CardinalMDM posted a message on So do people here actually like the game?Posted in: Diablo III General DiscussionQuote from Icarus456
Can't say I enjoy the game in its current state. RoS seems to bring many improvements but at the same time it feels like a console game in a way. The thing that gave vanilla d3 longevity was the AH, love it or hate it, that was the end game. In RoS there really isn't much of an "end game". According to Athene there is roughly 70-80 hours of end game game play, hardly satisfying for an online game. For a casual gamer I think RoS will be a very fun experience, for an enthusiast I think it will be a disappointment, sadly.
I've heard Flux from DiabloIncGamers.com describe his experiences with the console version as being fit for people who like "instant gratification." My thoughts when hearing that was..."and so, how does that compare with people who camped in the Auction House, got godly gear within a few weeks of creation and got bored of facerolling?"
As for Athene quoting 70-80 hours of endgame play...really think that's a first impression underestimate that he's using too much logic to reach. You say the key to D3 longevity was the AH? Please. Before Paragon Levels actually gave people something to work toward, I had no desire to sit "In Menus" staring at gear I wished I could get in the game itself. I understand the concept, that the AH was a form of trading...but even 100% free trade, with no BOA, still took longer and was more engaging a way to progress than flipping items and buying endgame gear for all one's alts and never having kill any monsters.
Legendaries actually changing gameplay, and skills actually having reasonable synergies with one another, will keep this game going a lot longer than the two-year struggle most dedicated players have dealt with. Only reason Athene quoted such a small number in the video he posted about it is simple...he's looking at Bounties and Rifts and not seeing much variety. His logic is, people will just do those things and nothing else, and he thinks people will get bored. Meanwhile, in truth, people will be experimenting with builds, trying out new strategies, and doing those simple objectives to get more legendaries that can change their gameplay, and the process starts over again.
Plus, by adding an almost clean slate like Adventure Mode, the developers can add so much more to it. When Athene posted that video (which, by the way, he spent at least a portion of it talking about PvP), they hadn't made any announcements on Hellfire Rings or Uber Bosses, but apparently there will be a lot more of those...NEW Uber Bosses (including Diablo) are likely, in addition to the Bounties and Rifts, as well as Cursed Chest events...
70-80 hours? Not saying Athene isn't reliable for good feedback, but...try to not take him literally on that estimate.

DamienJohn posted a message on "Advancing" Advanced TooltipsPosted in: Diablo III General DiscussionSo I've been compiling a list of feedback and bugs to report for the Beta, but I just wanted to quickly share this as a QoL suggestion.
Cooldown Reduction, Resource Cost Reduction and +Skill% are all fantastic additions to the game, but I feel their benefits need more succinct representation in the UI. I really love that we can now view stat ranges on items when holding CTRL, so I thought, why not apply a similar function to Skill tooltips that shows their effective values. I made this quick mock-up as an example of how this display would function and what it would look like.
I feel this type of direct presentation makes those stats feel more tangible, while allowing for much more efficient theorycrafting.
Any thoughts on this? Or perhaps alternatives?
Edit: Dude, terrible spelling. -

shaggy posted a message on Someone Must be Held Responsible *Revised*Stop being a fucktard.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
You are still demanding Blizzard fire people to appease some sense of vengence. Why the hell do you think that got deleted? Are you seriously that dense?
It got deleted for the same reasons as the first one.
rmrulz outlined it for you the first time here. Clearly you didn't learn a damned thing.
EDIT
Your first post:
So after all this time of there being an auction house available in D3, Blizzard finally figured out that the AH short circuits their "core reward loop".
But the truth is, this is false. Blizzard knew before releasing D3 that the AH diminishes a core gameplay mechanic of the Diablo franchise.
So now we must question who made the decision that would sacrifice a core element of Diablo and possibly jeopardize the franchise.
Jay Wilson is not responsible. He was only the director and second to Rob Pardo, producer of Diablo 3. The auction house would not exist if Pardo didn't give it the green light. The buck stops with him.
But fans and devs alike should ask themselves if they really want a person that was willing to sacrifice a core gameplay element of the Diablo franchise to be producer of future games.
They say the first step of solving a problem is admitting you have one. Blizz did that yesterday with the announcement of closing of the AH. But that would only be treating a symptom of the real problem. Now is a time for change, Blizzard. Someone must be held responsible.
You barely edited it. It's still just as inappropriate as it was then. -

