My favorite metal genres are black and pagan/viking/folk, but there are far too many good bands around to be mentioned here. But if I absolutely must pick one name... Well, in the past few years I have sworn in the name of Amon Amarth. They stand above the rest.
Amon Amarth is one of my favorite bands right now, I don't know why I didn't put them on my list in the OP.
Around this time of year, I start getting back into Folk metal. I don't know, I just think that's my Christmas music or something (as weird as that sounds).
Queen
Styx
Aerosmith
Metallica
Dio
Creed
Evanescence
AC/DC
REO speedwagon
Quiet Riot
Puddle of Mudd
Lifehouse
Journey
Shinedown
Staind
Avenged Sevenfold
Bon Jovi
The Who
The doors
Guns n roses
Motley Crue
Lynard skynard
Tom Petty
Just to name a few in no particular order.

Granted, the only rappers I've ever liked were Eminem and T-Pain (with some Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent on the side), I think Party Foul and I are on the same page.
And Desmond, did you just find a list of the most popular bands of the last 40 years and put them in a list? lol
Not saying that's a bad thing, but all those bands have had a long duration in the sun (if you get what I mean).

I like quite a bit of rap actually... only a select few artists, like I could listen to Tech N9ne and Lil Wayne all day, but if someone put on like Soulja Boy or those guys that sing that song about dougy-ing or however you spell it shits gonna roll.
Updated favorite bands list (in no particular order):
- The Dangerous Summer (always)
- Novembre (good song by them is "Bluecracy")
- The Ghost Inside
- The Acacia Strain
- Clutch ("Promoter" is something to mob to)
- Barn Burner (Sabbath-esque band, their LP came out just this year, they have something special if you're willing to listen)
- Lacrimas Profundere
- CKY
- HIM (Mephy, just leave it be)
... just leave it be.

Lil Wayne and Eminem are the two most boring rappers to have ever existed. They keep talking about the same exact shit over and over again, coupled with a shit attitude. Lil Wayne, we get that you smoke weed and are against the man..we get that you use words and phrases that mean absolute squat in the English language. Eminem, we get that you're a badass white guy who made it out of a predominantly black neighborhood, and that you're trying to reform your life, which you mentioned in not one, not two, but 3+ songs. You fuck up, make a song about unfucking up, fuck up again, make another song, and on and on and on. It's getting boring, champ. Not to mention their annoying vocals. Try Immortal Technique, he's the only rapper that I can stand even remotely.

I love immortal Technique. Another really good rapper is Deltron 3030 or Del Tha Funkee Homosapien if you wanna delve deep into my rap interests

Well that's good. At least you're not one of those guys who only know a band for one of their songs (which is most likely a single).
Those guys piss me off. I mean, if you buy an album just for a couple songs, that's a slap in the face to everybody who worked on that album. I have found many, many hidden gems from artists who I didn't even like until I threw down one of their albums. Those same bands end up being some of my favorites, so it's pointless to judge what you hear on the radio for what it is.
That being said, The Millionaires fucking suck so bad. Anyone who likes The Millionaires don't deserve to wake up in the morning.

I wish i knew how to do the quotes XD might make this easier
But yea Siaynoq i saw the music vid of tighten up by black keys and i was quite surprised, so i dl'd the album and yea, i really liked they're style and never thought id have an interest in the genre.
And as soon as i saw pagan/viking/folk i thought Korpiklanni!
I always hate seeing people whos fav bands are all old XD but its cool to see the vast favorites of the thread.
I usually don't like recommending bands here since most people just typically like metal. But if you liked The Black Keys then you must definitely check out The Kills. Particularly the album, No Wow.
edit: If you hit Reply on someone's actual post then it is like quoting them.
haha yea its not so cool to see 10 people in a row saying they like metalica and megadeath XD so i agree with you there.
So i just youtubed a few songs, and they're pretty descent there any particular album your suggesting?
and ty for the quote thing, i was 1 button off haha
and i'll reply with a recommendation of my own its not the same genre, but its an interesting style. The Creepshow, the genres called psychobilly and they're a band ive followed for the past 2-3 years.
heh i like some metal too (soad ftw) just dont enjoy seeing the same ones repeatedly on every1s fav list but its all preference.. so oh well, im just extra proud of my variety

I've sort of been listening to lots of video game and planet music lately, but besides that I'm also very fond of:
Bibio
Broadcast
Deerhunter
Ely Guerra
School of Seven Bells
Siaynoq's Playthroughs
Styx
Aerosmith
Metallica
Dio
Creed
Evanescence
AC/DC
REO speedwagon
Quiet Riot
Puddle of Mudd
Lifehouse
Journey
Shinedown
Staind
Avenged Sevenfold
Bon Jovi

Wow... looks like I have wasted like 3 years of my life then.
ALSO, throw E-40 on my favorite artist list too.
