Ok, so i saw a artisan video this morning and decided i could waste 4 minutes of my time. As he talks about the artisan and what features he offers he keeps the screen on the shop button.
now at this time i had a peculiar thought.
as in diablo 2 the vendors had items. but really after about the 3-5 quest in act 1 i never really had a need to use the shopping of the vendors.
So, do you think blizzard will have a shop that as you lvl up and require higher level items, the shops will have to up demand and provide them? even though most of the items you will most likely find will be on your hunt of the evil in the world of sanctuary?
also, I think this could be an interesting twiiter post if someone would like to do that.
Well I think they said that you have to level the caravan up and as they do they make better stuff. I suppose if you never bother with them they will have crap every time you come into town.
I remember awhile back I think it was blizzcon 08, someone asked about vendors and how they were useless. Jay responded that they were really a last resort for players who just never got a good drop fora particular item. This was all they were really meant for. He also said that a very similar system would be in D3. The thing I nver got was why they sold normal level stuff in Hell. Why not get rid of the trash and just up the prices of some good gear that you could actually use.

I liked the vendor system in the Champions: Baldurs Gate games in Ps2, where you actually had a chance to find a pretty decent item in most item classes every now and then. Of course those exceptional items were pretty costy, meaning you had to save for it through a few trips to town.
I guess it's a little comparable to the D1 vendor system.. The D2 system just sucked balls, the only thing they were good for was to replace your shitty item with a slightly less shitty item.
The vendor system works like this. As you progress through the game you find "recipes" These recipes might contain low level items or high level items, and you give them to your artisan and they learn how to make the item. Then you gather the materials for the item and make it through the artisan. This makes it so that as you progress you get gear up to and beyond your level so you can get good gear by buying from your artisan as well as drops from runs. Also i remember it being stated that some really good high end items are int he form of recipes which you'll have to work to find then work to find the ingredients needed.
