...Yet people aren't calling for a boycott on these companies. Why? Because it would be an inconvenience. Moving domains is easy. Giving up tv, movies, books, sports, etc is apparently quite a bit harder...

There are people out there who have called for boycotts on buying new forms of media and other things you listed. It's not the majority movement but there are people out there doing it.

The cool thing is that it doesn't need to be done for long to send the message to those companies and Washington.

And BTW, there is no "right way" for SOPA or anything remotely like it to be done even If you're talking about stopping piracy. That's a whole other story though.

I'm looking to upgrade my current PC (q6600 processor, 9800gt 512mb video card, 4gb ram) and get these components, but I don't know which mobo to go with....

    CPU - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819115072
    Fan - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835118223
    RAM - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231468
    Video Card - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130593

    CPU - perfect
Fan - I've heard the cooler is good, but can be loud. Check out the CoolerMaster 212 Plus http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835103065
It'll get your processor to 4.5 GHz easily. And it's quiet and a bit cheaper.
RAM - I'd probably go with 1600MHz. You just won't notice the difference with anything higher and it'll save you a bit of cash http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231314
GPU - And then you can put that extra cash into a slightly better video card
    http://www.newegg.co...&Tpk=asus%20570
Both are 570s, but the Asus will be quieter and slightly faster.
If you were looking to save a bit more money yet not sacrifice much performance, you could go with an AMD 6950 or an Nvidia 560Ti. Of course they aren't QUITE as good as the 570, but are close. And it'll save you $80-$100, depending upon the brand, model, etc. I don't want to talk you out of the 570, because it's a great card. Just sharing what I thought through before I purchased my card. I ended up getting an MSI 6950, simply because I don't play THAT many computer games, and the ones I do aren't very GPU taxing (WoW, D3, SC2, Aoe3, etc etc).

PSU - you didn't mention what power supply you have. It may be something you'll want to upgrade as well, given the higher power requirements. As long as you have a good 650W or higher you'll be fine.

Edit: I saw this (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131791) motherboard, which looks like it's bad ass, but it's more than I wanted to spend. *frowny face*

Ha! Yikes. Check out that Asus I linked to earlier http://www.newegg.co...8-v+pro&x=0&y=0
Solid board, will let you overclock the i5 and, if you so choose, will work with the Ivy Bridge processors. At this point it should come with the required bios version of at least 0902 for the Ivy.

You could also go with a Gen3 version http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131790
But really the only difference between the two (aside from price) is the Gen3 supports PCI-Express 3.0. But I don't foresee GPU bandwidth being a problem for quite some time. So spending the extra $40 would be a personal choice.

I didn't mention the PSU because I've already got this http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817139006 that I bought maybe 6 months ago.

What about this fan (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835103046)? Or is it just overkill. The other one you linked looks pretty good too, just figured I'd ask.

If I won't be able to tell the difference between the 2133 and the 1600 RAM, then I'll go with this (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231358). I wanted 12gigs of RAM anyways, but the 2133 stuff was a lil' too expensive for 3x 4gig sticks.

The EVGA card (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130593) has a better rating than the ASUS one (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814121432). Also, people are commenting that the ASUS 5 series cards are having issues when it comes to overclocking. I'm not really sure which to go with... :/

This mobo (http://www.newegg.co...#scrollFullInfo) looks pretty good. Wish it was about $50 less (I know the other board is like $30 less, but it's open box & I don't trust that).

Ok, sorry for the giant quote but I wanted to touch on everything.

    CPU
Excellent CPU choice, althought if you're not really on a restricted budget the i7 2600k is worth 100 more bucks (I'm glad I decided to do it when I was looking at the i5) and it's more "futureproof" than the i5 due to hyperthreading.

