The basic concept has always been Warrior/Mage. We are going to throw that out the window.
From this you will build your character from scratch. Nothing set from the start except race and gender. These two things will have an impact on how you play, but not much, listen here.
This way we would have a bare character, free to do as he/she pleases, when he/she pleases. The constrict of having a Sorceress is that he(/she :shock:) cannot use swords. No matter how much they want to. This new way you pick what skills you go with as you grow each level, developing infinate classes;
Rangermage - Powers her own arrows just before each shot, doing elemental damage on hitting.
Enchanter - Places enchantments on weapons, increasing their power in melee or ranged for arrows. This costs great amounts of mana and lasts very limited times, but can be used on anybody.
Spell sword - Fires spells out of his sword, then using it at close combat.
Warriormage - Uses buff spells to increase his/her own stats while bringing their enemies down.
Archerfighter - Uses arrows at long distance, finishing the creature off by the time it arrives for Melee with a short sword.
This is an example of split focus classes. Of course you could still focus on JUST archery, JUST attack spells, JUST defence spells, JUST summoning, JUST fighting or what ever you wanted.
This would be effected by clan, race, job, guild, gender and many more things, but this way you could be what ever you want, when ever you want.
Each level you would receive the standard Skill and Attribute points, but now you would also have mastery points. Thus allowing you to grow in effectiveness when using your weapon or style of spell (Defence, Offence, Summoning).
Morrowind? Whats Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind? No idea... Shut up... You're wreaking my train of thought... You should go over there... *Points*..... NO! Over THERE!... The OTHER side of the roa... yes....
i agree with theikos, if we give the gamer the ability to create his/her own character the game will start to feal more like Neverwinter nights or Bauldur's gate or something...diablo is distinctly different in that the game play, character leveling and creation is diablo-esque. So in this case id rather have more pre-defined characters that have more and different skills, rather than follow on a Neverwinter nights/Bauldur's gate type game.
You fucking retarded ass sonofabitch! You seriously think you could cast a fireball at Gheed just because you were a n00b137 enough to gamble in the beginning of the game? Well i got a few words for you: NOT IN TOWN, MOUTHAFUCKA!
I like the idea of hybrid classes, but not when every thing you do is judged and your class is chosen by the game. There should be unique experience gained for using specific attacks or techniques, but the entire game shouldn't revolve around it. That concept ruined my experience with Dungeon Siege II; it was like I was being punished for using the heal spell as a warrior.
My idea is to allow the class to be chosen fromt the start, but allowing it to evolve into more defined focuses. On the 1 - 100 level scale, the class should be able to evolve at certain intervals, such as every 10 or 20 levels.
