They are two completely different games with very little crossover, my interest in the console version as an individual who will probably never play it is VERY limited and entirely academic because it will never have any real effects on what i am going to call the REAL Diablo 3 which is the PC version...
As an illustration of why this is an issue: just looking at the DiabloFans news-page as it currently stands im forced to admit that it has lost overall value to me as a result of the diversified interest in the console version. I see the word 'console' and immediately tune out or go somewhere else because it does not affect me.
just a rant but i'm sure im not the only one who feels this way. Diablo3 has been convoluted by the console version.
It has the ability to enhance the pc version also but right now the whole situation seems convoluted while we're awaiting any substantial pc news or updates.

Ok so A; Do you mean the 'real' version is the PC version? Because what you state contradicts itself.
You may not like the console version, for whatever reason, that's fine and completely up to you. But what is this thread about? Is there an actual purpose to this thread? Or are you just hoping for support in hating something?
I can understand you don't like the console version, I totally respect that. But you need to understand this site is for Diablo as a whole and not exclusively the PC version.
I don't think D3 has been convoluted at all by the console version. We're seeing so much news about the console version at the moment because it's being released VERY soon. That's understandable isn't it? I mean why wouldn't Blizzard build up hype around the console version?
It's another way they can reach out to gamers who don't want to spend a heap of money on a PC, so why not spread the word?
Again, I understand that people don't like the console version, but when we make threads like this we need to think of the good that the console version will bring to Blizzard and especially Diablo. How you interpret that is up to you. People need to think logically before bashing.
Have you seen the facebook comments on some of the Diablo 3 posts? Absolutely disgusting.

Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
There's just no news for PC right now. This might change at GamesCom in ~2 weeks, and this will also definitely change in about ~5 weeks once the console version is released and the buzz has settled. It's just the "pre-release" hype going on, it'll soon be over.
Of course, there will always be *some* console news in the future, as both versions will continue to co-exist, but just skip the news that you don't like (as I do as well, since I have also zero interest in console). Similarly, there are many other topics/news that I'm not interested in (PvP, certain streamers, and other things) but I just ignore them. This is a website for all Diablo Fans, and not just "Diablo3_PvE_SC_onPC_Fans" or so.
They've already said that the console version and pc version will have practically the same patch (some prices may be adjusted for the console version..but the loot drop system etc will be the same)...Meaning..The console version will be useless after level 60 with the current loot system..forcing blizzard to push it out the door very soon. ..The console version might actually force them to release meaningful updates more often.
As an illustration of why this is an issue: just looking at the DiabloFans news-page as it currently stands im forced to admit that it has lost overall value to me as a result of the diversified interest in the console version. I see the word 'console' and immediately tune out or go somewhere else because it does not affect me.
You could always send some of the masses of PC D3 related news to the main news guys (I'm sure they have a news submission email or something) if you feel the console is over-represented.
Given that there is going to be a big 'Blizzard announcement' in a few weeks that sounds like it's probably D3 related, and unless it's a massive over-hype and a xBox1 release announcement chances are it will be PC related news.
People are angry with the console version because they think the PC version gets less updates because of it. But the truth is the PC version would be just as abandonned as it is even without the console version.
I don't buy their bullshit that the console isn't holding up D3's progress. It is.
I feel the delay is 110% because of the console. They're making sure that their vision for 1.09 and the x-pac fall in line with the console version, so that the two platforms are properly paralleled. Were it not for the development of the console, I'm sure we'd be far ahead of where we are now.
I can understand you don't like the console version, I totally respect that. But you need to understand this site is for Diablo as a whole and not exclusively the PC version.

