Yeah, I watched that run live and also commented on it on Reddit already, but also gonna leave my 0.02$ here - especially since it's on the frontpage now.
Great stuff. It's been known for quite a few seasons now - Reddit user "HerpDerpenberg" made a leveling guide about this method in more general terms - but as usual it takes someone to actually showcase this. I know many people who have been testing this for weeks now.
Just a thing to keep in mind:
This method requires to reset games; maybe only every 5-10 minutes, but if a very large number of persons does this, there is a realistic chance that the servers go ham on season start. I've had a discussion with Desolacer about this and he said it should not be the case, but I personally have a plan B just in case queues show up, because nothing is worse than sitting in menus on season start for 10 minutes. Also keep in mind that he's playing HC and the server stress there is much lower, but on SC I expect many people (especially solo players) to do this and the servers might go nuts in the first hour of the season or so. Basically, I strongly recommend against running *only* FoM (there are many more areas that work well if you practice a bit, and it also spices it up a bit as pure FoM makes it super boring) or just go rifts in case, which is also great for gear (which you will definitely lack by doing nothing but FoM).
Also, as in previous Reddit threads around this methods, I'd like to remind that for groups rifting is probably just as good as the streaks are difficult to maintain in groups. A full group that tries this without practicing will be better off rifting at season start.
But yes, in general this is something that can really spice up things. But it needs practice, you cannot just do this on season start and expect to be faster than in your regular rifting group (you'll most likely be slower and might be at a disadvantage in terms of resources compared to rifting).
I don't really see the point in the guides for 1-70 really.
Most people will get boosted by friends/clanmates immidiately.
I will just wait a couple of days and do the same.
In that case, may I ask why you are even playing season? The only reason to play season (as opposed to non-season) is to have a fresh start, do the level-up and gear up process, and maybe battle for some conquest spots or first weekend leaderboards. Usually at around Saturday evening we're fully geared and back at GR80+, so there's no difference between season and non-season anymore, so I don't see the reason of being powerleveled then (when conquests are claimed and top leaderboards are out of reach).
And of course not mentioning the irony in your post - if everyone had your attitude, millions of people would login on Sunday asking for powerlevel and find out that no one cared to level 1-70. The point for 1-70 guides is that if no one does 1-70 then no one can powerlevel you.
Playing season to get stash tab of cause. I don't care about "fresh start", conquests, cosmetics, rushing for leaderboards. etc..
1-70 solo is complete waste of time in this game, unless you are some crazy egocentric solo elitist of some kind, or just have free time to dump. There's no reason nor any special reward for it. Just three hours of time wasted into pointless turtle-speed levelling.
I must say i absolutely don't like powerlevelling in this game. It should not work like this. But since it exists, and it's not an exploit or a bug, i don't see a point why i am not supposed to ask my clanmates of friends to boost me. And when i get boosted i also do the same for other people.
I think this is impressive (for me it usually takes a lot longer):

Season 7 1-70 in 1 hour and 35 mins (check time in top right (GMT))
This also included most boss kills towards season journey and obtaining the cube along the way AND it was done in a 3 player group.
