it seems as if everyone who is watching stalking and waiting for diablo seem to only talk about gameplay features what about what really makes diablo? lobby based games? for one i am SOO excited to see how they will make the lobby menu will there be categorys for gameplay quests pvp fun etc? will every single game be shown? is there a search option? how sexy would it look? what channel features will there be? how many players in channels? can u connect channels to other blizzard games? all these questions pop up in my head! heck the auction house option might be right beside the lobby search we dont know.. that would be awsome what do you guys think is there any confirmation or anything at any blizzcons or anything ive missed? i feel like they will show all of this on the media release.
thanks feel free to give your opinions

I'm actually very excited about those things as well. seems the bnet features and out of game ui stuff will be some of the last to be shown off just due to the development process. I'm super curious about the auction house as well, maybe there will be an ingame one as well as in the bnet menus. I dont think it will just be outside the game due to the fact u have to leave ur game just to sell something, but possibly in-game and out. Also will player models be showing around chat rooms like d2 was? Looking at SC2's method they have premade icons you unlock. Maybe something similar if they dont go the player model route.
I think some of this stuff as well as maybe more info on the bosses will be shown off at the event.
interesting thought but yeah that would be awsome also the character screen selection personaly i liked diablo 2 originals character screenn selection alot better then LOD u got to see ur character over the camp fire i thought it was pretty cool, yeah i forgot about ur characters showing in channels that should be a definetly since they did in diablo2 maybe they will make like a full trade room or somthing there will be a tab in the games lobby being like [trade] and the rooms can hold alot of people like 20 or somthing and you can open a store in liek a small town and people can enter and check out the stores maybe? that would be pretty cool but still i think diablo 2 should remain player to player trading no systems
I share the excitement on this topic :D. The lobby UI is something that hasn't been discussed yet officially, and likely won't be finalized until the end of the Beta. Even if they have it set and ready, I'd bet it will go through some changes as anything can during the Beta.
As for features, I expect leaps and bounds over what D2 offered. Looking back in all honesty, D2's lobby setup was such crap that any improvement in categorization is welcome. Hopefully whatever trading system the team has come up with will eliminate the need to create games to try and sell your items, or find a certain item for that matter. Besides trading, I'd like to be able to tag my lobby under a certain category, both via key words, and a set list of tags to choose from. I'd bet there is a better way to do this other than tags, hopefully the team has found it. A filter would also be much appreciated also, so even if I don't know what I'm looking for exactly, I can narrow down my search for a game type by at least filtering the ones I know aren't what I need.
~Also on a side note, something I just thought of could be pretty cool; you know how in D2 you'd see the occasional colored lobby name? What if that was achievable through gameplay. Think CoD, when you reach 14th prestige or w/e you can color your clan tag. I'd find it really cool if after achieving some very large goal, you can color your lobby name, or custimize it in some other way.

I agree with everything you just said i think a filter is needed for sure lol in diablo 2 i keep finding my self pressing create then join over and over again to refresh until i find somthing..lol
personaly i would not like that coloured idea maybe if you can put a little icon instead i think that would be cool for example if ur making a game to kill a boss u can put a little icon of the bosses face thats like the size of an emotion maybe lol kinda like you can do on forums but man im so excited lol

Colors could indeed be a bit tacky, or just not be some people's preferred taste. I'd be satisfied with any customizability of this manner. Anything that lets people know, "Hey, I play this game A LOT and I'm DAMN GOOD at it." works for me :P.

I think it would be nice to have the game lobby categorized by acts if at all possible. This would make it easier for players looking to do quests in specific acts a much easier and quicker way to get in a game without spamming to find someone willing to help out.
I am also very excited to see what D3 has in store for the trading system/lobby. But until beta I guess I'll just have to wait.
I can safely say that the menu/lobby/chatrooms will be incredible and breathtaking at least. It will be at least like SC1 to SC2 is. I wouldn't be surprised if before you enter chatroom or lobby, there will be your characters camp or keep, where s/he sits and reads or polishes his/her swords or something. I can't wait!
I doubt the AH will be accessible out-of-game. There's a shared stash, but most of your items are probably gonna be on specific characters, as will most of your gold.
It would be a little weird to have to specify which character to take the money from, which one's inventory to place the item in, etc. Possible, but unlikely.
Most likely it will be a more typical in-game auctioneer, probably unlocked a few hours into the game like the Artisans. Trading items between characters via the shared stash will be ultra-convenient, so you don't really need the out-of-game option. It'd be almost as fast to just buy shit and switch characters, and less of a hassle.
the matchmaking will only be for pvp arena im sure. id expect a game list with either tabs or buttons to select difficulty. also i would HOPE longer game names lol (that is if its similar to how d2 games are made and displayed)

I think that would be a great aspect to have your character in a camp type area waiting to enter a lobby. Hopefully they will retain the gear that they currently have in game I really cant see why they wouldnt though.
They are giving details of Battle.net features to the people invited to this thing in july so on august 2nd when the NDA is up we'll know exactly what its like.
