I voted religious because I am a Born Again Christian and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ
Well then, this discussion is about to get interesting.
Here are some questions I want you to answer:
Do you believe in evolution?
Do you believe in young earth creationism?
Do you believe in Noah's flood?
Do you interpret the Bible literally and exact?
Do you believe that being homosexual is a sin?
Please answer why as well.
I believe in Evolution, God put whatever was first and it evolved that doesn't disprove that theres a god or not so that question is pointless and meaningless.
I don't know what young earth creationism is so i can not comment.
Yes i believe in Noah's flood to an extent. I believe it was a big flood yet not on the scale the bible says. Look at Pakistanis flood today its a huge flood of epic proportions yet it is not in the sky as said in the bible.
I do not interpret the bible literally and exact. I believe that god put us here but not in the way that it has been stated nor do I take literally Noah's flood as I stated earlier. I do however take the entire new testament of the bible literally, excluding all parts where God has talked to man. Everything else I believe in fully.
I do not believe homosexuality is a sin. It is how a person is born therefore can not be sin.
I want to meet you and shake your hand.
Also, a friend of mine got an English translation of the Koran and either the translators had a bit too much drink and smoked too much weed or the people who wrote the Koran were on something that caused one hell of a high.
Not one person in this entire thread insulted the Bible. Not one person insulted the Torah, Atheist beliefs, or whatever. Why the fuck are you insulting the Quran? It's not because I'm a Muslim, it's just outright rude and dumb.
The Quran wasn't "written" by people. The prophet Muhammed had an epiphany, and wrote it down himself after the words descended from God unto him.
Be respectful the next time, or keep your shabby opinions to yourself.
I believe in Evolution, God put whatever was first and it evolved that doesn't disprove that theres a god or not so that question is pointless and meaningless.
Meaningless? I was merely asking a question. I'm not attacking you, I was simply asking something.
Whether it disproves God or not, adding God to the equation cannot make it scientific (I am not saying you said this). Adding God to scientific only substitutes one unknown with another.
I don't know what young earth creationism is so i can not comment.
Young Earth Creationism is the long way of saying Creationism. It is saying that the Earth was born very recent and with all the species intact with all their part intact (fish with gills, birds with feathers and wings, etc). It is the religious argument against evolution in other words.
Yes i believe in Noah's flood to an extent. I believe it was a big flood yet not on the scale the bible says. Look at Pakistanis flood today its a huge flood of epic proportions yet it is not in the sky as said in the bible.
If a flood was put onto the Earth to kill everything and everyone who wasn't on the ark it would be impossible for life to exist afterward.
First off, you need hundreds and hundreds or workers to make an ark of that magnitude to withstand water in every way, a task that only modern day science allows us to do. Noah would have to be a selfish king to force hundreds of workers to sacrifice themselves to build a gigantic ark that they cannot board, an act that is probably not worthy of the bible.
Second, during the flood, inside the ark it would come to be an impossible environment for anyone or anything to live in. For one, if the bible said that 2 of every animal on the Earth came to the ark (a task that would also seem impossible), the food would quickly disappear, and you are also forgetting that animals eat other animals. How do you keep animals from attacking each other? Cages? Then how do you feed carnivores? Also have you ever heard what happened to people and animals on a ship during a storm? Disease. You would have to fight the absolute freezing temperature of the storm and find a way to keep everything there from not getting sick, which in itself would be impossible. Back them, a simple cold would kill you. If one animal or human gets any virus, it'll spread ridiculously fast.
Third, you have after the storm. You come back from the storm and you see the Earth in ruins. No food, animals, etc. Just a bunch of rocks across the huge wasteland. What do you do now? Nothing. You starve. The end of the world would be inevitable, along with the diseased animals and Noah.
I do not interpret the bible literally and exact. I believe that god put us here but not in the way that it has been stated nor do I take literally Noah's flood as I stated earlier. I do however take the entire new testament of the bible literally, excluding all parts where God has talked to man. Everything else I believe in fully.
