I'll never understand why [for some people] it is mandatory for a build to have permanence in order to be a 'true' build...
'True' seems to become a catchword in Diablo related topics [true blizzard fan, true pvper, true hardcore player, true diablo 2 player, ..you know how it goes]
oh yeah, and though I agree with the OP, he is a troll. and a successful one

Very true, Glad is mos' def' a troll =D As far as the need for a permanent build, it doesn't make sense to me either. I've said it a thousand times, I think it's a control issue people have, because they think they won't have fun if someone else isn't playing exactly how they would. Hopefully the way skills go ( picking only 6, 3 passives, free swaps with little CD) will stay the same. This system of easier swapping is quite honestly my second most favorite part of D3, aside from the environments (just running through act 1 in beta, when it's night out, and there's some wind and animal noises, and you can see the moons reflection in the puddles next to the wavy grass. <--- totally homo but seriously they did so good with the different zones ).
He might be a troll, but he knows his stuff.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
Really wish, people would realize that a real build is something permanent, you make your decision you life with it, period. I mean whats the point of thinking wisely about your decisions if in the end, you can easily change them everytime? People wan't learn how to play and how to use synergies that way.
Honestly it seems like every game Blizzard 2.0 is making, will be even dumber than the other one, so project Hydra will be the epidome of handholding.
Its not worth getting worked up over a video game but its really telling, how the new team thinks that an already incredible easy game (DII) needed to be further dumbed down in order to please some lazy players. Hell if you built your character wisely in DII you didn't even need the best gear to be succesful in higher difficulties which was a great thing, because people didn't depend on dropluck solely.
seriously odin you havent made any sense this whole time and your still talking out your ass. a build is NOT permanant. and creating an illusion of permanancy doesnt make it any more of a build either. your build is what skills you use thats all, being able to easily switch or difficult to switch is irrelevent. just because i can switch any skills in my build with ease doesnt mean ill do it. how does being able to switch MAKE me want to switch? that makes no fuking sense.
easy? they added an EXTRA difficulty that'll be way harder then D2 hell ever was. how is that easier? lol. more of your ass talking.

Yeah alright, D3 has no "real" build since its not permanent and D3 is dumbed down. Happy ?
How the hell did this argument become about hardcore vs casuals?
Why does being able to respec freely = casual? I think D2 was casual, because you could clear the entire game with two skills. How many times do you see sorcs running around Hell mode clearing Act 4 and 5 with frozen orb only? Yes I know they have some passives and shit in there and might teleport every once in a while, but that shit is just BORING.
You must understand, that now that Blizzard knows every player has access to every skill, they can balance the higher difficulty levels under the assumption that you do have every skill available. This isn't some "god mode" of skill systems where Blizzard assumes all you have is Poison Dart as a Witch Doctor and balances the hard content around that. They balance the hard content based on the way their skill system works.
Fucking morons. This isn't a casual vs. hardcore debate. And this is not a "dumbing down" of the game. In fact, being able to select a viable build that will allow you to slay nonstop without stopping to waste time changing skills will be a challenge. And if Blizzard can assume you have access to every skill when they design the encounters, you better pick your skills carefully.
Those of you who failed to understand this before you made a post about "dumbing down" or being able to respec "catering to casuals" should just uninstall every game from their computer and go play checkers with the old men in the park. D2 is out dated and fucking boring, get over it.
I really wonder what the incessant need is for people to try and "convince" others that "my opinions are right and yours are wrong".
Some people enjoyed "building" characters, the process of mapping out his stats and skills and gear from start to finish. Others do not. Diablo II allowed more customization than Diablo III does currently, this is a fact. Whether or not that lack of customization will make for a better game remains to be seen. And the funny thing is, some people will find it better, and others will find it worse. And they can both be right!
If I like Blue and you like Red, you don't have to try and convince me that your choice is superior to mine. It seems that a lot of people do that on the net out of some sense of "self-justification" because they just can't be wrong...
I dont understand why is free respect in game. It only limits you to need to wait to change the skills. I see that people like to have all skills available to them. So why not remove respect at all, and give all skils to be availabel to use.
There are around 250 builds in D2 that are able to beat Hell solo. I bet many of you don't even kno what a poison fairy is.
best troll comment ever. +1
troll ?
buddy, you're the official dfans troll. Want me to post all the 243 builds over here ? lol
No, nobody cares about D2 builds. The game is 12 years old, out dated, and boring. Get over it.
Noob detected.
Well, it's not fair to call some1 noob, just coz he has different taste in games, no matter how bad it appears.
Some like RPGs, other Arcades - the same as some like Godfather, other Twilight... Who are we to judge them? We can only hope that Blizzard won't sell themselves to that mainstream majority.

