Im hoping there will be a passive that gives you some bonus while at full spirit (like ther barb has). Doesnt matter much what it is. So if all you wanna do is spam combo strikes you could actually get a bonus from it.

posted a message on Skill Animation Speed
Ok, so pre patch 5 Fists of Thunder had a noticable faster skill animation than the other generators available in the beta. After watching a beta video i really dont see any difference in skill animation speed anymore. So it seems to me that the skill animation speeds have been standarized, which would make sense. Anyone can confirm/deny this?

The damage and effects of Fists of Thunder and its runes were buffed in patch 5, which could be meant to balance the slower animations.

Seems like a solid build. Dont think you will have problems with spirit generation if you dont uveruse dash, since the 2 other spenders have significant cooldowns. Was about to write that having both Seven Sided Strike and Wave of Light seemed a little overkill, but since they both have major cooldowns they kind of suplement each other.

I really like the idea of a ranged monk. Some skills already support this (summons, Inner Circle and Hand Of Ytar).
A shuriken skill (maybe even as a generator) would be a nice addition.

posted a message on Did they forget to give the Monk Martial Arts skills?
I think the idea was to have him as a martial artist WITH holy powers (drawn from eastern tradition and religion).

Generators = martial arts, spenders = holy powers/martial arts (Dashing Strike and Tempest Rush are martial arts if you ask me). Some of the combo spenders look very boring (Blinding Flash and Breath of Heaven) while the rest i think look atleast ok and have some interesting uses (tho that bell/pillar should be changed). Just pick the skills you like :)

A bit curios why you think the combos are shallow. While i agree some variation is needed in the first and second strike effects, there are many ways to combine them into different play styles, even more when you combine them with the other skills.

I havent played the beta myself so i cant say how it feels to play him. But from what i have seen and heard the monk seems really fun to play and not underwhelming at all.

posted a message on What generators will you use?
I like the combo generators much more than the spenders, so the builds i come up with usually revolves around them. At the moment im looking at this build using 3 generators:

It Starts with Fists of Thunder (Crimson Rune) for nice damage and mobility. The second strike is The Way of the Hundred Fists (Obsidian Rune) and Sweeping Winds (Obsdian Rune) as the third. With this build i will also use Mantra of Retribution (Indigo Rune).

So the idea is to get off as many cyclones as possible. Blazing Fists and Transgression should get me some superfast attacks and hopefully it will look pretty badass.

I really like Tempest Rush, but i have problems finding a spot for it in builds, mostly because i like to use combo generators more than spenders.

Tho one thing i thought of would be to use it as a way to replenish life when low on hp by adding mantra of healing instead of mantra of conviction. This with Transcendense and obsidian rune into Tempest Rush (for 50% damage reduction) should allow you to move around dealing damage and healing at the same time (and you can pick up healing globes too)

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#T....g!Y!c....Z

Not so sure about golden rune in Tempest Rune when using Transcendense. The idea of that passive is kind of to use spirit (and generate) as fast as possible. Some other nice options to rune Tempest Rush with.

I really dont understand the hate on the meleewiz. What is it you if its possible to play as a melee wizard, even at the highest difficulties? Noone are forcing you to do the same, or even play with anyone that does it. Anything to put variety and different ways to play into the game imo.

I find it odd that you cant cast spells whilst holding a weapon. Seems like characters who want to weild weapons and cast some spells will have a hard time unequipping/equipping. Unless shouts cover all sorts of magic - damage, controll, buff, debuff, heal etc.

Btw are there any other ranged weapons aside from bow? I.e xbow or thrown?

You can have a spell in one hand and a weapon in the other. I think the only ranged weapon is bow.

Oh yeah, I've got another question. Does anyone know if there's going to be a hide helmet option or something? I'm gonna be a sad panda if I can't see my bengal tiger colored Khajiit.

It looks like there is no hide helmet option. Thats why many roleplayers dont like the armor perks... because you need a full set of armor for the most talents to work. Especially as assassin/thieve I would just use a cloth hood and not a lether/glass helmet. But yeah... I'll start as a Orc Berserker... so no need for hiding my helmet... because an Orc in full heavy armor looks way to good to hide parts of the armor.

