AKA you should play with Vsync anyway. As I've said before If you're able to hit 100FPS in a fight and you have a 60Hz monitor, which is what most people have, then Vsync is the best way to play. Sure it reduces framerate somewhat but If you can play without ever dipping below 60 the advantages outweigh the extra power needed. So you get 200-250 FPS in town but you only see 60 and if you see +60 then you're getting tearing which looks horrendous and is worse than being locked at 60FPS and have some more taxation on your GPU. And before all this if you hit +100 FPS constantly and +200 in town you will notice 0 difference. unless you lag spike during battle, or drop way below 60FPS. Because an eye can only discern 60 Frames in a second, some can better perceive 120 but once you pass through that 120 it's almost indiscernible anyway so a "technical" FPS drop of ~ 100 FPS from 250-150 isn't really an issue. In fact you'd see less tearing and therefore prbably enjoy the lower FPS more.

The only reason not to play with Vsync is it forces you to cut frames or its too taxing on your GPU, but lets face it 60FPS is enough and the cutting of frames means you had some to cut anyway. Even with a 120HZ monitor if you're getting 250 you'd see tearing a lot which is awful, vsync would lock you at 120 and allow dips, but you'd never see Tearing and you'd be able to see the image as intended.

This all become obsolete with the advent G-sync, and OLED's we won't need to worry about Vsync and tearing anymore but till its widespread and perfected expect to be unimpressed.

Really? I get 0 FPS drops with a AMD 6950 that has been playing games at max with power draw at +20% and bumped core and memory speeds and fan speeds at ~50% for more than two years now and I see 0 fps drops in Diablo 3 at any point. Hell I run Sc2 on Ultimate settings in 3v3's with max army value for all 6 players and see minimal fps dropping.and the fps drops only occur mid battle and even then its only maybe 10 fps... Seems odd that a 7800ti and an R9 270 would just get bad framerates... Maybe you guys got defective boards? I mean There really should be 0 reason for framerate issues with cards like you have.

Gsync will only be useful if you're afraid of ghosting and reducing FPS with Vsync. For now Vsync is working fine and TBH 120hz isn't all that amazing either. Some items get a "soap-opera" effect and the only real games with a significant benefit are FPS games. In an RTS like Sc2 or in a LoL game you don't need to pick up certain parts of your fast moving screen when moving cross map with your camera, the game does it for you with alerts. In DIablo it's even less useful considering you're camera is in a fixed state and your movement speed barely gets fast enough to motion blur and ghost the surroundings. I'll stick with my preferred panels based off black levels and color accuracy thank you very much. VA or IPS only, no more TN for me. And just one SSD? What are you guys behind the times? Three's a minimum!! I want 1TB SSDS in Raid 10 so I can boot in less than 5 and back it all up at the same time, too expensive right now though so I just run my three normally.

Back on topic slightly. Bleu is correct gurg0. The OS and any other background task his computer preforms eats at his allowance. Unless he feels like closing out every other program besides Diablo 3 He might need a slightly bigger buffer. I know right now I'm using 2.6 w/out any game or major tasks that I run. So I'm closing in on 4; and remember you never want to get too close to your overall buffer, things start to lag up even if you're using 3.6/4 GB of your RAM. Always give yourself some extra Headroom or you will see significant slowdowns even without maxing your RAM out. Thus why I have 16GB in my desktop. There's 0 way I'll ever hit my cap unless I Photoshop, and I stream my gaming sometimes so I'm definitely using a fair bit of it.

gurg0, to your problem did you uninstall the Nvidia driver? If not do so, I had a friend switch from Nvidia to AMD and he had issues cause we didn't uninstall the old driver. Another thing is check your settings and remember not to force AA or AF onto the game it significantly reduces performance. Also note the card you previously had was a DX 10 card the card you are using now is a DX11.2 Both of them are past Dx9 which is what Diablo 3 is, meaning that if you max the game with the old card and played perfectly fine, you'll see no discernible difference with the newer card. This because The old card was already better than normal Dx9 standard card and the newer cards won't do much to up performance in any Dx9 categories they'll only possibly gain a few frames.

Second check for Vsync. If you have it enabled, it caps your frames at whatever the refresh rate of your monitor is at. If you run a 60Hz monitor and you run Vsync it forces the game to play at 60FPS. Even if you're old card was producing 300FPS it would only output 60, if you're new card does 750FPS and you still have Vsync well you're still only going to see 60.

