posted a message on Best farming class on release?
There are two major considerations when creating a farming character:

    1. speed of runs.
    2. how strong/survivable can the class be with MF gear rather than high end equipment?

In d2 the sorc won both of these categories hands down (until later patches when teleporting hammerdins were the norm, ie when D2 did not resemble D2 anymore). As the sorc is a caster she was able to have sufficiently high damage even when using items which would not help skills/damage at all.

As well as having sufficiently strong spells when wearing MF gear the spells also packed a lot of punch in PVM which made MF runs very quick. +There was teleport for survivability.

I think that the wizard will take this role in D3.

posted a message on What made you decide to not buy Diablo 3 from recent news? (Poll)
Seeing a bunch of posts / threads a bout people disliking the AH or other things does not mean that the majority of people do not like the news.

People who are upset make the most noise.
It is a loud minority vs a quiet majority.
    Such is life.

I personally like what I saw and of course I am still planning on buying the game.

I quite like the real money AH move. Diablo is an old franchise, the fans who fell in love with the first two games have now grown up. Us guys who spent days upon days doing MF runs 10 years ago in d2 are now working full time and some of us are married and dont have time to dedicate much time anymore to get the maximum enjoyment out of the game.

If I were to buy items I would math rather it go through a bliz controlled system then through a corruption filled community like d2jsp or some dodgey website.

You don't need to buy anything, nor get an entire char 100% god mode within 2 days playing. You just play normally and you will progress always. Where's the fun of load your char with the best by just paying everything and not earning it playing it?

It all depends in what you are looking for from D3 as a game.

To me, the enjoyment of D2 came from my competative nature in PVP. I loved to come up with clever character builds and dueling strategies for the particular metagame. PVM did not really interest me nor was something that I got much enjoyment from tbh. It was simply something that I needed to do to sustain the PVP aspect (for leveling and MF). Having said that D2 was one of the best games I have ever played (including having played CS and SC:BW very competitively).

If I choose to follow the same path with D3 then I may not have much of an option but to pay for items. Considering that PVM does not interest me, with my working hours and other commitments by the time I have a fully loaded character ready for PVP I would have got over the game.

Personally, I wont even consider buying it. I am not a SW fan so I cannot see myself getting too into the game. Will it be a "threat" to diablo3? Probably not, the Diablo franchise has enough weight to sustain itself. Will it suck up nerds that otherwise may have become D3 players? probably :( ...

    Did anyone say Duriel yet?

I want him back. Same mechanics as in D2. Just make him stronger.

    :d3d:

Killing duriel was always the funniest boss kill in a full game. It usually resulted in Duriel chasing people around in circles in that tiny room for 10 minutes.

I think it would scare the crap out of me to see a mini-boss which we cannot actually kill the first time around. As in, it is actually part of the story that we need to run away, with a small section of the game dedicated to escaping from this boss. You would attack him to injure him and slow him down but he would slowly heal and regenerate himself and continue to come after you, like some sort of old horror movie. Then you are forced to battle him and it appears as though you have killed him and you move on with the game, just as you think that it is over BAAAMMMM he crashes through a wall and scares the crap out of you.

It could turn out that latter on a quest provides us with a special potion or weapon that needs to be used to kill him and we carry it around with us ready for our next encounter. So you are battling some fairly standard ghouls and out of nowhere BAMMM he crashes through a wall again and scares the crap out of you. You need time to switch weapons to the special weapon needed to defeat him so you must fight him and do enough damage to him such that he needs time to recover and regenerate, you quickly equip the special item and slay him just as he finishes regenerating from your previous beating.

I hope that the D2 feature of the local communication makes an appearance in D3. It was quite convenient to be able to communicate with people only on the screen but more importantly it allowed for a lot of silly things which just made the game that much more fun. Has anyone had a chance to see if this is in?

What state/city are you in? If you are in Sydney check out MSY and macotechnology.

I recently got myself a new machine (end of financial year bonus :D).

    2600k cooled by a h70
    16gb ripjaws
    crossfired 6850's
    intel SSD drive

I suggest you get yourself a nice gaming screen. I am running the BENQ 120hz 24" xL2410T. The 120hz is a big difference compared to a regular LCD screen. I used to do all of my gaming on a CRT (sony G520 @ 144hz) because I could not deal with the LCD delay but then again I was playing FPS games competitively.

My setup seems to run everything fine. The Crossfired 6850's seem to be performing very nicely for the price.

Regarding MAYA and other 3d programs: How big are the scenes/projects that you are working on? Is this your day job or is it just for a uni subject? I had to do some 3d modelling as a random elective that I chose during 1st year of university which was about 4 years ago. The dell workstations at the university computer labs ran MAYA with complicated scenes just fine, any gaming PC build today would totally destroy those workstations that we were working on.

Equinox, there certainly are high-sense pro FPS players. "Degrees-per-inch" is generally the term that people use to compare sensitivities. See this thread: http://www.gotfrag.com/tf2/forums/thread/422902/

Most pros use between 25-50 degrees per inch with 40+ being considered as highish sensitivity.

It really comes down to the level of control that you are looking for and your style of aim. Some players prefer to aim in flicking motions while others prefer to carefully track their target. Those who aim by tracking prefer low sense configurations while flickers prefer high sense. It also has a lot to do with your weapon of choice and how fast paced the game is. For example with CS the game is all about positioning and it is generally a fairly slow paced game so low sense tracking is the norm for aiming.

I'm lax. I was just curious as to why you were hatin' on Razer :P.

And the difference between 1ms and 8ms matters. It has nothing to do with human reaction.

That 7 MS is still time that your enemy could have. Assuming both of you shoot at the same time, and he has a 1000mhz mouse, and you have a 125 mhz mouse...well..assuming you both also have exactly 50 ping...it makes a difference.

It's a very marginal increase, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Actually just about any half decent mouse can have its polling rate increased to 500 or 1000 by hacking the driver (essential in FPS pro-gaming). All of these expensive gaming mice simply come with drivers that automatically increase the polling rate for you.

    See : http://wiki.quakeworld.nu/Howto_customise_mouse_polling_rate
You can google up some win7/vista instructions on how to hack it.

I have been using 400 dpi since I played CS competitively when I was still in high school (played between 12-17 years old from first beta release to retail 1.5 when I quit due to study commitments). I am 23 now so I have been using 400dpi for 10 years. Anything above that feels crazy to me.

A 3000dpi mouse would probably make me start to feel dizzy and sick lmao.

Omg 400? That's so ridiculously slow. Yeah you have precision...but I can turn so much quicker than you AND have precision. I replaced the 1000 DPI because it FELT slow, even on the desktop....I can't imagine 400.

Okay I set my naga to 400 dpi...and all I can say is......how?

I must do a lot of crack or something.

PS: I'm the best mouse for the job ;D

Well it really depends on your in-game sensitivity as well but yes it can be slow if you are not used to it. Of course for FPS games control and accuracy is everything. Especially in competative cs where if you miss your first shot you are as good as dead. When I used to play competative CS I actually had my Z and C keys bind to +left, and +right which would spin my quickly in that direction. So If I needed to do a quick 180 spin, i would not use my mouse but use my C key to turn quickly to the right.

Equinox in FPS gaming it is all about just having a predictable and balanced mouse in terms of its control. Which is where the IMO 1.1 is just about unrivaled. A lot of the new gaming mice have a bit of negative accel. Especially when run in their high DPI mode which is why the FPS guys run the mx518 at 400dpi.
