Diablo 2 does have flaws in it's code which allows duping... you don't need the exploiting programs to prove it. The map system in the game is also flawed, which is why you can maphack. But in a design where the information is stored server-side, you are only shown the information that your character is supposed to know about (diablo 3).
Bots/farmers, obviously can't be done much about, but those aren't hacks really, just exploitation of the system.
Using battle net will prevent duping and maphacking. While it's not much of an issue on LANs really (since it's usually friends playing), LANs are not protected from that.
assuming of course they can keep from making flawed code again =\
Isn't this how games go wrong? Blizzard never trys to make their games come out faster for that reason: rush = flaws.

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
and yet they took their time with Diablo 2 and StarCraft and we're at version 1.15 for SC and version 1.12 for D2 with more errors that still haven't been fixed in D2 that have existed since day 1.
There's going to be stuff that'll slip through. You can't test for everything but I assure you, not having to do LAN code will eliminate a nice amount of time out of their schedual that they'll probably fill with more B.net testing and coding. And who said they were going to rush anything through. All eliminating LAN does is it eliminates the time that would have been spent working on LAN functionality
i am MAD too, its just stupid! even if Battle.net will remain Free, its stupid cause you have to have Internet Connection, that costs MONEY! to play a game with a friend of your who is in the next Room!!!!!???
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
just unacceptable Blizzard! hope you get your minds Together cause i see a new Petition Comming allready !!!
If you read even half the posts here, you would have found many folks who
use LAN, including my friends and me, you insensitive clod.
I agree that "No LAN" ≠ "Pay-to-Play". But, it could be considered realisticly
a sign that Blizzard wants all multi-players to access Battlenet. Because of
that, it's not that unimaginable to take the next step; profit from said action.

Well, I don't see how they'd profit too very much when people stop playing and they lose fans because of fees.
From a company who likes pleasing fans when they can, I don't see why they'd put in an arbitrary fee for something that's always been free.
Why are there morons that say, " If they charge monthly for ( ), I'll pay for it ". There is absolutely nothing that should be stapled with a monthly fee in a game like Diablo 3. The only reasons they would drop LAN, 1. Open Battle.net, other resources available 2. Piracy, and If there was no Closed Battle.net I'd also say it was removed as means to protect against hacking your character in several ways, but there is closed battle.net, so that shouldn't be a problem.
It's people that are willing to pay for things they shouldn't be paying for that promote developers to staple the incoherent monthly fees. Hellgate:London is an example of a Monthly Subscription Fee gone to the garbage disposal, it never worked from day one ( for those that played it probably know how things were, especially news on the forums ), now it's all just a big black murky mess on pause.
Yeah Blizzard is rich, but it doesn't help how well a game sells, so decisions are important. Obviously, they aren't charging monthly for anything, they should just let the fan base know so people quit making pay2play threads.
So as far as I know, and from the things said in this thread and title, we strongly believe there is a Pay2Play because there is no Lan?
I think we are missing out the fact that D3 is going to run on a new connection system that has yet to be released and tried out yet. Blizzard obviously wants to encourage the use of this new B.Net, which obviously will be better than the last and will have a better protection system. Not to mention, they can also remove as much piracy as possible.
To be honest, I don't think Blizzard is stupid enough to make a P2P on a HackNSlash game, but I also don't think they're stupid enough to disappoint a large number of their fan base. So, my bet is that B.Net 2.0 has new types of connection system, or something with a new name which is similar to Lan except requires internet connection.

8/1 DSL in here cost 39euros / month ... and thats quite high compared to some other countries.
RIP: Demon Hunter: lvl 50 | Barb: lvl 60 (plvl 5) | Monk: lvl12 & lvl70 (plvl 200)
And I fail to see how no LAN implies pay to play.
I Agree! as i wrote here aswell:

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

Over confidence is the rot.
Yeah D2 was a cool icebreaker when your keyboard's W, S, A, D's are crying for a break..
Sometimes the break goes longer coz of the dueling and the trash talking going around.. Ever had a PVP tourney on D2? It was fun as hell!
