Aug 3, 2011CherubDown posted a message on Activision/Blizzard's August Financial Conference CallIt wasn't a complete waste. We know it will be a little longer before beta begins than everyone had speculated, but still within a month and a half. Edit: And we know they're still on for a 2011 release.Posted in: News

Because it feels awesome to finally make a good, viable build when you've failed a few times. It's rewarding.Quote from MasterFischer

From my vantage point, I'm not too fond of this approach. I feel that the original plan worked fine. I felt that the skill restriction of having only 7 skills was enough to make the player choose which of those skills to level hard. For example, if I was given 60 points to allot to 7 different skills, I'd put 40 of those points into 2 skills and the other 20 I'd find a way to fit them in so that they make sense. OR I'd find a way to allot all 60 points into 3 skills. That would be a part of the customization, which is what Diablo is supposed to be all about.
I'll have to play the game to find out if I like the system, but as it stands from my point of view, it doesn't feel like you can actually create a bad build - which I think bad.
Why ? Why is it bad, not being able to create a bad build?
I simply cannot understand this argument.I simply cannot. Is it fun for you, failing everytime with a build? Is it fun for you having to restart and rewind everything, all the time, because you choose poorly, and because the design system is flawed?
Most people will probaly agree that this isn't a whole lot of fun. Part of what made Diablo 2 bad, was exactly the way, that bads builds were really bad, and that locking yourself into this, made the game even more skewed in a weird way.
You said u wanted to make all skill points into 3 skills, yet you had to choose from 7? That doesn't make any sense to me. Having only 3 skills out of 25 or whatever, is a bad system design.
6 skills is a perfect nr cos blizzard have internal information about skills that you don't.

Aug 2, 2011CherubDown posted a message on Runic Revision?Posted in: News
I see where you're coming from, but I do think they need to add a little bit more complexity to the rune system. As it stands now (or before.. whatever), all you have to do is get a certain level rune to drop and you're good until the next level. Without any sort of random element, the rune system is "Oh, yeah, I have a Level 7 Crimson rune and I never have to upgrade again", which is something I think they want to avoid. Runes won't amount to anything if there is nothing special about them.Quote from Doomscream
I didn't think that in a Diablo game, there might be something like too much customization. It the case with runes, this gets a little bit over the top. It will be a pain a real pain to find the rune with the right modifier, and with the right amount... In my opinion it will just get too overwhelming.

Aug 2, 2011CherubDown posted a message on The Auction House ExplainedPhrozenDragon, can I thank you for taking the time to write this? I tried to explain this to people earlier on the forum and it was completely overlooked, or worse, rejected as wrong. Especially this part:Posted in: News
Thank you again. +1!!!!It doesn't matter which AH you end up using anyway
What did you say? Each piece of gold dropped will be worth a certain amount of real money? Not only does this mean that you are tecnically making money as you play, it also means that whether you use the gold AH or the cash AH will be irrelevant. The concept is called Arbitrage, and for those of you not accustomed to economics I'll explain how it works.
Let's say that I find a legendary axe that I don't need and thus want to sell. I can either sell it for gold or e-balance. Looking in the AH, I see that there are incidentally ten axes, five in each AH, currently up for sale: five go for 2000g and the other five for $20. But I decide to see what gold sells for, and I quickly see that 200g costs $1 in the cash AH. Afterwards I proceed to sell my legendary axe for $19, which the sold for gold will be 19*200=3,800g
That's arbitrage, the possibility to profit due to price imbalances in different markets. Even if I didn't want cash, it's still a better option for me to use the cash AH under these circumstances, since it gives me more gold. The next thing I do is naturaly to buy the other five legendary axes for 2,000g each, sell them for $19 again, essentially giving me 5*(3,800-2,000)=9,000g profit without having killed a single monster.
This will of course not last, since eventually other people will figure out that the legendary axe is underpriced in the gold AH and correctly adjust their prices. I probably couldn't even have sold those five axes for $19 again, since I essentially bombed the market by doubling the supply of those axes. But that is exactly the point. This kind of equilization will happen continuously across all different items for sale in the two markets, and will work to create a stable exchange rate between gold and $. And when that has happened, it won't really matter which of them you decide to trade in. Even if you consider yourself a purist and never so much as look at the cash AH, the prices you see for items there should be same as those seen in the cash AH.
Perfect equilibrium is generally upset by various factors such as transportation costs, taxes, varying legislations between markets, expiration dates on products etc. In the future Diablo economy many of these are removed: the the flat fees applied to purchases are a transaction cost and will generate some imbalances between the markets, but that's about it. In the end, it will matter little which one you actually use. -

Jul 11, 2011CherubDown posted a message on DiabloCast XVII - Hardcore Is Too HardcoreHmmm. You sure it would be easy? I mean preparing a demo takes a lot of work. It's not just a matter of slapping an area together and using a character select screen. Especially for Blizzard.Posted in: News
Edit: Furthermore, since they're in "crunch mode", I'd think they'd be wanting to spend all their efforts on the end product. Just my thoughts though.
Edit2: Also, since originally there was no mention of Diablo even being at Gamescom for a while, makes me feel like they're really (in a non-Blizzard-like fashion) throwing the build they have in there. -
Jul 11, 2011CherubDown posted a message on DiabloCast XVII - Hardcore Is Too HardcoreSixen, I think you have a good point about the beta not being released before Gamescom because of the reason you mentioned. However, it's possible they're doing it that way because the beta client starts your character at level 1 and is not geared toward a demo. So the beta might not be a great demo so much.Posted in: News

Jul 8, 2011CherubDown posted a message on ALTernate Styles of LootingWhy can't we pick Toggle + /nopickup? It's my option.Posted in: News
EDIT: In case anyone was wondering, the "/nopickup" feature made it so you couldn't pick up items unless you had ALT selected. This was to ensure you didn't accidentally fill up your inventory with garbage you didn't want. -
Jul 3, 2011CherubDown posted a message on The Future of Item SellingOphion, you messed up my post! No worries, it's not a big deal.Posted in: News
All I'm saying is, I believe being able to purchase items from an official store does the following:
1. Has an impact on the economy in some way.
2. Makes players look cool because they bought some item from the Blizzard store (when that item could have been an in-game-only item where that person would have to earn that prize).
3. Make Blizzard look like a buncha sleezy basterds.
I don't like it. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

How much armor do you have?

Great explanation. +1
I'm having the same issue where I'm really undercutting my sales, but they're just not selling. I think point 1 is probably the most important reason.
Btw, there's a subforum for this kind of discussion: http://www.diablofans.com/forum/82-trading/

This is not true, every class needs more armor in Inferno difficulty. It may not be a stat that you seek out in the AH, but it's still very useful to have. That's why some of the best items in the game come with all 4 stats - Str, Dex, Int, and Vit and hopefully a + to Armor

About legendaries not being as powerful as blues and rares: This isn't necessarily true, it just means that you haven't rolled one with increased damage.

Also, this should go in the barbarian subforum: http://www.diablofans.com/forum/46-barbarian-bastions-keep/

Seriously, that's some cheap ass design. Really wish Blue had tested this kind of stuff out a little more.
