I suggest you quit listening to Hardcore altogether and get into a more artistic, talent demanding genre. Don't get me wrong, if you're an angry teenager who needs to express himself through a troubled-looking idiotic vocalist of a near talentless band, then be my guest; that's merely my suggestion.
You obviously don't know what your talking about, You probably still think that BTBAM Is hardcore, If it weren't for old school hardcore like Dystopia and Bad Brains, Metal as we know wouldnt be the same, So I suggest you stop with your ignorance and educate yourself to real hardcore.
Hardcore is a genre I have merely scratched the surface of,
Some of the bands I already like include:
Minor Threat
Agnostic Front
Sick On The Bus
Slapshot
Bad Acid Trip
Any suggestions?
I'm a lot older than you so I didn't know any of these bands by name and had to YouTube them all to hear samples. What you know as Hardcore has it's origins in Punk Rock, you may want to look at some of the old school to see where these bands got their influences.
A number that come to mind:
7 Seconds
Bad Brains (you already mentioned)
Black Flag
Buzzcocks
Charged GBH
Circle Jerks
Cramps
Damned
Dead Kennedy's
Descendents
Elvis Hitler
G.G. Allin
Johnny Thunders
MDC - MOD - SOD - FOD
Misfits
Peter & The Test Tube Babies
Plasmatics (Wendy O?Williams was a freak)
Ramones
Samhain
Sex Pistols
Social Distortion
Sub Humans
The Accussed
The Clash
The Dead Milkmen
The Exploited
The Runaways
The Undead
Undertones
Verbal Abuse
I used to like hardcore/punk music. But I guess I went through a musical catharsis, or perhaps I just realized how retarded the music was and now focus more on obscure techno/industrial music that pushes the boundaries of what we call music instead of staying confined in the play-pen. Don't get me wrong, if you like it, go for it. But there will come a time when you go "this sucks, every band plays the same strings and ever other line is 'hate government'".
You obviously don't know what your talking about, You probably still think that BTBAM Is hardcore, If it weren't for old school hardcore like Dystopia and Bad Brains, Metal as we know wouldnt be the same, So I suggest you stop with your ignorance and educate yourself to real hardcore.
Metal didn't originate from Hardcore. It originated from bands like The Misfits, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Killing Joke. Hardcore had nothing to do with any of it. Actually, since you like to think that you're the "educated" one, and I'm the "ignorant" one, I'll hit you with some knowledge. Motorhead formed in 1975..Hardcore in the 70's, Iron Maiden in the 60's. Now if you're going to tell me that Iron Maiden influenced Hardcore, which then influenced Heavy Metal, of which the derivative is Thrash, the genre that bands like Sodom, Kreator, and Destruction influenced the Black Metal genre from, also leading to the heavier faster genre Death Metal, then you're musically challenged. All that Hardcore influnced is Core music, which is basically the scorn and hate of all the Metal community. Don't think of what I'm saying as the sole opinion of one person..it's the Metal community's. Metalcore came out of Hardcore. Post-Hardcore. NWBHM had the heaviest influence. Please, try to argue with me in ANYTHING other than music. Dystopia? Dude, they formed in the 90's for fuck's sake (specifically 1990 or 1991 if I'm not wrong, which I'm probably not). Bad Brains form in the 70's, I don't know specifically which year, but I', sure it's before 1979, and after 1975. Pathetic; seriously, the years alone tell you more than I ever can, and I sure hope you're smart enough to realize that you're so wrong, it's ridiculous. If by Metal you meant the silly teenager Metal (which really isn't "Metal" but rather a disgrace to realy Metal music) such as Post-Hardcore and every other Core crap genre, then you might have a point..a very weal, laughable point which makes me twitch in anger, but a point nevertheless. From now on, and to avoid the destruction I have just set upon you, try to read more stuff, and know about shit before you tell another person that you know more about something than he does. If I know about anything, it's music, and Metal music to be exact. How old are you, how long have you been listening to this genre? What, 5, 6, 7 years? Lol, try answering back to I said, I can't wait to ruin you in another argument.
Quote from "Ivaron" »
Man, out of that huge list I know only like 6 bands or so :/
But I wanted to say to Mephisto's Lament that it's really childish to assume effort =/= good music.
