posted a message on The Bosses
Didn't blizz state bosses would be more involved, and that the game would have a stronger storyline?

Methinks that the end-end bosses will be somewhat similar to a wow raid boss, in that we'll need to do positioning, movement, avoid fire, use many skills (albeit as a gimmick no doubt), etc etc

Wizard or Barb. I'm thinking Witch Doctor will have the issue of being extremely gear dependent, or just ultimately weaker than other classes, somewhat like the Necro was at certain times.

If I were to play hardcore, I'd consider a witch doctor though, they seem like they'll have many more tools for survival than others.

posted a message on In-Game Trading
The excitement of trading in Diablo 2 (and even moreso in Diablo 1 before the hacks became commonplace) was incredible.
-Is he going to use some script to swap that awesome item with a similar graphic junk one before I click "ok"?
-Oh man I can't believe this guy just traded me that, what a sucker!

It had it's highs and lows but it really gave you that feeling of back alley black market trading (without the actual danger of being banned like on a 3rd party RM site).

It's one of those nostalgia things that in the end is *probably* better not to have exist.

As far as servers only allowing 4 players max...ugh. Another example of games regressing from what they used to be. (See RPG's and FPS's for better examples)

posted a message on Twinking, and low level alts, alternate styles of play
I was posting in a replayability thread, and I had thought about one of the sub-gameplay behaviors that is popular in many games.

Twinking / Low level pvp brackets / alts

Do you think these will still exist?
Yes, but it'll be even more niche than before
Do you think the AH will kill the 'fun' of this? (note I said AH in general not just RM)
Somewhat, but in wow/D2 it really wasn't difficult to attain the "best in slot" for low levels, as the stuff was typical very common. There were a few items that were extremely rare and desirable in wow, which I think the AH of Diablo itself will reduce similarly, but all in all it'll be the same as without it.

Will blizzard have a way of turning off XP gain? I doubt it unfortunately. This makes the whole concept harder to achieve (and therefore even more niche)

What other sub-gameplay / sub-genre / alternate gameplay styles did you enjoy in previous games ?
Naked runs were always fun, Also "only use X skill" runs. These of course were self mediated, but when playing with friends was a good way to keep the game interesting when you didn't feel like playing the game "normally".

    What are your thoughts ?

Yeah i'd rather have the game this year and then have them add stuff later and not charge us for it piece by piece!

    Fixed that for you.

posted a message on 16 armor tiers? endgame? how?
The ladder is for hardcore players. In "hardcore" once you die, your character is deleted. So there are competitive "ladders" for people that level hardcore characters and then after level cap they tally experience earned (i think that's how they ranked the top end, i forget actually). "Hardcore" diablo 2 really was hardcore. Makes EVERY moment of the game feel like the most intense moments of your life.

edit: there were normal and hardcore ladders, but the same idea. Each ladder and "season" was with a fresh character, you raced to max rank.

So can you start in normal? Then unlock etc inferno when you hit max level?
If not, when you start normal will you then miss out on the best gear that is obtainable in inferno mode?

Wow, you never played D2 at all did you? Anyways, the basic structure was that everyone starts on normal and you beat the game by say level 40 (i forget the actual numbers from D2 for each difficulty but you get the idea). You then unlock nightmare mode, and play the game over again, but the monsters start around that level (~35ish) and by the time you beat nightmare you should be level 55-60ish. You then unlock Hell mode and the cycle repeats, wherein you finished at around level 70-75ish. Then you just farmed Hell mode Act3-5 over and over until you were level 99.

Diablo 3 is likely going to have the same basic format, but I'm expecting that you'll hit the level cap by the end of Hell without needing to do any crazy grinding (do all the main storyline quests + 50% of the optional ones). They want to get away from the need for players to grind over and over just to hit level cap.

I'm posting educated guesses and opinions about what I think it'll be like, you're not going to find much more information that what is posted in all the forum stickies, such as this one:
    http://www.diablofans.com/topic/18994-diablo-iii-faqs/

And from some of the more popular threads labeled "leak?" "New info" "Leaked interview" etc etc. Try the search function or google and filter by date?

And even then, information that people have is likely outdated, and a good bit of the game is still being tweaked/changed, so it could end up being very wrong.

Where and how do you think you will be able to obtain the tier 14-16?
Will there be diffrent zones? duengeons and bosses? Or is it all dependant on luck in the open field?

Well supposedly there are four difficulties Normal, Nightmare, Hell, Inferno (the inferno info was from a leak of some kind, there's a whole big thread about it on here somewhere). If this ends up being true, I think Inferno won't be unlocked until you are at level cap; and that tier 15-16 will only be available there. Tier 14 will likely be the "top end" for Hell mode, but much more reliably found in Inferno.

This is all of course assuming that Inferno is a real difficulty, that it sticks to the normal formula of "same but harder", and that there are in fact 4 difficulties. So yeah, long stretch but definitely possible.

    edit:
Please, for the love of god, don't turn this into the 1001st thread about the auction house.

This ^^^. I'm ferociously against the RMAH, but there is a place for it (not this thread).

posted a message on 16 armor tiers? endgame? how?
    Simple:
2 armor tiers for every 10 levels = 12 tiers (though not perfectly balanced as such)
    Max rank (60) = remaining 4 tiers

Tiers will have very minor stat differences between one another, but looking at 2-3 tiers apart they will be significant.

Rank 40-59 will likely have as many tiers as 1-40, as you will already have most of your skill sets already and the only thing left is gear. Lower tier (leveling Tiers 1-6) gear will be boring and likely not worth the effort to get, the mid tier (leveling Tiers 7-9) gear will have a couple of interesting things, and will highlight certain skills as a means of teaching players unique ways of using those skills. The high tier (leveling tiers 10-12) sets will be straight stats with cool bonuses. The initial rank 60 tier set (Tier 13) will be a small upgrade over the last leveling set, but will have more interesting bonuses. Everything from there on up (Tier 14-16)will be about incremental gain, and certain sets will have very dramatic bonuses that will alter people's gameplay style significantly.

The first major content patch will have "half" tiers with stuff that fits in a "12.5" or 13.5" level of stats/bonuses.

This is all just my opinion and educated guess, but it fits Blizzard's style for doing tiers. I think that they will deviate from the old D2 style of each "set" being just a unique version of whatever the type of armor is for that level range (like Curiass, breastplate, Hauberk etc) and instead do it in a style like WoW. Either that or it will be like D2 for the lower tiers and more like Wow for the upper tiers.

slightly off topic, but I feel like it's an extremely stupid thing to be running a hacked version of something that EVERYTHING you run on your computer is dependent upon. Not to mention that the pirated version you have could be loaded with nice little root kits that are quietly sending your data to whomever that no anti-virus on the planet will be able to detect...

posted a message on The Banner System
The only place banners will have any meaning is with hardcore players. A HC player that accomplished some extremely hard achievement probably deserves some recognition. Some guy that wiped 1000x to achieve it means nothing. And same goes for the fact that in HC there will be no "pay to win" players.

Hardcore is where the real game will be...
