New class idea here. To some, it's a Paladin remake, but I'm trying to put a slightly different spin on this. So here is the Judge.
This is not like a judge in a black robe with a gavel and a wig. No this is straight out of the Book of Judges in the Old Testament. When the 12 tribes of Israel settled in Canaan, before they had kings like David, Saul, and Solomon, they had judges whom God would call up to deal with threats to the Hebrews. Examples include Gideon who led the children of Israel against Amalekite and Midianite invaders, Jephthah who promised to sacrifice the first thing he saw when he got home in exchange for a victory (he got the victory, and the first thing he saw was his daughter), and Samson our favorite hairy fighter who slew a ton of philistines with the jawbone of an ass. There was also the female Judge, Deborah, for all of those who think that this can't be a class because of the need of two genders.
Now as for how this would fit into the world of Sanctuary, I've long felt that Jewish culture needs representation. The paladin is based off of a Christian Crusader, whereas this is more of a Jewish war-cheif. They would hail from the deserts of Aranoch where they lead tribes of wandering nomadic people who like Jews, have a lot of traditions that set them apart. As judges they lead the people against enemies and they settle disputes.
Skill trees would include Leadership (auras, blessings, and all around buffs for the Judge and those are with them), combat (lets use that sheild to maximum effect, along with some serious smiting), and Holy (visions of areas ahead, exorcising demons and undead, ressurection, possible healing, and all manner of miracles).
Problem with that idea is that it's just the paladin with a different name. All the new classes are almost completely different to the old ones.
Altough, if they were able to think up some awesome abilities for him to have, I'd be all for it, one of the very few good character suggestions I've seen
Diablo seems to be based pretty heavily on paganism and it's many different forms, with stuff like the sorc, the druid, the necro ("actual" necromancy is about speaking with the spirits, not raising skeletons, but they seem to amp-up everything for the fantasy value) and even the barbarian is very much like the anglo-saxon warriors.
The paladin seems to represent christianity in a way, with the holy spells and whatnot, although World of Warcraft's paladin fits the idea a little better.
I wouldn't be surprized to see a new version of the paladin, so this idea might work. Especially since they made the Wizard which is essentially a chaotic version of the Sorceress. However, since they don't seem to really focus much on minor differences among the characters' religions and belif systems (they tend to go for extremes) i'm not sure if they'd worry much about the characters' religious background being slightly different than the paladin, since there really isn't a distinguished "god" in Diablo games. Even the paladin focuses on "the light" in general rather than a speciffic diety.
So, while i understand there are great differences between Christian and Jewish in real life, i don't think they are going to really focus on that in diablo.

Stay.
You don't always know where you stand,
'Till you know that you won't run away.
There's something inside me that feels...
Like breathing in sulfur.
Vengeance: The more attacks you block with your sheild, the more you can channel that damage back at your enemies.
Vision: Allows you to see what's ahead. Prayer abillity. (Prayer abillities mean the judge kneels to pray, and whilst this happens, the channeld abillity goes into effect).
Sacrifice: Converts health into mana.
Pillar of Fire: Calls down fire from the heavens.
I decided that Aura's where way too paladin and that they shouldn't be on this guy. Blessings are still an option. Other than that I wanted this guy to do the plagues like what Moses did to Egypt, but most of the ones that could be used have been taken by the WD.
The Judge can also call upon the 3 Archangels of the Angiris council who are sympathetic to humanities plight for aid. This will summon up an angel who will come, cast a spell for a while, and leave. Examples:
Angel of Justice: Will do damage to enemies every time you or your allies are Damaged.
Angel of Balance: Makes those who are weaker stronger and those who are stronger, weaker. Use with caution and judgement (pun halfway intended).
Angel of Love/Peace: Heals you and your allies. Also, no one on either side can do damage whilst this being is present.
Hopefully these abillities make this one different from the Paladin. In the mean time about the culture. Basicly, whilst the Paladin was a knight in shining armor, this fellow is more of a Desert cheif. Devoted to the Light, but steeped in traditions. This fellow would wear some metal armor, but would also where a robe underneath. A sword and a sheild are weapons, but a staff could be a weapon too (depends on if you want your judge to melee or cast more). Basicly, while the old Pally was pure melee, this fellow can melee, or he or she can hang back and buff allies or curse enemies. Or just bring down the firey indignation of the light upon the enemies.
I love the idea of the Judge, props to you man. I'd totally use this character. I know that Diablo is about pagan and whatnot, but if you look at the Paladin, he doesnt worship self-sacrafice like the witch doctor, or demonic forces like the necromancer. So this could be a totally legit character.
The only thing I don't like are the skill tree names.
I think you can replace it with these (or better names):
Spiritual Force (sort of like Holy, it's where your Angels could be categorized under)
Temple Mastery (skills regarding combat since biblically the temple stands for the body)
Holy Presence (this could be the aura, blessings, and all around buffs. The judge will receive God's spirit as his source of power)
Doesn't work. This is not a government official for a territory, provice, region or colony. Like I said, this is not a man in a black robe with a wig and a gavel. This is an Old Testament Judge. Someone like Gideon, Sampson, or Jephthah, who leads a middle eastern people against their enemies and settles disputes. It's a Desert-Holy-Warrior-chief.

Cool ideas for skill trees. I'm not sure if this group would be Monotheistic or not, although Monotheism could be an interesting concept for sanctuary. I don't know that it's ever been introduced to anyone there before.

No doubt someone is gonna name theirs Dredd.