    COOLING
For the Heatsink/Fan, you're already looking to spend around 50 bucks (close to it anyway) it seems so I recommend you go for the best Heatsink/Fan out there right now.

    http://www.frostytec...p5heatsinks.cfm

#1 on that list, it's amazing and has been consistantly #1 on that list for a year and it only costs like 50-60 bucks. Downside is it's hard to find. Here is a list of good sites that carry it. I got my from PerformancePCs.com but they are sold out ATM...http://www.frostytech.com/permalink.cfm?NewsID=78062

Getting the right cooling system will allow you to OC your i5 (or 7 :)) to 30%+ with really good temps and the HUGE increases in performance is worth it (my i7 is OC'd to 4.7GHz on that Heatsink I showed you and it idles under 40 celsius.

    RAM
Superfula is correct when he says to stick with 1600MHz RAM. GSkill is a great choice and the RAM you picked is awesome.

    GPU
Out of those 2, I would go with the EVGA card.

    MOTHERBOARD
When it comes to the motherboard, I would look at P67 motherboards only unless you plan on using Intel QuickSync, SSD Caching, and the intergrated CPU graphics (the H67 feature). Those features are what separates Z68 from P67 and you'll save yourself 70-40 bucks depending on the P67 board you choose.

Choose one from here ---> http://www.newegg.co...ING&PageSize=20

I personally have an ASRock Extreme4 Gen3. Picked it after looking at a few motherboard "roundup" reviews. It had really good SATA 6GB performance, excellent temps and power consumption scores. The ASUS boards on there are good too though.

    Why the Phenom??!

i5 2500k if you want value and power or i7 if you want straight power. Yeah it's 319 bucks but unless you plan on building another computer in 2 years might as well not skimp on the CPU especially since you're not skimping on the GPU.

    i7 2600k - $320

ASRock P67 Extreme4 Gen3 - $150 (ASUS has a good one too but power consumption/temperature/and SATA speed got good reviews on this thing).

    GTX 570 - $350

GSkill RAM, great choice - $60

Pretty good PSU, I would look for something at least 80 Plus BRONZE and fully modular but it's still a good PSU you picked - $120

That ADATA SSD isn't bad but the Corsair Force 3 is much better for only $35 more. It has much better 4k Random Write speed which is the key measurement to look at when comparing SSDs (along with IOPS which it is also much better than that ADATA ). - $195
    www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233191&Tpk=Corsair Force GT

You can stick with your case if you don't plan to OC (the i7 can OC 20+% on stock heatsink) or go with the Antec DF-85 ($160) or the Cooler Master HAF X ($200) If you want room and awesome airflow. The DF-85 is cheaper and gets cooler temps because the airflow is a little better but the HAF X is larger but that doesn't seem to be a huge concern for you. Both cases allow you to run your wires behind the motherboard plate for better airflow and a better look.

So not counting the cases I mentioned, my recommended rig is $1195 dollars which is only $166 dollars more for a MUCH, MUCH better machine. Not a little better, not kind of better...MUCH better.

Unless you are really restricted due to budget (or simply don't care about having the best stuff and want to save 200 dollars), I would HIGHLY recommend you throw the 200 extra dollars in and make these changes in order to make a killer machine that will last for 4-5 years (with a GPU upgrade along the way to stay super powerful with future games).

    This definitely sucks.

More stalling for time while the GRB decides on the RMAH. I wish Blizzard would just tell us like they did on the Korean Bnet site.

At this point, they owe us a lot more transparency about what's going on instead of "oh, we can't release yet? give them another contest/artwork/artisan page update/insignificant news/etc".

    Quote from BANT4M

I think that Blizzard is regretting the fact that they initially claimed Christmas 2011. If feels like they were overly ambitious and now they are trying to pacify us by throwing these little games at us every week or so to make up for the fact that they are not as close to release as they thought.

The game is ready, the RMAH is not. Technically the RMAH is legal in Korea but the GRB is still taking it's time deliberating on it. Blizzard most likely didn't account for this.

Looking at the timeline of events, all these announcements and delays (the book of cain) happen right around when something happens with the GRB stuff.

Based on people I know I always though that the longer you work out the shorter period of time your soreness lasts. Completely NOT getting sore is wrong, but you should be able to recover quicker the more experienced you are, no matter what. At least that's what I have heard from people who have been body building for 10 years or so.