What? All current Hardcore does is say "fuck the gornment" and rape a downtuned-as-fuck guitar, while screaming at the top of their lungs and waving their 2 inch gel-infested hair. Effort? Listen to worthy abnds with worthy music. Metalheads think they're "elite" for a good, justified reason. They're different, and not in they way Forrest Gump is different from Einstein. Walk into a club. What kind of music would you hear? R&B, Trance, House, Techno..that stuff. Walk down the street..you see a guy with a cap flipped sideways with baggy pants slipped 5 inches below his dick, and you'd just walk away. You wouldn't hear Mayhem or Morbid Angel in your common club. Walking down the street, seeing a guy wearing ripped jeans, having long fucked up hair, and 10 year old shoes, you'd think "lol, wtf??". It's also because Metalheads themselves think they're smarter than everybody else (while a lot aren't, by the way..but a lot are), pursuing philosphical, political, and critical subjects in the world, and a lot being involved or interested in general subjects like philosphical ways of thinking, and stuff like National Socialism, Capitalism, and stuff like that. Effort? Check Early Megadeth and Metallica Albums. Check the fusion in Arcturus. Check the Symphonic integration in bands like Emperor. Check the Ambience in Shining or Xasthur. Check the intrecate time signatures in almost every Technical band. What would yuo find in Core music? I've already told you. It just so happens that Core music have little to no effort, and the music sucks. THE ENTIRE METAL SCENE HATES CORE MUSIC. I just hope you can figure out why. Few of Metal bands don't pull that much effort, and still manage to be marvelous and inspiring..that conveys a lot of talent as well.
Seriously, go read up and learn about something before you try to discuss it like you know crap about it.
Watch the insults..not once have I flamed you. There is a perfectly good reason. You can choose not to give it the time of day instead of addressing it. Just like any other user, I have the right to express my opinion without personally attacking the other user. He is in turn free to answer back to me..without calling me..say..an idiot?
In an effort to lighten the mood here a bit, Punk was not my most listened to genre but I'm in my 40's so things were very different for me. Today music is far more advertised and accessible than it was in the 80's. In your teens music becomes a part of your identity and so people will vehemently defend their music, as time passes your core music becomes a nostalgic companion, some music you grow out of and of course some people just become old crusty crotches.
Rush was and in many ways still is my favorite band at a time when they were anything but classic rock, although I listen to a lot of the new stuff now too. What was really cool about music in the late 70's and early 80's was the fact you had to really go look for the good stuff. The only place you could find good music was in hole in the wall record shops which were frequently head shops *ahem*, so our parents were not happy with us frequenting these den of iniquities.
Albums would just appear with little to no announcement and when they did their supply was limited and the sense of urgency to buy them was strong because nothing was worse than having to do a special order, that usually took two or three weeks. Because records were linear presses (LP's) then taking care of your music became a science in itself. I'll give you all a good laugh of the hell we went through to achieve music perfection then.
A good turntable was a must; that was $120 bills minimum for a good Techniques turn-table with adjustable feet to ensure the table was perfectly level with the earth's gravity and whatever you do make sure the damn thing is sync'd at exactly at 33 and a 1/2 rpm's; I won't even bother going into all the other equipment amplifiers, equalizers, receivers, etc.
Good turntables didn't come with needles so you had to buy that separately another $100+ for a top quality diamond needle.
Static electricity was your enemy then, you dared not let the LP touch the factory mat on the turn table so you had to get an anti-static mat to lay music on, add another $15 bills OH and by God whatever you do don't touch the records body as you put it on the turn-table.
Leaving music in the original scratchy paper was the kiss of death to your precious music investment, anti-static paper was a must, almost a $1 a sheet for that stuff.
You would think this would be enough but no, you still had to clean your music before playing it to remove any evil spirits that might be left within the grooves of your LP. Must purge all static demons! Nothing sucks worse than getting disrupted with a static crack/pop while enjoying your favorite riff, the horror of it all.
Thank the heavens for a D4 cleaning kit at $30 bills
Are we ready to play music yet? HELL NO! You must fire a reverse polarity charge into the damn record first Scotty! Now pull out that Zerostat gun and make it so. Add another $30 bills.
(This is not an endorsement of disco - I shudder)
Can we play music now?!? Yes, yes you can let the turn table ever so slowly auto-drop the needle to the $9.00 record now, and at last enjoy.
I don't see how that had anything to do with what I was saying, and if anything it created quite the eyesore.
LOL! Uh it's started out being a response but then additional cups of coffee made it something else this morning. OK I removed your quote since I couldn't see what it had to do with it either. Eyesore? Well be glad you didn't have to do all that back then. I was trying to get people here to relax a bit, in a round about way but I may have failed, faaaaaaaaaaailed.

No that was just how I listened to music 30 years ago, I started talking about hardcore and how it had it's influences in punk and then I got all memory lane here. My bad.
Thats funny. Just asking, I'm going to be picking up some turntables soon. Probably not classic vinyl though.

More so than various bands of any given genre of music..
But a recent band that has stuck out lately is Five Finger Death Punch of 5FDP!
Give them a listen.. a lot of their songs are really good.
Especially the Acoustic version of "The Bleeding."
