I actually suggested this very same thing to LoTRO when I was in their closed beta mostly cause a lot of the items classes were wearing were from quests and everyone looked almost identical. I suggested the look of the same type of armor should be varied and randomized so everyone didn't all look like clones. In the end they changed the colors.. but it all looked the same still =\ I'd like to see d3 do this..
I think is a good idea. I could totally picture myself getting gear that looks like shit and then owning people, they will be like "WTF, how did that noob kick my ass with that shitty gear"
Don't judge a book by its cover.
you could pull this off with the 'surperior' type items. have them shine more.
in d2 the rares sometimes had colour on them and it looked ridiculous half the time. i dont want a big purple helm. just like i dont want my horns to be broken or skewed.
yeah....wearking a levi on your zealer maed you all green LOL looked pretty dumb to me :P......tho i liked tals making you all purple
The same items worn by 2 different people should always look the same.
Sure, there can be tons of different looks for all those random items... but they never have the same stats. The only reason one should have noticable difference in its look is if its an old, scratched item, etc. Since those crap items are just that... crap, and thats if they are even included in the game, then no uses them, and no need for new look just for useless items, right?
Durability? Sure, it would be nice, I actually agree completely with that: Lower durability, and the item looks more damaged, etc... However, I heard that Durability is not in the game. Hopefully, it will be, though not as annoying as in Diablo 2 - just a fee to maintain your items.
All this is still just for look though, and it does little. There are good details to be added, but don't expect that kind of things to get priority, if they ever consider doing something like that.
I like the idea but I think it needs a bit of work. I'll stick with the greathelm example. While the broken horns would be a neat addition on lower quality stuff, I think the differences among good stuff should be more like maybe having the horns curve differently, having a different number of horns or slightly different colored horns/tips.
I think unique items should stay as a set appearance though while rares should have all the variety worked in.
As a side note, I'd like to see rares be potentially better than uniques as they seemed to be early on in Diablo 2.
Ok, one more side note. Shouldn't the terms for rare and unique items be switched? I mean what's so unique about the third Nagelring ring I've found? Isn't my "rare" Shadow Spawn feral axe much more unique considering it really is one of a kind?