Excellent post though. I know my shit pretty well too (partly from having a ridiculously awesome body building friend that has competed and has recently started an MMA career) and everything you wrote is great advice.

posted a message on Beta: I just do not get this game at all
    Quote from johnnysd

Diablo III is not a Diablo game in my opinion. Basically all RPG elements have been completely removed. Stats auto level...
Auto-attributes is 100% the same thing as Diablo 2 since everyone did the same thing with their attributes anyway (there was the right way and then a bunch of wrong ways to allocate them). You had the illusion of choice.

    Quote from johnnysd
...all skills open to the player and level automatically...[]...From what I can see, the only RPG element left is a choice of 3 total passive skills you get over the complete lifespan of you character...
You say the only choice is between 3 passives but what about choosing what 6 skills to use and then what Runes to put in them? The build choices are immense and blow away any "customization" (in quotations because there was almost none of that) in D2.

    Quote from johnnysd
...You have to go to a completely ridiculous "shrine" to swap out skills...
The shrine solves a key problem. There are plenty of shrines along the way scattered throughout important parts of the world, not just towns.

Because of that, the shrine helps give you that dedicated to your build feeling (which you talk about later as a good thing about D2) without punishing people for experimenting with the immense amount of choices in builds.

    Quote from johnnysd
For every choice you made you gave something up. Each character you played was ultimately unique, even if eventually there were so called "cookie-cuter" specs. You were a Furyzon, not a Bowazon and could never be. If you decided that you wanted a bow wielder you made one, and the roguelike features made it FUN to develop a new character. The horrible skill system that has basically infinite respecs kills that.
Completely getting rid of respecs is harsh in a game where there are SOOOO MANY CHOICES and builds. In D2 it KIND OF makes sense since there were like 3 builds for a class that were good so you knew before hand what you were getting into (wow, that sounds like a game with lots of choice and customization!!! <_<)

But with D3, the bulk of the game is experimenting and playing with tons of new combinations. That is the heart (the 2nd heart, the first is the loot game just like D2) of the game. Being able to switch is a basic fundamental to a system that allows so much diversity.

The shrine also helps you "lock in" to a build more so people will be more dedicated to their builds than you think (which is weird because you are against the shrine but it is in favor of what you like about D2). There will just be more diversity among those builds in D3 compared to D2, which is a GREAT thing.

    TL:DR
    Quote from johnnysd

    Choice mattered in Diablo II.
But there were much, much, much, much, much less choices to make in D2 when compared to D3. Which makes the few that mattered not really matter enough to compare to D3 in any way. For specifics read the whole post.

Bottom line - I will take build diversity and experimentation and all kinds of awesome skill/rune combinations with the ability to respec (D3) over 3 cookie cutter builds per class without the ability to respec (D2).

After not playing World of Warcraft for months, I logged in last week to kind of check out patch 4.3. I was then shocked when I found out that Deathwing (The last boss in the last dungeon of WoW Cataclysm) had already been defeated in the first week. Of course I initially think they made the encounters of said dungeon slightly too easy, and the hardcore raiding guilds must of done it. Nope! Turns out just about every smuck who can tie his shoes has already killed Deathwing, if he actually tried in the slightest! My shock has now turned to an extreme disgust of what has happened to this game.

The kills are in NORMAL MODE...aka EASY mode. Most of them are actually in the NEW raiding mode, LFR, which is even EASIER than NORMAL mode because it's for PUG raids.

HARD MODES are akin to vanilla raids. So you're not comparing apples to apples at all. Is this all new info to you?

The ONLY difference these days in WoW is that casual players can SEE the content and kill it. They don't have access to the best gear like the people who kill the HARD modes so what does it matter? It makes perfect sense to allow everyone a chance at seeing content that Blizzard works hard on.

HEROIC MODE is where the prestige is at and it's all that should matter to someone like you (based off your post). BTW, the raids these days are much more in depth and usually more difficult (for the right reasons unlike BC "gear checks" and "class checks").

