Based on the Beta builds, I was taken aback at the mobility and damage output of the Demon Hunter compared to the Wizard.
That's interesting, because in a few other threads I've read today people have been disappointed with the Demon Hunter's damage and putting Wizard in a pretty good spot damage-wise.

Unless I misread your post and you were saying that Demon Hunter was surprisingly low compared to Wizard in regards to damage and mobility.

I'm thinking everyone is just seeing different things due to gear and playstyle, perhaps.

Another thing that could have been considered while lowering the Wizard's damage is PvP. You can't have the Wizard be able to frontload tons and tons of damage, because then you'd have to offset that by having them drop like a sack of potatoes when they take damage.

They'll still have reasonable damage, comparable to other classes. The thing is, they'll have defensive capabilities too, so they don't die.

And if anyone's thinking "Well no one should ever get to a Wizard due to slows, stuns, etc., so it's okay for them to be fragile," there will be unavoidable damage in PvM and PvP. Barbarians will get in your face and tear you up.

    Quote from RaidenFreeman
It's simple. When you cast an aoe spell, you don't cast it instantly. You activate a targeting icon, just like aoe spells in Warcraft 3. Then you move it around with the right thumbstick. That's how it works in most games. In LoL this is the default control. If you instantly cast where the cursor is, it's called smartcast (the default for diablo). Smartcast is more fast paced, but it's not indespensable.
Yeah, except on the PC you have the mouse that you can move quickly (or pre-locate to where you want it to be) to the spot you want. On the console, where's the targetting circle gonna start? Somewhere at your character I assume. It'll be a pain to try to move it where you want when a horde of demons is charging your location.

I'm just wondering how targeting will work for consoles. On PC we have the handy cursor to aim, which consoles lack. I imagine that they'll have the control stick move and turn your character, and you'll just fire in a straight line from where you're standing. That has a lot of potential to be inaccurate.

What they could do to remedy that is have auto targeting, or the shoulder buttons to tab between targets. This doesn't really feel like it would work well in the fast-paced combat they're trying to portray in DIII.

And what about ground-targeted abilities, like the Barbarian's Leap? Will it just guess what enemy you want to jump on, or if there are no enemies, just jump as far as it'll go? That doesn't seem good to me.

I wonder how it worked for Torchlight. I only have it for PC and I've never seen it on consoles. It's essentially the same as Diablo.

I'd like to point out that in a game like Diablo a class is definitely not solely measured on their ability to frontload damage. Diablo is also about survivability. The Wizard has a ridiculous amount of CC, slowing power, and otherwise ability to avoid getting hit. Compare that to a class like Barbarian or Monk, who are forced to stand in the pack to deal damage and you'll find that Wizards can run circles around a pack picking them off one by one.

There's more to a class than damage.

Also it's beta. At level 13. That's like (for those of you who've played WoW) complaining that their level 10 priest does crappy damage compared to a level 10 hunter.

It could have an effect on the PC version. If they decide to roll out a console version, that means they have to make all future content work for both the PC and the console, or change the content to work with the console.
If they go with the first option, that dumbs down the PC content, since the console has way less freedom for controls than the PC does.
If they go with the second option, it kinda separates the two versions from one another. Maybe a person on the PC wouldn't be able to play with a friend on the XBox, for instance.

There are some games that are Diablo-esque that did well on the console that were also released for the PC, though. The multiplayer was separated by console or PC, however.

The game hasn't even released yet and people are already saying their classes are bad.
It's still in beta. Also the max level is 13. Certainly not an accurate representation of level 60 play. They don't balance the game around level 13 Skeleton King. I'm sure Blizzard will make sure all classes are close to one another in damage at end game.

I don't know if this relates to the Diablo servers or not. But on the cataclysm launch i played from when it went active til that night and experienced zero problems with servers. I think that as a whole Blizzard has gotten better about managing huge waves of players.
True. I had the same experience. Although WoW servers ≠ Diablo III servers, I hope they are similar enough that there are minimal, or no, problems.

Awesome timing for me. The semester ends the week before.

And yeah, I'm hoping and praying and crossing my fingers and my toes that the servers don't explode.

posted a message on No Particle Effects for CE Dyes
    Quote from Kazlan

So I just noticed something, they have image placeholders but there is a description, though I am sure it could change.

Bottled Cloud: The gentle wind of the heavens cools the air, infusing the area with a soft glow.

Bottled Smoke: An eerie howl emanates from within as creeping shadows spill forth.

These descriptions seem very different from the other dyes and the bottled cloud makes it sound like it would glow but wouldn't that be a particle effect?
It would be a particle effect. It's just flavor text, like all the other dyes have.
