Here, for all you paranoid people, here's a live feed of the facility, so you can watch in. I watched for about 3 minutes. Nothing is happening right now, but it might be worth checking out whenever they're doing an experiment.

(Then again, I don't know if you'd see anything more than a couple of jumpy scientists lol)...

Oh god, if there are any character bound items in D3 I will flip out. I hate that crap.

But yea, individual drop system, so no ninja-looters or anything which I think is better. Also should mean that by having a MF build (assuming there is MF) you will be rewarded more for group play.

And that is an interesting question. If our consciousness were to die every few seconds, or more likely at all times, then what makes us into "us" exacly? Just continuity?

Yea, and are we actually conscious to the point we think we are? Do we actually have choice? Or are all our decisions the simple process of causality, reacting to events in the past and electrical impulses running through our nervous system?

Mmmm, are we getting too philosophical for a video game forum? lol...

That's the whole beauty of it, and why America can get away with it every freaking time they want to go to war. Even if there is an overwhelming array of evidence against them, the people of the country are so enveloped in a sense of pride and patriotism, that they will turn the other cheek.

    You mean 'controversial'?
I don't think so. Today I told a lot of people on campus 'happy September 11th!'

    My reasoning is that:
    1. It's been 7 years, come on people
    2. It's way over sensationalized by the media
    3. It was an inside job used to sway public opinion of engaging in international war (and other reasons like making lots of money and being able to finally pass The Patriot Act)
    4. I have a quite a dark sense of humor

But, I did read about this interesting theory that since the brain just functions in a highly complex system of Boolean values (true and false, 1 and 0) based on chemicals, hormones, and the like, that transferring a brain to a computer is possible, but not at this stage of technology. Then of course you'd need people to maintain you, would have to assume that you would have an energy source for eternity, that the world would not some day fall to pieces, that your mind would not be tampered with by some sort of hacker... Basically, you're no better off. With time, everything dies. There's just too many variables and time expounds on them.

An interesting thought came to mind: Even if your memories were transferred to a functioning vessel, would you still be yourself? Like, in the process of the transfer, would you really be dying, but your memories be preserved? I don't quite know how to explain it.

I've thought the same thing. Hypothetically, lets assume that with the advances in technology, we will be able to create full human clones (post birth) of our selves. If we just keep these clones on ice for when our organs start to fail or we are terminally ill, and then transfer our consciousness into them, are we truly still living? (Think of that Arnold move, Six Days I think).

The same sort of thing happens in the Star Trek beaming system. It takes apart our matter at one point and reassembles it at an arbitrary destination.

In both cases, from the perspective of a third party, we continue to live on. However from a first person view, is this true? Or do we in fact die and some other person is created with the exact same physiology and memories who begins a life?

This argument can obviously be taken to an extent that perhaps our consciousness ends every few seconds, but we do not notice.

I personally don't give a crap what happens after I die, and so creating a clone like in that movie does not seem appealing to me in the slightest. Nor would I want my memories to be transfered to a computer or machine. If my brain was somehow transfered however, then perhaps I wouldn't be dead at all, and my life could continue long after it's expiry date... Now I'm just rambling...

Well, in my mind uniques should be better than most rares for all slots, but a good roll on a rare should yield better than uniques. Essentials rares would be extremely variable and the complete end game items. Uniques would be better than say 95% of rare rolls, not 99.999% as they are now... barring the overpowered use of runewords.
    Yep.
Uniques should still be heavily desired, but rares should have the potential to be the cream of the crop. I don't want to see every damn class using the exact same items, especially among the elite players.

Umpa, you can believe in whatever you want to, but that line of reasoning is at best extremely optimistic. Maybe as far as I know, I am the only conscious being on the planet and everyone else is a robot. If you truly are content holding on to that 0.0000000000000000000001% chance or w/e it could be, then good for you. I can't give myself false hope like that and would much rather be a realist and accept our reality for what science, history, and observation has proven to be true.

Jetrall, I think Vancouver drivers are generally just ridiculously courteous. I've been to most of Canada, and especially in areas like Toronto or Montreal there are some really aggressive and asshole-like drivers.

I live on the North Shore and everyone just waves other drivers to go first and smiles, even if they have the right away. Can lead to annoying standoffs at 4-way stops...

Anyways, Canadians are generally more kind, yes. But Canadians also do not have the same identity that Americans do. America is called a 'melting pot.' This means that whatever culture you are from, when you live in America you are turned into whatever an American is and embrace the American identity. In Canada, we have a 'cultural mosaic' which means that every Canadian's identity includes their specific culture. We are more forgiving, more open minded, and more tolerant than Americans, especially the Southerners / red necks / evangelicals.

we are alll going to die

Even if a black hole was created and didn't vanish immediately, the world would not collapse on itself. The effect of a black hole pulling in all surrounding matter is just gravity at work. For the types of black holes we imagine, you would need a huge star (many times larger than our sun) to do that kind of damage.

A black hole with the mass of a proton would have the same gravitational field as a proton, basically nothing. This is not going to happen, we are not all going to die.

You sound like you believe in an absolute truth when one does not exist :P
If you mean that everyone will die, then yes, that is the truth. Even if consciousness could be transferred into a machine (which I severely doubt because consciousness is merely the body reacting and sending electric impulses throughout the nervous system and brain), our planet, our sun, our universe, will not last forever. You will die. And in my opinion, the sooner you become at peace with that the more happy you will be.

That's how that guy from The Doors died (Jim Morrison), auto-erotic asphyxiation. But if you are going to die, does it really matter how? I would rather slowly dwindle over many years at my old age than to go out in some quick, painless, amazing way years before. After you are dead, all life, all the universe ceases to exist as far as you are concerned because your consciousness ends. God, I am so friggin drunk right now... Hopefully I can find some freshmen tail tonight. Well peace out guys.