Next up is make sure your foreground and background FPS sliders are at 200. For some reason this game came with a FPS limiter so you could force the game to display less foreground FPS or less background FPS to enjoy your preference of what you want to be better displayed. But at standard settings it has your foreground limited to 60 i think and the background to like 100 or some stupid shit like that. This means the games settings are locking your frames at a certain rate which could be why you see no difference.
In the end though you SHOULD play with Vsync. It makes tearing a non-issue and with your current GPU you won't even notice a hit. PLaying without Vsync will actually make your game loos worse as it will cause tearing in the image. If you don't know what image tearing is look it up, or play without Vsync on a good GPU you'll notice part of your screen (usually the bottom half) has a different frame then the other half. If you play on a normal TN monitor you can only see 60 Frames every second anyway unless you have a 120Hz or one of the 144Hz monitors. SO if you play on the 60Hz monitor all those extra frames actually fuck you over if you don't use Vsync.

As Bleu said, You're sort of SOL... Sorry. Laptops can't upgrade anything besides RAM, and even that is pretty limited usually only 2 So-DIMM ports, some only have 1. The best upgrade would be a graphics card, but sadly you aren't able to internally upgrade the GPU in any way that is normal. You'd have to make some mods to fit in a newer Mobile gpu probably and you'd have to somehow put in a new heatsink for the GPU considering your old one probably wouldn't even be able to cool 5 degrees off it. So count that out.

If your laptop is that old it may have a Mini-PCIE port in which case there are some cards that link to an external box that will house a desktop GPU that you can then use to view from a monitor, but they are pricey and shoddy at best.Thisis one such tool, but this requires a few things

    A- a mini PCIE port
    B- That adapter
    C- A desktop GPU
D- a Monitor to output to

You're best bet if you can is buy a desktop or a better laptop. Either or should suffice. The desktop is the best option considering you can make it cheap and upgrade later, mix and match and really make it your own. And if you're overcome by the "building your own PC" thing don't worry shoot me a PM if you'd be into it as I've done it a few times before as some others on her have as well. It really isn't difficult It's like building Lego sort of.

Yeah, I like the idea of rare drops, but not super crazy rare drops. Being a semi-casual player I like to get cool things too and would prefer not to have to farm 87,000 hours to get them. I know certain "hardcores" like things to be super rare just to keep (damned dirty) casuals from getting them, but gaming has moved beyond that.
I'd agree if we were talking about useful stuff, but this is only about cosmetic items.

You don't gain anything else than being able to look at it. Thus, I think it should be ultra-rare to the point of only knowing that it exists because of data mining.
    Ummm no?

Why should one group be effectively locked out of any content?

Actually, I know the answer...those "hardcaores" want a way to visually distinguish themselves from the (damned dirty) casuals. In the end, it's all about the epeen.
It's not that one group should be locked out.

I mean there should be something desirable in the game which is totally useless (so you don't feel as if you MUST have it to progress), but also very rare.

You could be able to find it even though you have maybe 100 hours played, just as I would be able to find it with my 1000 hours played.
Nothing but level should be tied to hours played.Among some other stats such as kills and stuff like that. If I play 10 or 1000 hours I should have an equal chance of getting everything. Obviously the more you play the more kills the more chances you have of getting the items or whatever, but You should be able to find everything no matter how long you've played. This is why quest-line events are much better, because you can play for 10 hours and complete it and get one or you could play 100 hours complete it 10 times and get 10. It's tied to how many times you complete it instead of "I played X amount of Hours therefore I deserve it"

The "Does nothing for you" is a red herring and is irrelevant. No content should be locked away behind such a tiny droprate that regular players will probably never get it.
Exactly my point. Giving a .02% drop rate on a cosmetic is stupid. How about make it challenging by creating events that are difficult. Instead of having some stupid RNG make up how I get a rare thing how about I have to actually progress through a quest-line to do it. They did it for the Hellfire ring and it worked, They can make a bunch more events too and you'd have put a few months into Diablo's lifespan. It would create a gamespace where people aren't just farming one damned thing for 50 years, but instead farming for multiple things in multiple places that can eventually get them a cosmetic item that makes them look cooler or what have you. OR it could be some awesome legendary, like say if you can do a really long and challenging line of quests you'd be able to pick a legendary out of a pool of available legendaries that you want and receive that item.