The Bible is not actually the true word of God. In fact, the gospels have been put together by a group of priests who actually decided what the gospels should be, out of the hundreds and hundreds of gospels there are out there. The entire Old Testament could actually use metaphors, just like Jesus's parables. They can be simple stories to teach, and not the actual account of what happened.
I do not believe homosexuality is a sin. It is how a person is born therefore can not be sin.
Thank you.
To young earth creationism. HELL NO, I believe in God but honestly there are facts you can't simply ignore facts. If i find a fossil and carbon date it to 14 million years ago how are you going to disprove that. It simply can't be done.
To the flood response i never said I believed it wiped out all of the world. I said i believed it to an extent. The place that all this took place was the middle east, I made a reference to the Pakistanis flood because this is how i think it was. The floods stopped at a certain point and beyond that there was still thriving life. But in the flood zone mostly everything was destroyed and people lost their lives. Being on the ark(not with all these animals)would raise your chances of survival. They could have gathered enough food to survive and drifted to where they could restart life again.
I did not realize you weren't attacking me I am sorry for saying it is meaningless, what i meant to say was that there can be evolution and a God. Just simply that God put whatever came first and it evolved to what we are now.
Oh I see what you are saying. Sorry I misinterpreted what you were saying.
Well at least you do see logic, and for that I need to respect you, since not a lot of religious folk can see science as a non-religion, but as a growing process to uncover fact.
You are right, that there is historical evidence of giant floods in the mideast, and that can be accounted for. Whether it was a mistake, or whether it truly was an act of God, some people could have survived in the nearby fertile lands near Israel, which would make sense, eventually being conquered by Egypt which eventually led to the Exodus account of the Bible.
My perception, as a scientific naturalist and atheist, is that there was a gigantic flash flood, and there were those who were more prepared for this than others, and they took their livestock aboard their ark or boat and sailed out into sea. Whether it was 40 days and nights, I don't know, but I think it was a fairly short amount of time (1-2 weeks), where they eventually came back to their settlement, saw it destroyed, and inferred that God must have chosen them to survive.
I do not believe homosexuality is a sin. It is how a person is born therefore can not be sin.
Well you are a rarity among the religious. I like you. :)When I see people like you, I get a little hope for those that are religious. Not alot of hope, but a little.
It doesn't matter what you think, it doesn't matter what you believe, religion is religion. If religion says X is a sin, it's a sin, and it doesn't care if you abide by it or not. You'd be sinning if you violated it, quite simply. I'm not reflecting my OWN opinion, I'm reflecting fact. If you ask me, I don't give two shits about what a person does. I don't give a shit if he fucks a girl, a guy, a dog, or a watermelon. It's his life, it's his decision. What "I" believe in, should not be reflected unto him. I should not judge him, berate him, nor should I have a violent, disrespectful, demeaning, or disgracing conduct when I communicate with him. What he does is of his own volition. They're his decisions, not mine. If religion says that he will pay for his homosexuality, I don't care, because simply put, I myself aren't a homosexual. I don't know the person. I don't pretend that I know the person. For all I know, he's gay, yet he prays everyday, does everything he can to get closer to God, but he can't help the fact that he's gay, and asks God for his forgiveness/understanding/whatever. On the other hand, if religion says don't drink alcohol, I don't care, because I like alcohol, and I do what I can and what I'm capable of religiousness-wise. I do what I can to repent and do things that can hopefully make up for my shortcomings. I am, however, completely against a completely carefree life. A life of complete and utter fornication. I'm no saint. I drink, I smoke, I mess around with girls, I watch porn, I curse, I do all these things. But, I also pray, fast, read scripture every night before I sleep, and do all the things that I can. I can't bring myself to believe that we're only here to have fun, fuck around, live life, then die and that's that.

