I just poped in d1, got to level 7 with legit gear and the butcher kicked my butt 3 times, couldn't kill him lol.
what makes me cringe is when you die he keeps hacking on your corpse until you h it esc and restart in town
hehe, I got him from the first time. I just skipped him until lvl 6, got the valor armor and spells and then i came back to lvl 2 and kicked his ass without using any potions
diablo is hella addictive but the parts i like most are the variety of characters because u can make bunch of different types and hybrids apportion statss how you see fit same way with skills... in wow u cant put stats where u want just skill points :-/... i love the barter system opposed to trading gold...and the pvp is fuckin dank... ever want a good duel call meh lol... one thing i miss though is the feel of diablo being a dark dungeon crawler... deserts? jungles? mountains? wtf? but i still loved d2 even more so than diablo 1 so i cant really complain lol its been the only game on my computer for the past 10 years

lol everytime i would attack or cast he would interupt me =P that homo! hes spooky
Hehe, level 2, sandman sorry for correction. But im kinda replaying Diablo 1 now, never killed Diablo in that one. I only watched how my bro did it :(. Im on lvl 9 now. ''It's hot down here''
Writing what I did wanted to make me pop in D1 myself.
That Tristram music was like music to my ears. Like I said the whole atmosphere comes off as creepy. The curch is dark, and the music is like... wow. Not to mention that there is only one town, and you keep going down rather than going to a city. So you keep going down into the abyss known as hell.
Altogether... just really awesome. Not to mention the fact that you basically kill yourself in the end. I really was not expecting the ending that Diablo gave is. It was just an all around dark game.

haha, Im playing with the rogue chick, so basically I use a bow and i found a nice bow that has a 20% chance knock-back, so it was a bit easier. I interrupted him
Firstly, I would have to say for a medieval fantasy game, it's lack of tolkienesque races. I love how Diablo is human playable characters only.
Secondly, it's music, in general. Diablo 1 has a really good soundtrack, it really amps up the atmosphere, this was harder to do in Diablo 2 due to its use of much wider and open spaces. Diablo 1 was very claustrophobic.
thirdly, the characters, even the ones that don't do a heck of a lot, most of the time they usually offer some enjoyable gossip, when you kill Andariel the ngo talk to Gheed, I believe he says he is going to party like it's 999. And based on an earlier dialog with Gheed I would imagine that would involve copious amounts of narlet weed, which he would no doubt smoke until all earthly sensation has left his body.
fourthly, the overall story or concept. The ongoing war between the forces of Heaven and Hell and man's place within it. Being Christian and depending on the exact level of my faith or understanding of it, I will either spend eternity in one of those places, and the decisions I make in this life ditact that outcome, much like that of the peoples of Sanctuary. Diablo is not a direct mirroring of Judeo-Christianity, but it certains shares several parallels.
fifthly, although it's somewhat a continuation of four, is the lore of the diablo game it'self. Right down to the backstories behind the characters. I find the histories ofthe classes very interesting and appealing, I am a sucker for epicness. Anytime there is mass exodi of peoples leaving to create their own societies or peoples removing themselves from the norms of society to further their knowledge of the so-called forbidden arts (of necromancy) I am so there.
Gameplay is good too, but addictive gameplayis not the soul reason I enjoy this series.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I'll have to say the music really did it for me. It set the theme just right. Its so often overlooked but a lot of the more recent games I've played including WoW have a mediocre soundtrack. Hellgate London's was horrible.

I agree! But on top of that, for me it was also the wide range of unique skills and skill trees. I love them.
unique items, especially the ones passed on from d1 to d2 such as grandfather and windforce. Although they arent the best items in d2, having them in stash somewhere is a must
the awesome uniques and sets, the awesome story, getting online with friends, collecting items in my stash, the awesome environments to explore, trash talking pvp, team pvp, the epic soundtrack, plethora of great monsters to kill, and the fast paced action with rpg aspects
what makes me cringe is when you die he keeps hacking on your corpse until you h it esc and restart in town
