posted a message on Has D3 lost their true diablo fans?
    Quote from MalumUD

Since it took them 500 years to develop it, the older players have since gone on to other things, grown out of gaming, have other responsibilities etc.

<raises hand> I was 28 when I discovered Diablo I, and a couple years later, bought D2 when it was new, then played LOD after that.

I'm 42 now, and I'm still here, waiting patiently. From what I've seen of the beta, it's going to be very much worth it.

As the one guy said, there's a lot of stupid BS thrown around on this forum. Many of the 'concerns' I see, I call whining. If you want to play it, play it. If you don't want to play it in the form it is, don't buy it. Simple. If you think Blizzard is stupid or evil, don't buy their games. I make my own decisions about who is bad or not.

Internet connection? No problem, I've had a live connection since 1998 or so.
Money? I have a job and a life. Pocket change.
RMAH? Optional, makes no difference to me.
Free Time? I don't watch TV. I game. Easy.

So, yeah, I'm an old fan, but, these forums aren't exactly a fun place for someone at my stage in life. Too much wasted time and words on piddly bullshit that doesn't amount to anything.

It seems your complaints are specific to assumptions on boss design. Boss design that doesn't make much sense. Even DS doesn't do this. In DS you can die 30 times a day to the same guy over and over again...

I kinda don't see them making a boss that penalizes pet classes or penalizes them that much that you're bound to lose. And I believe skeletons exist specifically to provide health globes. You can make your build more rounded, though, with lifesteal or whatever.

Nevertheless, if all bosses are just boringly safe that would be lame and HC won't mean shit.

No, I'm against the retreat option, and I'll probably be the first person to die to some boss like that.

I think his point is that the SK is a pretty large jump from the mobs in the Cathedral. The only thing that comes close to how hard the SK is now is getting stuck in a group of elites in a four person game when I'm off by myself. And how often will that happen to an HC player?

I'm not really sure if I want an easy out or not, but we all know that there are GOING to be points where the difficulty jumps for some reason or another. As much as I love Blizz, they are still human, they'll make a mistake. Whether it is a boss like Duriel or the SK, or the gloams, or a bunch of elemental elites showing up in the one element your weak at.

If you can't handle losing a character, don't play Hardcore. It's that simple. That's why Blizzard puts up that big disclaimer when you start a hardcore toon.

posted a message on Digital Copy VS Box Copy
    Quote from Doez

I'm getting a digital copy from the Annual Pass (and cancelling WoW once the game is out) and then have a CE coming a couple days after release from Amazon that I'll tag to my bnet account.

Keep in mind you have to pay for the full year to keep the D3 license. If you cancel the AP early your D3 license on your Bnet account will disappear, and you won't be able to play D3 w/o buying it. Your call. Having it on your HD w/o any key on Bnet won't let you play because you won't be able to log into the servers.

Edit: If you meant that you're canceling WoW when the full year is up, then that will work fine. Just don't do it early, unless you want to pay for a copy of D3 on top of what you've already paid.

CE here so box of course.

Also, CD's or Online Install should both take aprox the same time. (Assuming you've already downloaded the game and are just waiting to decrypt.)

    Quote from Kamiftw

You can download the client already, no need to wait for launch. Problem solved!

Not 100%. The client is still encrypted and will take time to complete the install once you register your code on the 15th. That will take around the same amount of time as it would to install from CD (As I mentioned above).

I already have my license registered on Bnet, and it won't take an i7 long to decrypt. I can probably have mine installed while yours is still reading the CD. :D

(Not enough longer to matter, but it was fun to say!)

    Quote from Targariel

In pve there will be really good builds but it's really probable that you'll have to change builds in order to adapt to certain situations :/

And actually this may be the part that some of the people won't like. They might have to adapt things themselves on the fly rather than just go to a website, put in their build, and forget about it.

I'm all for the D3 method. Adapting as needed is fun, imo. If I like a build, but there's this one boss it doesn't work for? In D2, I just go around that boss, unless it's an Act boss. In D3, I adapt my build to do the job, and go on with my fun. I know which way I like best.

People don't like change. They want to be like D2, where they can point to their build and say "I have the best build for this class, anyone not using my build is an idiot!" and want it to stay that way. They don't want choices for people other than themselves.

It's that simple. Same old unique snowflake people that you see in other games, Diablo version. Just put those people on ignore, and the forums will be much easier to read.

    Quote from KalikooJack

I dont see the logic why digital download is 60e and boxed is cheaper... :S

Because game companies won't undercut the stores, or even *appear to undercut* the stores. If you want it digitally, then you'll pay. Or you can go to the store and pay a bit less, which makes the store profit. As someone else says, you don't get new blood on digital sales very much. You get new blood in stores, so, the game company can't undercut them if they want the stores to offer their product.

    Quote from Drez

tons of PvM runs consisted of PvP-ers doing endless runs for that perfect item for their PvP char....

Blizzard already has the data and knows how important (or not) PvP was to D2. They've made D3's PvP accordingly. /thread.

All of you arguing about relative PvM vs PvP player numbers: Blizzard *knows* the numbers. They own the service, and can look at logs for any time period they want for how many dueled, how many ran X boss, etc.

If PvP (real PvP, not griefers forcing it on people who didn't want PvP) was as important to D2 as some of you think, Blizzard would have come up with a different plan than they have. Your importance to D3 is not nearly as high as you seem to think, with the plan Blizzard is using now.

Having said that, I'm fine with them adding the arenas for you, but I'm not in favor of hostility in the open world.. You can have a hostile area to play in, and I'm sure the PvP patch will have that.

Going back to D2's forced hostility model would mean the end of D3, imo.

posted a message on Smart Stat Allocation
    Quote from Tilgare

WAIT - maybe I'm thinking of something else. Is it possible that they disallowed the ability for, say, +3 to Fury (Barbarian) and +5 to Arcane Power (Wizard) on the same item? That must be it, because you get zero benefit from those, at least the primary stats are doing something.

Now, that I could see, because that would be pretty much a waste if you're not that class.