@Meph I don't oppose it but it creeps me out because i am straight not gay although, I guess it is perfectly fine to be either way. I like your view of life, and I am the same way. I'm 15 I drink, I watch porn, I fuck around with some girls, But i too pray follow some of my religious beliefs and make the most of it at the same time. This is how more people should live. Not completely one way or the other.
@Lt.Venom Thank you I look forward to this meeting one day.

Yeah but if you're a guy and you don't watch porn by the age of 15, there's something wrong with your hormones
I personally believe that it's both up to the parent and to the child for him to drink underage. I personally don't care because I was raised in Polish family and I drink all the time. Do I drink and drive? No. You see there is a limit, and creating a taboo around certain topics will turn teens (who are in their rebellious state) to that topic. I hate that every single day we hear about how you will die if you have sex because the girl you have sex with will have AIDS, herpes, and chew your dick off with her vagina teeth. It's just stupid and if anything it will make rebellious teens turn to sex.

But whatever. That's how life works.
I agree 100% most kids i know(in NYC) are dumb ass douche bags, yet they drink all the time and act retarded and get alcohol poisoning because they feel they have to drink all they can tonight cause they may not be able to tomorrow. In Italy though when i visited family there this summer, 12 year olds drink beer and are more responsible than the kids i know here. They don't drink in excess and they don't drink and drive. It is simply teenagers wanting to defy and when they defy they do it as much as possible leading to harm to their own bodies. Why the lawmakers don't see this is beyond me.

First off sorry about the late reply. Time to rape your questions.
1. I do believe humans have evolved over time but not how most evolutionists believe, I believe we stared as a primitive beings and pretty much evolved into us today
2. No, I believe that the "7 days" referred to in the Holy Bible are really the 7 geologic time periods before the first primitive form of humans came to exists on the earth (otherwise known as Neanderthals)
3. This is a though one, I DO believe that there was a Great Flood (which has been proven by science) but I view the Story of Noah as a parable to follow and trust in God.
4. No I do not. I view most stories (Adam and Eve, the Great Flood) as parables.
5. Nope. I personally think most Christians are ignorant about this. It is very ironic how Christianity has evvoled over the years from a Religion about love and acceptance to a hate fueled religion. I personally don't like the modern Christian Church at all. I call myself a Christian because it literally means "Follower of Christ". I have my own personal relationship with Christ and don't go to church because of this very reason.
yeah i dont go to church anymore when i figured out pastors got paid to do their job, i mean wtf? that goes against almost everything i was taught in sunday school...
thankfully Christianity got a lot less strict over time.

Drinking shouldn't be, though, I'm 20 and can't drink without supervision, wtf is that?
I do wonder how the hell did this discussion got there, though.
I have to disagree with this. If both/all parties agree to the intercourse and to it being taped, I see no problem at all. If they don't agree, that's rape and that is illegal already.

Why wouldn't pastors get paid to spread their b.s.? Glenn Beck gets paid to spread his b.s., why not the pastors too!? (Sorry, had to make a Beck joke. Lol! (And if I offended any Beck fans, I'm not sorry. ))
Also, Christianity did get a lto less strict, in some areas, in other areas they are just as bad as ever.
It's probably because i'm not going to go out and shove my religious rhetoric down peoples throats. My religious beliefs are my business, but if somebody asks what they are I will tell them gladly.
Why wouldn't pastors get paid to spread their b.s.?

because for some reason doing something allegedly righteous by spreading the gospel and getting paid for it? thats like superman charging a fee everytime for saving your arse, it just doesnt seem right. yeah i understand he needs to make a living, but by supposedly teaching others to be selfless and to be free from envy and greed, yet charging a fee? seems contradictory...
...and yes, i know theres contradictions in the bible.
and on the whole, new testament is much less strict than the old. now, instead of devoting our lives to the Lord, we just have to accept Jesus as our savior to get into heaven

Thats why I like the Church I go to on occasion. All of the pastors volunteer, they accept everyone (I mean EVERYONE) and its just an all around good vibe.

To answer your question, there is nothing wrong with porn, whether it be simple erotica or 2 girls 1 cup. I guess you view it differently as a girl, but as a dude, you really can't survive your teen years without porn.
The only problem I have with religion is that you have guys like Kent Hovind, Ray Comfort, Kurk Cameron (or however you spell it) and all those fanatical creationists who people to hate science and take the bible literally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-14Nhj05L90

It isn't a matter of whether or not a male can survive X years without Y substance, it's a matter of principle. If one person wants to tie another person up and whip them until they cry then screw mercilessly while a video camera tapes it, and both/all parties are consciously willing, then I see no problem with them then taking that tape and selling it.

I love Kent Hovind, best example of creationist stupidity I've ever known. Idiot watches the Flinstones like it's a damned documentary. Lmao.
but as a dude, you really can't survive your teen years without porn.
Specifically the presence of this mentality is why hardcore porn should be made illegal. It's going to drag us down in something like Society, you just wait and see.
You don't NEED anything, trust me, if someone stopped feeding you you'd totally forget about porn, sex, and even women in general. You're just spoiled because you feel entitled to everything, porn included.
Just an FYI, hardcore porn has been around basically since 'the beginning', there was even an easily-digestible History Channel special on the topic for those of you who think doing your own research constitutes too much effort.
'Society' has been fine (or as fine as it'll ever be), regardless.
If I had a penny for every time a religion and science argument lead to hardcore porn...
