
Wouldnt you agree that having more than one char for each "profession" then is destroyed?
No. When I make a character, I stick to it, and I want there to be a feel with him(her). So if he's a poison necro he either stays a poison necro or I go make something else. But, the thing is, I never repeat the same build unless I died, e.g., if a poison necro didn't work out I go make a bone necro, not improve the poison necro, because that's boring.
How people use respec is their issue.

Damn those fucking creatures are fire immune... ah well I can always respec to complete frost and then respec again when im finished with them.
Or you can solve the problem differently.
Quote from "Zarwo" »
So no need for parties either.
SP shouldn't have any parties. In fact, it can't... so putting fire immune monsters into solo is very lame. Multiplayer may disable this option.

I just think it would degrade the difficulty of the game to have respec.
Maybe some people would like the game easier. Leave that choice to them. That's why there are difficulty levels which Diablo II never had.
I think respeccing ruins the uniqueness of a character. It's no fun to build a character up a certain way, and then break them down, and build them up entirely different. Makes it seem like a character can do anything then.
Think about it for PvP. Characters will be respeccing to defeat you in like 2 hits and you can't stop it. It's ridiculous.
Respeccing would be limited, naturally. You would not be able to do it anytime you wished. That'd be insane.

The majority of Diablo buyers will not play it over and over again. They'll go to websites and read on the cookie cutter build. I don't see how it is any better than respecing.
Exacly, like I have. I never tried out a build in regular D2, because you know what? It'd be a waste of time for me, so I just went online and saw what other people had already done, and took what worked best.
As soon as I got Plugy though (which lets you reset skill points in D2, among other things) I started experimenting. Why? Because I can now safely screw up all I like, and it doesn't matter.
Did the game get more boring? No.
Did I only make one character of every class? Hell no, I think I've gone through at least 10 paladins since I started playing with resetting skills.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

You assumed that it implied that when it didn't. I compared HC with respecing because HC is a choice, and respecing is a choice. Assume the game was hardcore for everyone, whether they want it or not. Would that many people play DII? I doubt it.

What advantage? Are they going to PvP? Diablo wasn't really designed for PvP, and if Blizzard will chose to make D3 a PvP game, they will make modifications for multiplayer accordingly.
One of the biggest parts of diablo is finding a character build that works. I feel respec will ruin this. Ok ok ok i know I don't have to respec if I don't want to but if other people are doing it, it ruins the feel of the game.

How does respec ruin this? I think it complements it. You try out a build, and if it doesn't work, you can try tweaking it. Say respec costs gold. Say your build kicks ass in normal difficulty, but sucks in hell difficulty. You wait 'till you've farmed up enough gold, in normal, then you try out another skill build.

I really don't remember Blizzard ever saying that's one of the biggest parts of Diablo. Diablo I didn't have that at all, and I think Diablo I was a great game. Are you saying Diablo I sucked?
Last time I read up on Blizzard's website, they said Diablo is a fast paced action game that's fun and easy to play. Replaying the same thing with lousy characters until you get the right build is the direct opposite for that. I don't know a lot of people who like that, besides those who still play it online.

You are strange if something that other people do ruins the feel of the game for you. I don't care what anyone does.

As much as I like the idea of respecs, I don't think it follows the diablo tradition and is going to imbalance the game in a way. So I vote no to repecs.

Makes it to easy with respec. I'll be able to try out every build possible within a week (Just pulling number out of my ass) however if there is no respec it takes much longer. Guess I'm just a old fart who has patience and likes to have some kind of difficulty to the game.

I guess you are just a guy with no patience who is not able to ignore an option if it's there. If you like playing the same maps 300 times over with the same kind of char jeez do it. I don't love the game that much... Neither do most casuals. And that's who the game is for: casual players who want to relax. Not fanatics who will grind the game.

That's a good point. Everyone who felt Diablo lacked skill reallocation have long since stopped playing, or started with mods. Which means that almost all of you who stil play wil be sitting in the opposite camp.
Come release day, I think a lot of potential customers will get pissed if they find out they have to do their character building the hard way. Most players, like me, probably don't think it's essential for Diablo in any way.
I'd like to get the opinion from some of our Eastern Sun players here at Diablofans. How do you feel about respecs?

Blah. As stated, Diablo 1 didn't have it, and one game cannot establish a tradition.

When has blizzard stated the game is just for casual players?
Oh come on, how many misclicks do you actually have?
If you have muscle spasms don't play clicking games
I'm against respecing by the way.
Dude, I'm old now so I have frequent involuntary twitches.
But, to clarify, I meant like a 30 second undo after selecting it, not ongoing respec, i am against that. No respec is part of discovering character builds imo trying to get that perfect build.
When has blizzard stated the game is just for casual players?
From Diablo3.com:
"Diablo III will be a fitting sequel to Diablo II, with the easy interface, fast-paced action, and visceral gameplay that Diablo players have come to expect and enjoy."
Also, if you watch the gameplay trailer, they keep emphacizing how they made everything easier for players, and made it so that people can play the game with just the mouse. Diablo II is nearly impossible to play the game with just the mouse with most chars, I usually have 5 skills and switch between them...
When someone tries to make something easier and more understandable it means they are making it so a wider population can play it. Wider population is casual population. They are not trying to make SC2 playable with just mouse, are they.

Um, what's your point? You are a fan. You are very far away from Blizzard's target auditory.

You assumed I meant play the game Diablo 2 with I didn't mean that I meant the game of arguing back and fourth. And just because they are making a certain aspect of the game easier does NOT mean that it is only for casual players. Ask blizzard if Diablo is meant mainly for casual players and they will laugh at you. If diablo is meant for casual players then there would be no HC mode aye?
A) on a point by point basis, but expensive so you cant easily "overhaul" your character
a rare item drop that removes 1 point which you can reallocate (maybe special boss ones that do 2, maybe.)
C) maybe both
Basically I want there to be a way to move some points around to fix minor build errors, but to make it difficult to entirely overhaul a character, so if you want two different kinds of barbarian, they will need to be two seperate characters. However, if you only want to move a couple missallocated points, it can be done so simply
I think they should have it, I don't care whether it's limited or not. I don't really feel too strongly about it, it would be cool to have but it isn't very important.
