With rumors and conspiracies floating around the net, if there is one place that the new Diablo III expansion or Diablo IV gets to be announced, that's going to certainly be GamesCom in August 17.
In 2013, Blizzard announced Reaper of Souls (not at BlizzCon) but at GamesCom. There Blizzard showed the ROS cinematic and some gameplay, and attendees were able to play the Crusader in the demo stations.
Then BlizzCon fleshed out more details about ROS in the panels.
So if there is going to be a new Diablo III expansion or a Diablo IV announcement -- it's going to be at GamesCom.
I just read read some streamers are getting flown to GamesCom. Not sure if that's true.
That mostly happens when Blizzard is preparing to make a game announcement. I was flown to Paris by Blizzard in 2008 for the Diablo III reveal. I was a Diablofans.com writer back then. (brings a tear to my eye) lol
Would it really be a shock if we got a D3 expansion 2 reveal at Gamescom AND a Diablo 4 sneak reveal at Blizzcon?
If we know anything about Blizzard, it takes them 4-5 years to develop a sound product from scratch (which is not actually all that bad). Given this information, IF we were to get a D3 expansion 2 in say March, that would give the expansion a 3.5-4 year life, which is long for an expansion, but I feel all of us would love it if we knew A) we got this new content with a darker setting than anything D3 has provided so far and D4 is within site!
I'm really hoping for anything Diablo revealed at Blizzcon.

Medieval Dragon? I agree any announcement would probably be at Gamescom. I don't see why they would be flying out someone as well known as Quin for no reason. Remember the old days before D3 was even announced? All the rumors, so many rumors ha ha. I remember I sent a scan in of my PCGamer hinting at Diablo 3 in the next issue that year. Good times.
I've heard mention of other streamers, but no one as far as I know has ever said anyone but Quin. Any idea whom else? That link you posted gives me a 404.
My two cents, they are already done with the expansion, that is why so many have left including Leonard. Diablo 3 will be all wrapped up. In my opinion the new game director position is for the next installment. I have a feeling expansion announced at Gamescom, announcement of working on Diablo 4 or maybe even cinematics at Blizzcon.

You'r probably right on the money about a d3 expansion being revealed @ gamescom followed by d4 @ blizzcon. I just hope we won't have to wait to long for the new diablo content.
Quin was invited to a Blizzcon event to stream when they only released a patch.
btw, for me its extremly unsual that Blizz reveal something outside of Blizzcon. Did they ever do that before?
I mean thats what i have observed. so far they have announced everything on Blizzcon
Reaper of Souls was announced at Gamescom...
They flew popular streamers out to Blizzcon for the major 2.4 patch for sure, but even if there were no patch they would probably still fly streamers out since it is a Blizzard event.
The difference is Blizzard are flying Quin out and its Gamescom, a conference that is not dedicated to Blizzard thus it must be a reason more than just playing the game or streaming from there, Quin must be showing something off...
"Must" is a very strong word.
I wouldn't be so sure about anything and i definitely wouldn't set my hopes up for anything Diablo related. Have you not seen the past couple of Blizzcons? how can you even be remotely excited? I wouldn't be surprised at all if they completely shit on the diablo franchise once again.

I highly doubt they would announce an expansion at Gamescon, then the next game a couple months later. If they did that, the announcement of the next game would take all the attention away from a D3 expansion, and that is something Blizzard is notorious for NOT doing. The warcraft3 to WoW announcement someone else mentioned is a different case; those were two completely different style games.
if it is anything major my guess is an expansion, not D4.

I'm with those that think at least something special will be announced/displayed for them to have decided to fly Quin out. He himself stated in a video that they told him something that he just couldn't pass up on so my guess is it is more than just having him do some streaming from there, especially when it isn't a Blizzard event...
1-it is anniversary for diablo.
2-if we are to see a new diablo game, it will have a big announcement event like evey other diablo games had before. they need big hype for the big game.
3-its been quite a long time since diablo occupied a big stage.
4-d3 is hard to fix from this point. RoS did a good job at turning a shit-tier game to an enjoyable game, but i think this is all they can do at this point. main material has unchangeable flaws, so it doesnt have any big undiscovered potential left in it to make a second expension from it. it doesnt have that much of a rich content to allow big kinds of upgrades. besides, d3 damaged blizzards reputation really bad with its false advertising(such as promise of PvP) so all those together leads one logical thing: blizzard will not waste any more time on d3, and try to make a clean start with a next diablo game, aiming to be "excellent" from the very beginning.
my conclusion: it will be a brand new diablo game, and it will be announced only at blizzcon, with a very big event to celebrate it.
Can people please stop saying things like "D3 is hard to fix at this point" especially when you make it clear you have no technical background in any of the required criteria for making a game.
Did anyone else pick up on this? At gamescom they will be having diablo 2 speedruns on wednesday and thursday. My guess is that they will be showcasing a d2 remake! You can see the diablo events on the blizzard gamescom page: https://gamescom.blizzard.com/en-gb/ go check it out
That early? You will be disappointed if you are attending gamescom just for diablo. We won't get more than a patch announcement with the next items and sets rework, if anything.

except they would never fly in quin69 for a patch
Right now it says there flying him out for season 7 stuff which is a complete cover up after the video he posted and had to take down *In the vid he said he was being taken to gamescom on blizzards money* this all but confirms a second expansion ,and i also do think a D2 remaster could happen as well just because of the number of people that still play it.

Who is already attending GamesCom?
Well, I did say "who is already attending GamesCom?" GamesCom tickets are mostly sold out.

It could be a Diablo III expansion. Starcraft II got 2 expansions.
I'm hoping for a reveal of old blizzard games being ported/remade for new OSs and battle.net app. Blizzard already hinted at remaking their old games to be in HD(can you say D2 HD remake). No one knows atm but it would be awesome would it not?: http://news.softpedia.com/news/blizzard-is-making-hd-remakes-for-starcraft-warcraft-iii-and-diablo-ii-495743.shtml