This provides an alternative to the grind of most MMO's and RPG's but it doesn't completely negate it, which is another thing that has to be considered.

    Now for my sarcastic side...

You (generic you) are not special for being able to play 10 hours a day, you are not a special snowflake, and are in no way entitled to special items.
We are all special snowflakes. I am unique, I am one, I am ME, I deserve everything!

Yes and while it's happening for drops the percentage isn't so low you're never seeing legendaries. It's a middle ground. What he's proposing here is a super secret super rare legendary cosmetic. That does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR YOU. Why would it be harder to get than a legendary. At least the legendary does something for you or has the possibility of doing something for you

I think it's a good idea but as bagstone said. IF you leave it up to RNG a casual could get it first try and a hardcore million hour player could be stuck forever without it! That's why I like the idea of questing reward. Where yo have to go through series of quests and events to get it. It isn't just kill this or kill that, It turns into go here kill this collect this go here collect this then craft this kill these get this craft this kill that and get it... It's essentially the same but it requires A) work, and B. dedication of time that doesn't rely on some dumb percentage.

posted a message on On Enchanting Legacy Gear (Repost)
I feel as though making 70 items even better is the wrong way to do this... Don't hate me or bash me yet follow me on this.

If they up the power on the newer items to be even more powerful than the current legacy items, then the game has to now accommodate for those new items (i.e Health, resistance, damage on monsters has to increase in proportion with the new stats) This in turn makes the current gear EVEN MORE USELESS. which won't be much of a problem in the long run but it does diminish the ability to farm for newer more powerful items at launch and throughout your playthrough because now those legacy items won't be able to even do T1. I'm in preference of this "band-aid" they've made by not allowing legacy items to be enchanted because it removes them from potentially being much better than the newer items and it allows the game to still be farm-able in its current state. You're not jumping into the game and going from mp10 to master, you're finding a middle ground where it works but barely and there's definitely room to improve. This isn't to say I don't feel like some certain end game items are currently useless/ very underpowered and need to be reworked, I'm talking about making items obsolete vs a massive boost in the general power of all items post-2.0.1 My 2¢ anyway.

posted a message on Blizzard removes enchanting for "60 items", oh but 2.0.1 60s can be enchanted...
I' m sorry but when has enchanting ever been about getting your insanely BIS gear to be useful for end game farming in ROS. IF that's the message you got from Blizzard when they announced it then I want the crack you are smoking sir because it is quite powerful and I'm going to need some just to wade through the bullshit of my life. The whole intent of the enchanting system was so when you found your lvl 70 gear, and it had everything but that one stat you need you could then enchant it to be better, It was meant as a tool to counter the insanely random RNG. It's doing its job, but its job was not to make sure your 60 gear could faceroll T6... I have less than stellar gear and I'm able to play T1 on PTR. I therefore think it's a good thing to disable enchanting on pre 2.0.1 items so that we'd be able to find upgrades throughout our playthroughs that will enable us to then farm higher tiers. All they are doing is making this game last a bit longer because now instead of buying ROS and enchanting and going into T6 and saying "TROLOLOLOLOL EASY PEASY" you go "oh shit I can't handle T2 maybe I should farm T1 for a bit get some upgrades move up as I go and have fun" Why you are upset about this I still don't comprehend. It's essentially fixing the itemization problem of having these overpowered item rule the economy.

And Please stop calling Diablo fans vets trolls. Learn to not generalize in your statements. Have an opinion what have you but please don't bring everyone in this. You make it seem as though we're all a bunch of cocksucking assholes who live to troll.

Is it just me or has the number of 1 posters increased ten-fold over the last day? I mean the ridiculousness level of this thread is over 9000!!!!!!!!! No, really this is ridiculous to think that they wouldn't try and find a way to make legacy items useless past t1-2. Honestly the AH ruined everything It forced Blizzard to completely redo the drop rates to where they were non-existent and there were STILL TONS OF BIS LEGS ON AH! Now that they are trying to force the itemization game back into a state of normalcy you guys are complaining? Please get off your high horses. Think about the game not all those hours you invested. This helps the game not hurt it. It forces you to eventually drop the stupidly BIS items you got because the AH was a dumb idea. This enable the game to have a pretty normal pool of itemization without having to worry about too many people having this crazy ridiculous gear. The reason why DPS on 70 items is insane is to counter people using those stupid items from the AH. It will work too and I'm all for it.