So, there is no problem at all.

The encounters were grueling, and just getting one boss fight down could take weeks of practice, and often required specialized gear. A single mistake by any of the 40 people in the raid could very easily wipe the entire group, and force you to reset.

It still happens. HEROIC Ragnaros was one of the most difficult bosses the game has ever had. It did take weeks for people to kill him. Like I said, you're not comparing apples to apples. The Heroic kills are the kills you should be looking into, those are the raids that are like the old raids back in the day.

    Quote from Dolaiim

I love the fact that Blizzard is giving us this kind of information and insight into their design process. I'm also stoked that it lends more credence to my argument that they're not feature code complete. However, I'm then saddened that they're not feature code complete.

They said it may not get it into the game. There is no "feature coding" left that will hold back the game (they can change their minds of course but that's how it is as of now). They are simply using the time they have to polish and bug squash to also do some other things that can maybe be finished by release.

This is backed up by what Jay always says about the Rune System. Yeah they are playing around with it a lot but it's not why the game isn't out yet. If they still haven't created a perfect Rune System by release they will go with the original idea.

    Quote from Dolaiim
As for the tooltip debate, it's a tooltip. It should be simple and basic. If the mathletes want to crunch numbers, they can do it on a notepad, their second monitor, or alt-tab. Totally agree with Bliz on this one.

They didn't really say that. They don't want us to have to alt tab. The post seemed contradicting to me. I don't see why they can't have a 3rd tooltip option though to keep the tooltips the way they are now (Extreme?), then a Normal, then a Simplified.

Without any math or "number crunching" it's just numbers getting bigger. At that point it becomes pointless to look at them or even have them. You need a certain amount of theorycrafting built into the game, even if you don't think of yourself as a theorycrafter, you use it all the time. Without it, the RPG element completely disappears or at least becomes hollow and pointless when all there is to do is simply watch the numbers get bigger without ways to think about how to make them bigger.

But even if they info isn't in the game, as long as it comes from Blizzard themselves I personally won't mind alt tabbing to look at a Blizzard endorsed and created "wiki" type page with tons of math and precise info on my skills.

Same thing happened on Rift forums when people asked for meters or other things that are QUALITY OF LIFE issues or just fun things to analyze to know what the heck is going on.

Right now, there are people saying "go back to WoW" to people on SW:TOR forums who want a COMBAT LOG. A freakin' COMBAT LOG!!! There's nothing wrong or "wowish" about a combat log, it's a tool some people use to gain more information / knowledge...

I guess this got lost in my giant post.

    5-8 Damage
    1.3 Attacks Per Second
    8.45 DPS

    3-7 Damage
    2 Attacks Per Second
    10 DPS

The 2nd weapon is better. DPS should be at the top. This is why. Changing it is bad. Newbies will look at the damage range and think it matters the most.

    Quote from Calavera666

And about the estimated changes window... you have your equipped item box right next to the one you're currently pointing. I think it's an information overload.
When items have 10+ stats/affixes the change window will be indispensable. Why sit there and do the math back and forth between the 2 tooltips?

    Quote from Calavera666

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found the "estimated changes" as a stupid feature :D

They wanted us NOT to make cookie cutter build and NOT to make obvious characters, and as the beta evolves, it starts to feel like having a development team member pointing at the right choices over your shoulder..

You may not be the only one but you're definitely in a minute minority.

How does showing something that you could easily see for yourself feel like a dev telling you what to do? That's hogwash. All that is happening is the information you already have access to is being consolidated to improve quality of life. It's so you don't have to open your character sheet while hovering over 2 items back and forth all while watching the stats on your sheet change for each one to determine what it's doing.

It's extremely valuable to have all the information I need in 1 place. You're complaining about space but taking that away just means having to open up other windows.

Anyway, if it's anything like WoW, it will be an option you can turn on and off.