Anyone else already planed his perks?^^ http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1250628-layout-of-perk-trees-2/

    Heavy Armour: Juggernaut (5) + Well Fitted (1) + Tower of Strength (1) + Fists of Steel (1) + Cushioned (1) + Conditioning (1) = 10

    Smithing: Steal (1) + Arcane Blacksmith (1) + Dwarven Smithing (1) + Orcish Smithing (1) + Ebony Smithing (1) + Daedric Smithing (1) + Dragon Armour Smithing (1) = 7

    Enchanting: Enchanter (5) + Insightful Enchanter (1) + Corpus Enchanter (1) + Extra Effect (1) = 8

    One Handed: Armsman (5) + Hack n Slash (3) + Dual Fury (2) + Dual Savagery (1) + Fightning Stance (1) + Critical Charge (1) = 13

    Archery: Overdraw (5) + Eagle Eye (1) + Powershot (1) + Quick Shot (1) + Bullseye (1) = 9

    Overall = 47

They always say that the "softcap" is at ~lvl50 so I have 3 more Perks to spend... but I'm not sure what to choose maybe Steady Hands for Archery... but I guess thats not needed. In the end I will spend them on speech for better trading.

The funny thing is, I tried to plan an Assassin/Thieve and they need way to many Perks <_< pure Warrior is fine... and I guess pure Mage is ok to, but as an Assassin/Thieve you still need points in the Combat Skills (Bow/One-Handed) and so you have less perks for your thieving/assassination talents :( also Sneak looks like you need all the perks if you want to play an Assassin... thats 13 points that are needed <_< (but you get things like 15x Backstab dmg with Daggers Oo)

Edit: Note that the softcap is just that... a "soft" cap. The max lvl is ~lvl 75 so if you plan to get all your Skills to 100 you get way more Perks. Bethesda only said that after lvl50 you will likely have beaten the game and you will be so powerful that there isnt really anything to do. But then again... why not max your char... just for the fun of it.

Thanks for the link to the perks!

I always liked fighter style characters with a little twist, so i will go for some stealth using an axe and alteration skills (paralyze and armors), supported by light armor and alchemy.

    One Handed: (12): Armsman (5) + Hack And Slash (3) + Fighting Stance (1) + Savage Strike (1) + Critical Charge (1) + Paralyzing Strike (1).

    Alteration (10): Novice Alteration (1) + Alteration Dual Casting (1) + Apperentice Alteration (1) + Magic Resistance (3) + Adept Alteration (1) + Stability (1) + Expert Alteration (1) + Master Alteration (1).

    Light Armor (10): Agile Defender (5) + Custom Fit (1) + Unhindered (1) + Matching Set (1) + Wind Walker (1) + Deft Movement(1)

    Sneak (7): Stealth (5) + Backstab (1) + Muffled Movement (1).

    Alchemy (11): Alchemist (5) + Physician (1) + Poisoner (1) + Consentrated Poison (1) + Green Thumb (1) + Snake Blood (1) + Purity (1).

Which perfectly adds up to 50.

I remember them saying they are working on making the skill system even better because they are waiting for other things to finish, so its not what keeps delaying the game. The Skill system they had was pretty much ready for launch.

Dont compare this game to wow. If you pick this skill you are giving it up for something else. Even in pvp being reborn with 35% health doesnt have to mean much in certain situations. Also it has a very long cooldown. It only gives you options on how to make your character.

No I have to compare it to WoW since they have taken many mechanics/abilities from WoW. this is a terrible ability that people will abuse. People will cheat death then go invulnerable.

First of all diablo and wow are two different games, focusing on different things (viable vs optimized). In diablo its about having fun and trying different things without being penalized for it.

Second of all they said they are balancing the game for pve, but they might add some tweaks for pvp if it turns out to be too imbalanced. With diablo pvp being so fast paced you could be better off taking another passive that helps you all the time instead of a passive that helps once every 90th second. (Such as better defense, gain health from using spirit or better resistance)