Bagstone posted a message on Getting back into Diablo 31) Play whatever class you like. Never play a class/spec just because it's the "most efficient one". It might work for a while, but after a couple of hours you get bored and quit, so in the end your paragon will be much higher if you play what you enjoy playing. WW barb is definitely the "most efficient", but it takes some time to get used to it and it's not everyone's cup of tea. Plus, if you play in a group it might not be suitable so much for some other classes/builds.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Although WW barb has easier access to higher MPs, it's not like 10 million gold will allow you to farm MP10. For some millions (or a few dozen millions) you might be able to survive on MP10, but it's not enough to farm efficiently (god, efficiency is such an annoying word in D3, but it sounds you're worried about that, so I'll use it). Wizards... well, in groups CMWW is quite strong, but it's also really tiring and might destroy keyboards and wrists. Archon is easy to gear for up to MP5, MP7 again some few dozen million if you're lucky, MP8+ is a matter of billions. Anyways: Play whatever you like most.
2) There's no specific route. Many people go Woods, Fields of Misery (incl. dungeons, in particular crypt), Weeping Hollow in act 1. But Vaults of the Assassins in act 2 is great as well, the traditional areas in act 3 are still fine but people are just bored of "Alkaizer runs", and even act 4 can be fun if you're not a glass canon. Whatever you decide to do, it's independent of MP level. You can do the Woods->FoM->Crypt->WH run on MP1 up to MP10. Pick the MP level that you can clear quickly (if you need more than 20 seconds on an elite pack, lower the MP; if you die frequently, lower the MP; if you one-shot everything and are bored, raise the MP). The optimal way of reaching paragon 100 is choosing class, spec, MP level, and areas that you like such that it doesn't feel like a chore.
3) The goal is to find a Puzzle Ring, a Murlocket, and a Grandfather, defeat Diablo with nothing except these items equipped and type /rickrolled at the very second he dies. Then the cow level will open and once you defeat the Raging Bull King, you have defeated the game.
Okay, I have no idea what you mean by "goal", but Diablo 3 after all is nothing but a game. ITS GOAL IS TO HAVE FUN. Here's some stuff that I did in the past few weeks: Hunted some achievements, like Rakanishu. Helped my friends to speed level every class to 60. Did the same for me, found out that DH isn't that bad after all. Bought some cheap crap gear to get 90 discipline and found out that you're absolutely invincible with 90 disc (facetanking phase beasts with permanent Gloom). Did some Sever/EP monk+DH+wiz action blowing up groups of elite packs on MP10. Tried out some "silly" builds on my monk (because there are so many fun builds). And recently, I went back to my barb that I had neglected for one year. Since the AH is shutting down in ~5.5 months, I might as well use it for the time being to try out some stuff.
It would probably be most efficient to farm paragon levels but I don't give a rat's ass about that. I work all day, D3 is my free time activity. -

shaggy posted a message on Worth buying gold off RMAH before it closes down?Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Because Marquise gems were implemented SPECIFICALLY as a gold sink for people with lots of gold.
They're a very bad gold sink because self-found people usually can't afford them and the people for whom they're supposed to be siphoning off gold they don't even make a dent in their pile. They miss the mark on all fronts. -

All I ask is that Rob Pardo's name never be on another Diablo product again. Ever.
I take it your one of those people that if you won the lottery, you'd end up bitching about the taxes you had to pay on it.
They've made huge strides in improving this game since its release and I applaud them for that, they realized they released a turd and then turned to the community for input and changes on how to fix it, and the for the most part have been very proactive at doing so. While it doesn't excuse the missteps they've made at least they admit when their wrong. I swear the community on the official forums is complete garbage, people cannot be pleased 100% of the time. I can't even go to the official bnet forums anymore because the bitching and moaning is so bad and half the time its over full retard mode type stuff. -

shaggy posted a message on Extreme censorship on the Official Forums! So you demanded they fire Rob Pardo... and you wonder why your post got deleted? If it were me you'd be permenantly suspended.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Just FYI, Blizzard doesn't have Diablo forums for you to discuss who they should employ. The forums are there to discuss Diablo, not for you to demand they fire people.
I actually hope the mods here ban you because, IMO, it's just as inappropriate that you'd post that here as there. It's people like you which hold this community back and stifle creativity because every "fuck up" has to be compensated for by some guy losing his job. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

The only way to ensure a gear reset with an expansion is by allowing numbers to grow to crazy amounts. It's why every single WoW expansion ends up with numbers that just look insane compared to previous expansions. If the gear isn't designed to allow this, you'll end up with casuals who play very little upgrading everything two levels into the expansion but other, full-time gamers with BiS items exploding with rage on the official forums because they are still wearing half of their old gear at the new level cap.

I will. I had no interest in ladder in D2, and I have no interest in it in D3. Given that I have time to play, at most, two or three times a week, I have zero interest in re-rolling just because some arbitrary "season" came to an end.
For all the people out there that are excited for ladder, there are many more casual and semi-casual players who don't give one flying fuck about it.

Well, crap.

Use that 4cc mempo on your own character, or sell it on the gold auction house and use that gold to buy new items for your character.
Never mind, sorry, I forgot for a moment that people are still interested in profiting off a video game that is supposed to be about fun and entertainment.

It's just that I'm on something of a personal crusade to stamp out the use of the word "retard" as an insult, because it can be quite offensive to people who actually suffer from mental retardation (or those who care for them).
Sorry, I'll stop highjacking the thread.

Any attempt to limit the number of pre-order sales would be so full of complete guesswork and arbitrariness as to render it completely useless.
