Perhaps have an Isometric Diablo-esk view with a first person optional view for those that insist on having it. It might be insteresting to play as a Amazon in first person anyway..
Funny image: First person Bowazon strafing around Diablo (as in running around always facing Diablo, not using the strafe skill) shooting (Insert your favorite kind of arrow here). Hehe...
Arnt nearly all (95%+) RPG/MMORPG made these days 3D with a 3rd person camera? (that may or may not be rotatable)
I dont see why Blizzard would keep the top down 2.5D view with a game released probably in the next decade
Edit- Would I be right to assume that isometric and 2.5D go hand in hand?
if diablo was 1st person, i would acually laugh. It would be like doom or goldeneye where you see the staff or sword and the hand.
after im done laughing i would probably shoot myself tho

Shall I take it your either not a fan of Elder Scrolls/Might and Magic, or you haven't heard of them. Because that is exactly what happens.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Though first person would make the game a lot scarier, i don't think it would work still. And i really did not like the first person in elder scrolls cus it always startled me when i got attacked from behind.

"I'm like a dog chasing cars." - Joker, Dark Knight
The Butcher's lair was scary enough in the isometric viewpoint, I would absolutely shit myself (even more) if I had to do open that door in 1st person.
If you were in 1st person view, you could have a radar-type thing in the upper right corner. Something like in Conquers Bad Fur Day Multiplayer. And able to turn it off or on.
Of course I just want 1st person view for camera view, kinda like in the Zelda series. Then have 1st person shooter as an option for those who want it, and isometric set for default.

For Diablo it can't work. Diablo was designed for isometric, and if you change the viewpoint you can as well change the genre. It's like playing an RTS in first person. There is just too much going on.

Well, that's a good thing. Because if someone in real life attacks from behind that's the feeling you get, and Oblivion is more or less going for realizm. Diablo, tho, is not.

We could always have a "Diablo: Ghost" game? Maybe put it off for a few years saying we are working on it and never look at it again?
Sorry, couldn't resist taking a cheap shot at SC:Ghost.
SC: Ghost was 3rd person platform wasn't it? That view does very well, I love my LOZ, but I think Isometric view is better for the Diablo series.

I remember when i was in the graveyard in 'Painkiller' the music drained my blood out. Complete darkness and endless monsters with such a terryfiying music.
Pure pwnage.

Actually, I wouldnt mind a 3rd person rotatable camera, as long as it was a good distance away from the player and didnt require constant adjustment

Pure pwnage.