Yeah I'm a huge newb. Only shitty gamers waste their time crushing pubs in HoN matchmaking or Dota2 matchmaking. Only bad gamers waste their time playing The Witcher 2 or enjoying some throwback ESEA pugs on Counter-Strike 1.6. Yeah, real gamers spend 12 years playing and coveting Diablo 2 and believing it to be the end-all be-all of good game design. I played D2 -- when it was relevant. 12 years ago. Then other games came out. Other, better games. And I played those.
I look forward to crushing you in Arenas you pile of garbage.
Taste is one thing, critical opnion is another. He said D2 is irrelevant. It's like saying the Godfather is irrelevant. No matter whats your taste, you're a noob for thinking or saying that.
Noob =/= Bad taste. Noob = lack of background.
I look forward to crushing you in Arenas you pile of garbage.
I'm not certain you will manage to reach level 60 in hardcore in order to face me.

I said it was out dated, not irrelevant, clown. It is out dated. See above post. It had its time and it had its affect on the genre. Now is D3's time and it has to take into account all the other games that have had an affect on the genre. Not just ignore them and pretend like it's 2005. You, are the newb, and I look forward to shitslamming you into the dumpster in arenas.

Kid, you're just a tool. I realize I'm going straight to flaming, but your insatiable trolling is extremely annoying. You bring zero evidence to every argument, you resort to personal attacks every time you lose said argument, and your demeanor leaves a lot to be desired.
Also, the Godfather IS irrelevant. Just because you like it doesn't mean other people have to care.

funny how you love to divide the world between D2 fanboys - D3 hater and D3 fanboy - D2 hater.
When did I said D3 is not good or it is not it's time ? When did I said I play D2 for 12 years without playing any other game ? When did I said Blizzard should ignore everything was made and make D2.5 ? Those are a bunch of assumptions you took out of nowhere.
Someone said: D2 has bad customisation.
I said: False, it has almost 250 viable builds.
You said: Noone cares about D2, it's outdated, get over it.
I said: You're noob.
I only said you're noob because you sounded like the kind of people who play RPG asking for respecs and this kind of stuff. If my assumption was wrong I can only ask for your forgiviness. If it's the case, sorry i have nothing more to tell you.
Respec in RPGs is stuff created for noobs who can't deal with research, theorycrafting, spreadsheets, etc... I'm not saying noobs are stupid or doesn't deserve to play - they can simply copy someone's build and have fun. But now developers are favoring those who can't build a character in detriment of those who can. They are doing the right thing since majority of people nowdays don't like to build characters and the game have to be made for everyone - but I can't help but be pissed cause i'm in the minority.
This is D3's case because with free and easy respec, the game feels realy short lived at my eyes. If i'm free to test everything at light speed, creating an new build will take only a few minutes, not days.
Also, the Godfather IS irrelevant. Just because you like it doesn't mean other people have to care.
I'm not a hardcore movie fan, I was just using the other user's analogy. People shouldn't care, i agree. It doesn't change the fact they are noobs. A noob is someone with lack of background. They tend to like bad stuff because they don't have a lot of experience. It's like comparing someone who plays wii sports and someone who plays starcraft. One has much more experience in games, thats way he consider the other one a noob.
