I'm pretty skeptical about New Vegas. And it's not like it's a new game. Despite how much new content there may be, I doubt it will run the length of the original so people shouldn't fool themselves; it IS just an expansion. I still get more enjoyment out of just replaying Fallout 1 and 2 than finishing up what's left of F3. I still haven't finished Mothership Zeta (god, so stupid) or The Pitt. But I'm always willing to fire up Fallout 1 and 2 again.
It's hard to say all that though without sounding like some die hard Fallout fan. But I assure you I'm not. I loved Fallout 3 for the most part and was very open-minded about it. But this New Vegas just seems like an attempt to milk the whole game for just a bit more cash without really adding anything new. It may be a new setting with new monsters and weapons, but it will still have a weak plot, characters that all sound exactly like the same man and woman, and lacking in any real RPG elements.
In Fallout 3, there is one major choice you can make besides the one at the ending. Blow up Megaton or not. That's it. If you blow it up, the consequence is you can no longer go there. And...that's it. Then at the end, you have a choice whether to kill all Super Mutants make Project Purity for everyone. The difference is a slightly different narrative played to a sequence of pictures taken straight from the game. And that's it.
Oh by the way, you guys kind of suck at getting excited for a video game. You don't really offer a lot of talking points for debate.
Well you do have to remember New Vegas is made with the same engine BUT it IS a entirely new game, so they say. It's being made by a different company to my knowledge. Obsidian I think?
They have replaced a lot of the placeholder models I was worried about and added a pretty in depth weapon customization option which looks fun. They revamped the follower system, we have karma again but its fine tuned along side a reputation system similar to Fallout 2's.
It's going to seem damn similar sure that's undeniable and nothing they've really done would be impossible with some mods, but I think they're going to give Fallout 3 a run for it's money. Hopefully the story will be much more engrossing and the location will give a new (yet old) desert feeling to the newer series.
So if you have some gripes with the Fallout 3 team, leave them at the door, as far as I understand this is a 100% different team working on it, they may even make the game BETTER.
Interesting. I guess it would be a sequel in some ways to the way Fallout 2 was to the first one. It's not like they used a new graphic engine or anything. I just really hope they would make it more of an RPG the way it's meant to be. The way Bethesda didn't make it to be.
I doubt I'll be playing it for some time though. My laptop just barely runs Fallout 3 as it is. But I really didn't know a new developer had taken the franchise over. I think that could be a better thing indeed. And your comments are more informative than just telling me how it will supposedly "rape".

When it comes to future games, Bethesda still has the rights, but for some reason Obsidian is making this one. It's weird, but I kind of like it. It could be a neat trend to see how two companies make games with the same engine. Diablo 3 made by Blizzard, Diablo: Binding of the Three made by Bioware, or something like that.
Fresh takes on franchises.