The tooltips are great as they are. They will always be big and there's nothing wrong with it, Who cares about the screen size? When you're looking at items, you're looking at items, not looking at the screen behind them. We're talking about a very tiny difference also when comparing your style to the original. And when items get more affixes, it won't matter much anymore.

Also, DPS is more important than the damage range, so switching it doesn't help anything.

    5-8 Damage
    1.3 Attacks Per Second
    8.45 DPS

    3-7 Damage
    2 Attacks Per Second
    10 DPS

If a newbie didn't understand DPS well enough to look into it while looking at your tooltip style, he would think that the first one is better. It's not. You would do more overall damage with the 2nd weapon. DPS should stay where it is.

    Quote from Calavera666

*"2.1 Damage per second, right... and that is....hum... with good speed is like... uhu... yeah, damage."

*" Oh Yeah! 3-5 Damage, gonna bash some monsters with my fancy club!"

DPS = Damage_Range_Average * Attacks_Per_Second. It's very easy to get. All the numbers are there. It's not like you will ignore the damage range just because the DPS number is bigger. It's the more important number so it's fine where it is.

It's not hard to look 1 centimeter down to see the damage range. You're change is about "feeling" but it feels good to get better weapons so having the most important stat at the top makes the most sense.

    Quote from Calavera666

Dont get me wrong, Damage per second is great for spells, like poisoning and other damage over time oriented skills. But not for Weapon Hit Damage.

DPS is important for everyone. Period. Compare 2 weapon like my example above. All attacks are based on weapon damage AND speed, so DPS naturally is the most important stat.

If you get a weapon that has a damage range of 50-100 but only 2 DPS, it sucks. I'm not saying the damage range isn't important (and for SOME skills, spells and melee skills alike, it may be the number you want to go off of) but for the vast majority you want to look at DPS.

posted a message on Anyone else think that the monk needs more skills?!
    Quote from MTops

It looks like this new damage bomb skill is currently the new Lethal Decoy. I think they are testing the water with this new version to see if people are now taking it for it's AoE damage potential. Because the "decoy" part and some rune effects are now completely useless.

Expect more changes to Lethal Decoy. I see one of the following three options happening at some point:
    1. Lethal Decoy gets a new name, new rune effects and a new visual to fit the current functionality.
    2. Lethal Decoy changes are reversed.
    3. Lethal Decoy changes are reversed and a new AoE damage bomb skill is added.

    100% agree with this.

The Change pretty much eliminated the "decoy" part of the skill. Before it had some small utility that would have been really nice in later difficulties or Hardcore but now it's just an AoE bomb (a very strong one, but still...).

I wish they would just keep Lethal Decoy the way it was and add a new ability like Jay said.

I think the problem for them feeling like the monk lacks in AE and needs an "AE bomb" would mean that when one is implemented, EVERYONE will take it and it would become almost mandatory to be optimal.

They are probably just testing and seeing how many people take a really strong (411% the beta tooltip says) AE bomb by just changing Lethal Decoy for now. If they see that it almost seems "mandatory" in their internal testing for later difficulties, then they will most likely revert Lethal Decoy and add TWO more skills that both do significant AE damage but have 2 different play styles when using them to break up the "mandatory feeling" of an "AE bomb".

If it doesn't seem mandatory and it's not taken by everyone, then they might just keep Lethal Decoy the way it is now with minor changes/rune changes or add 1 skill that is a pure AE damage bomb and revert Lethal Decoy.

Hard to explain my thinking so hope that makes sense.

Although I understand where you're coming from, I think you're missing the point.

Rome and Juliet, you are told how it ends at the very beginning. You watch to see how it happens though. The journey to that end.

I think we all know that we'll save the day and all that (most likely with some cliffhanger action to keep the IP open ended and able to produce more games in the universe) but having certain aspects of the journey to that ending spoiled pisses people off and rightfully so.

Anyway, I just don't agree that the things that have been datamined are even spoilers. You have to be super hardcore into the lore if an avatar pic or a loading screen pic can spoil anything for you. Even then, if you know that much about lore, you probably expected whatever you saw.