But the key point is that
1. Diablo used to be a PC only game.
2. Therefore news on this site was fairly exclusively dedicated to the PC version of the game.
That has changed and IMO this is bad for those members of the community who only play the PC version.
Diablo 3 has pretty much been convoluted by definition, where once you could talk about Diablo and only be talking about a PC game now you are talking about the a very similar Game Across two Platforms such that really there are 2 games which are on the whole quite mutually exclusive, how does that not convolute the situation??
Not only does it convolute the situation it convolutes everything which is associated with it, the Diablo3 website and this website must now pedal both PC and Console news and updates rather than specialising in PC only news.
For me and other PC only Gamers this is and will be a bad thing IMO. you cant win a battle fighting for both sides, specialisation works for a reason; because it is efficient. which in gaming terms allows you to deliver the most satisfying product. I can see the counter argument which you are suggesting(diversification>>higher profit>>greaterinvestment in D overall) but today i like my side better

Anywho, I'm fine with them doing a console. I think it's great and it fits the genre to be playable on any platform.
However, the way things have shaken out, the way they announced a console version some time ago as if they surprised even themselves by developing that version, the way it's taken over a year and a half for many basic upgrades to be added to what most people consider to be a game that isn't anywhere near it's potential.......
.....I gotta say, something ain't right here. Why was the console development not something they talked about years ago? Did they just wake up a year ago and decide to do it? No, of course not.
All this adds together to tell me that they must've thought Diablo 3 was finished, polished and fully satisfactory when they launched it. Boy...were they wrong.
Again, I feel the lackluster reception of Diablo 3 was a complete surprise to them. I feel there's been a huge delay in fixing itemization because they wanted to make sure the PC version and the console version were properly paralleled.
I'm not sayin I'm pissed about it. I just find it curious, this whole D3 experience, rather odd to date.
I believe you can filter the threads being shown at the top of the main page. So if you go there to look for the hottest topics, the console ones won't show up once you filter. But the poster would obviously need to post in the console section.
Yes, Diablo1 used to be a PC only game... After 1-2 year (just like the did for D3), they released the playsation1 version. Diablo2 was pc only game. Diablo 2 expansion was pc only game. Diablo 3 was planned to be pc only game... The OP was not that wrong to be honest!....
You might be right, but it is also possible they'd be just as slow even without the console version. Just look how slow they are with WoW patches (around 3-5 months between patches, 7-9 months pre-xpack, a little like we are now in D3). This is how Blizzard work, they release the original pay version, then make patches, slower and slower everytime, then release an xpack and do it all over again.
It's hard not to have this shit rub you the wrong way.
Just go to the Bnet forums right now. The 3 latest Blue posts....all console related. That's been the trend for a few months now, and with D3 kinda flapping in the wind, even the most patient are getting a bit irritated.
It strikes many as a bit odd that they're so aggressively marketing a different platform release for game that many people feel is very much broken.
I wouldn't even give a shit by this point, after all this time, if I wasn't so sure that d3 had such incredible potential.

I agree with you - but I think there is a higher corporate influence/momentum to consider here.
The game's design at release supported new systems that were being tested for the very first time - live - on a Blizzard game.
I don't think they expected such a sweeping backlash at the design of the game as they got and it clearly wasn't something they were willing to fix quickly. It isn't because they can't - they won't. Changes have slowly been made and the console can certainly be a cause for that - but I think its a minor cause.
The easiest way to bring the game back into alignment (shedding the old design) with community expectations was to slowly adjust the current game and then release an expansion that pleased the masses.
That expansion would need to be available for the PC and shortly there after for the console. So they get the game going for the console and when that is stable - they drop the expansion so it can hit both platforms.
Corporate momentum. More dollars for shareholders.
I'll chime in that it's a series we can drop and hop into anytime so I'm finding other things to do while waiting for patches. 1.0.8 had me playing fairly consistently for 4 months which more than any of the other patches offered. Now I'm bored again and will wait till 1.0.9 and probably play for a few months again. This is a series that changes slowly and as long as the community stays active we'll eventually get what we've been waiting for... even though it will be 16 years since D2
Beyond that, I think Polrayne has nailed it.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
Yes because a Diablo release for the play-station from 1998(which i played btw) voids arguments which are primarily about a game that was released in 2012.