Diablo 3 had a few songs I thought fit the dark theme of Diablo well, one of them ironically was 'Whimseyshire', Leah is my favorite though, because it goes back to the simple eeriness present in the strings. From what I've heard so far with RoS most of the tracks sound similar to D2 and LoD. Which in my opinion is great because they're giving me a very dark brooding vibe again. Which let's be quite honest what Diablo is all about. The impending doom, never knowing what's coming next. That's what needs to be there in a Diablo soundtrack and I didn't find much of it if any at all in the original soundtrack.
Oh man you just read my mind. +1 (If the website let's me upvote this, seems to be broken right now.)I think the WoW soundtrack was quite nice, and I'm not a fan of Whimseyshire, but I absolutely wholeheartedly to everything you said about D3. The OST is just too grandiose, too epic, too orchestral. I'm a lone soldier, but the music sometimes is a better fit for a huge army battle as in LotR. Some of the tunes in RoS are really nice, although some are again too epic.Sometimes less is more. Anyone played Fallout? The music was absolutely minimal and almost non-existent, but that was the point - the emptiness and tension it was creating is much more powerful than having to listen to 5 hours of drums (some D3V tunes).
I loved whimseyshire not for its musicality, but rather for it fitting so well with the theme. I mean think of it. You have this game set in a pretty grim dark fantasy with an amazing painted, almost watercolor-like, art style that you fight demons in, and in an instant you're transported to this new world where it looks as though possessed mythical creatures and things generally good are stuck in a child's fantasy land with all of its pretty colors and handrawn map. Which the music contrasts immeasurably, It's odd offkey, played backwards I'm pretty sure, and is generally very creepy when thought of in such a colorful setting. It really is a complete 180 of the real world that our heroes fight in, and it just made that level that much more awesome to me. And To everyone saying 'Leah' was the best track on D3V soundtrack I think it's because it's a very simple and melodic piece. There's not 50 drums a winds and a strings section all competing for attention. It's a piano + a few violins and It's extremely foreboding and odd in the sense that you feel down but as the song progresses you see the change in it's tone to more of a "FUCK THESE DEMONS LET'S MURDER THEM ALL". It also fits extremely well the first time you hear it during the Act 2 cinematic, where Leah goes from being down and pitiful to wanting revenge and bringing the hatred inside of her out. Overall from RoS's soundtrack I feel like this will be a pretty decent outing for Blizzard I think Dustin Browder finally caught on that epic isn't always what's needed in Diablo it's more about making you feel alone in a very big world and you are never goign to know what pop's out at you next.

TBH I have never really been a fan of the WoW soundtracks. here are definitely some tracks I like, such as Nightsong and I forgot the name of the other but it was made by Matt Uelemen. I always feel as if they're too grandiose and epic. They work in WoW but I've never been much of a fan of WoW. TBH I also thought D3's soundtrack was lackluster and influenced too much by Browder's WoW sounding epicness. 'The End of Days' is too grandiose for Diablo. If you look back at all Diablo songs from 1 and 2 including Hellfire they're all very singular pieces. Not much is taking the stage besides very eerie sounds accompanied by a very small amount of instruments which are mostly string instruments which had a slight twang to them. The only part of Diablo to have broken that mold was D2 LoD those songs were slightly more orchestral and epic but they still retained the eerie sense and vibe that all previous Diablo songs had to them.

and third: i dont like the paladin in d2. why play with someone i dont like right? so it was very hard to kill the ubers. and the torch helped you a lot with +3 to all skills and all resist. ofc there is a chance to drop for the char you are playing but everyting is chance like. anyways... go have a life man.
Please learn to act maturely if not, then please don't return to this site like ever... Honestly you children hide behind the screen of a computer and act all tough saying "Go get a life" because he's posted on this forum a lot yet you are here on this forum, right now, looking at his post and giving enough of a shit to attempt to insult him. which by the way failed for your information. So please as Jamoose said "grow up kid" learn some manners and until you do please don't come around these forums anymore. All you do is troll and annoy those of us that actually want to have civilized discussions.

Now to your actually points which I can no longer see, If you think Diablo 3 isn't a "Diablo" game then please get your head out of your ass and stop clouding your judgement with so much nostalgia. Diablo 2 really wasn't that balanced of a game, and D3 is strides ahead of it in terms of style, and playability. It's also closer to the original Diablo game you know the one that came before Diablo 2.
