I started with a full defensive CM build with Crystal Shell, Prismatic Armor, and the CD reduction rune on frost nova, as well as Cold Blooded, CM, and Evocation as passives that were unchanged throughout. I took the fight time and my char sheet dps to compute the DPS Multiplier, which is the effective dps gain of the build. For example, at 100k dps using the full defensive build I would expect an effective dps of 247k. I also computed relative DPS of each spec meaning switching from Prismatic to Storm Armor increased dps by about 36%.
And in case there's any confusion, 'x' in the table means that skill was used.
Storm Armor | Shocking Aspect | Pinpoint | Shards | Prism | DPS Multiplier | Relative DPS |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2.47 | 1 | |||||
x | 2.78 | 1.13 | ||||
x | 2.99 | 1.21 | ||||
x | 3.01 | 1.22 | ||||
x | 3.36 | 1.36 | ||||
x | x | 4.06 | 1.65 | |||
x | x | x | 4.25 | 1.72 |
The interesting information is that Storm Armor is about a 36% dps gain over prismatic armor. When you add Shocking Aspect it's a 65% dps gain over prismatic armor and about a 36% dps gain over pinpoint barrier. Adding Diamond Shards further increases the dps gain but it's only about a 4% dps gain by itself when you use Shocking Aspect. The dramatic decrease in survivability for the fight makes it very not worthwhile, but that could easily change depending on the fight. Rak for example, would probably be just fine with DS or prism.
I also expect the values for Shocking Aspect to be dependent of crit and attack speed, since it only procs on crits and higher attack speed should lead to more procs from WW, so with 50% crit, I'd expect the damage to increase by about 16%, or I'd expect the total dps gain to be about 90%, for a relative dps of 1.9. With a crit % of 52% I would expect Shocking Aspect to double your dps over prismatic armor, roughly speaking, with the same APS of 1.965 or so.
For reference, my stats at the time of the data collection were 104k dps buffed (110k with pinpoint), 1.965 attacks per second, 20 APoC, 1298 LoH, 1.5% Life Steal, 641 resist all and 4588 armor unbuffed, with 40.5k hp and 43% crit with Scoundrel. I also had about 400 life per second regen, just to complete the stats.

Not a good idea. If a QQ thread pops up that provides no solid base for discussion, report it, don't reply to it, and we'll lock it. This thread is just the same -no discussion, just QQ about QQ. Therefore - locked.

That system was in place in D3V and was called the auction house. And it was the worst thing the entire Diablo universe had ever seen in terms of gaming experience. Look, I'm a total victim of RNG with bad luck, ask my friends. But I take the current system a hundred times over the insane AH system.

From now on we have a very short and concise blue response to that. It is: this is never gonna happen.
such is the nature of Diablo games—by playing the game you have a chance at acquiring the loot you are looking for, but it will never be possible to guarantee that you will get it.

You can farm forever and not see any of the items mentioned above. There is absolutely no point in making a list of items you want to get and waiting for them to drop. They might never drop and you might get super frustrated (I did the mistake and told myself to get any wizard set for the 500 int bonus, not gotten any 2 items of any wizard set so far after a loooot of playing, so ultimately I'm feeling a bit frustrated now).
Also, you cannot aim for a build unless you have the items for it. Look at all the items that you have and create a build around it. I disagree with the notion of "go fire everything else is crap". Many, if not most, end-game wizards play arcane, and there are viable frost and lightning builds (some of them in the build section). It all comes down to the items you have, and the skills you like.
So, based on your gear I'd have gone for exactly the same build that you chose, with one exception: Prodigy. MM with Mirrorball is such a huge DPS spell that Prodigy is unnecessary; go Blur for extra survivability or Audacity for extra DPS. In terms of getting more survivability on gear Helycon already mentioned everything there is to say.
Focus on mitigation, if necessary you can drop some HP. I'd ditch the Cain helmet (extremely low rolls and socket is useless compared to, for example, allres) and possibly even Firebird's set (you don't need cooldown reduction and resource cost reduction with your build, and MS on boots is a waste, so three wasted stats just to get the 500 int bonus). You could try to gamble Blackthorne's set as it allows to access higher Torment levels (that's my only ticket to higher difficulties as well right now), and put the second Aughild's piece on shoulders or helmet.

Thanks for posting. I'm sitting on a pile of data but too lazy to post. Well, and honestly too scared to post because of some stuff that I read recently.
Anyways, some "requests": Could you add a top column to sum it all up (playtime, rifts, legendaries), maybe a few more lines to sum it all up for each individual setup (Torment level, solo/group)? Also, could you separate Kadala legendaries (log them separatly and subtract them from rift legendaries)?
Edit: One interesting thing to see is the wide spread of drop rates. There are instances of 10 legs within really short amount of time, and no legs for a really long time. Exactly RNG. That's why I call BS on all those "10 legs/h" or "0 legs/h" posts...

Congratz, Angzt, for making it to the official Diablo 3 front page!

I've said it all along and I'll say it once again: I hate this decision.
It will eventually force everyone to play ladder. The argument that items will transfer to non-ladder after the season doesn't help here, as you still need to play ladder to get this item in the first place. And we know how long it can take until you get a specific item...
I really don't get the reason behind this - some people really wanted to have ladders, that's fine, and now all those will get their ladders. But now everyone is forced into playing ladder. Sucks.

Resplendent Chests drop more loot than white chests. This has nothing to do with "believing" in it. The reason why white chests are perceived as having a higher drop chance is because you find so many more of them, and therefore also received more legendaries from white chests. In absolute numbers I've received way more legendaries from white chests than from resplendent, definitely. But especially since the last patch, when resplendent chests were even buffed, those have a higher drop chance.

We have tracked our legendaries for about a week, doing hours of T1 speed rifts every night. Halfway through that week one of us switched to barbarian with Chilanik's Chain and group Sprint buff. Our average leg per hour rate increased significantly. Is it statistically significant? Maybe, not sure, can't be bothered to run an analysis. But just from looking at all our individual as well as the group's average, we got a lot more legendaries per hour (because we finished a lot more rifts per hour).
This would be very nice, because "screw efficiency - let's just have fun" is kinda my motto, but I think it's the biggest tinfoil hat theory I've seen in quite a while...
