I think that marijuana is a topic that hasn't really ever been touched on DFans. The reason why I care is because, looking at the "Gay Marriage" thread, it seems that people on here are really passionate about what they believe and the reasoning behind it. I like looking at discussions regarding marijuana because this issue, like most issues, really shows what people think regarding morals.
Anyway, I just wanted to know how you guys feel about this issue.
*Please notice: nobody in this discussions should encourage the use of marijuana. This is a warning and anyone who doesn't oblige will be reported to the mods. I want this to be a fun discussion, nothing more, nothing less.

Awesome... I find very rewarding my thread inspired other cool discussion topics XD
on topic: I think it should be legalized, I don't find it different than alcohol (not so close to tobacco) and having it legalized leads to making better government policies to regulate it, just like alcohol...
I don't think it should be available for everyone, lets say only for 18+ year old people or something like that...
the only reasonable option I find to this is forbid EVRY drug, alcohol, tobacco or whatever...
Marijuana is illegal for a reason and shall remain illegal for a reason. It's bad for your body, bad for the public, and a waste of time. I consider it on the same level as ciggarettes actually, but they're all disgusting in their own special way. Find a new hobby (banging, safe banging) pot-smokers because no good comes from it. If it was legal, America would crumble. Boom, hows that for above the influence kids
Whoa I didn't know you could have multiple polls in one thread.
I don't think that marijuana should be nationally illegal because I don't like how the national government can abuse the interstate commerce clause they way that they do.
As far as state law goes, I think that it should be put up to a vote. If the citizens of a state want to accept the benefits and drawbacks of legalizing it then that should be their choice. I would probably vote for it to be legal, because I like making my own choices about what I can and cannot do.
Although I do think that smoking marijuana is really stupid and the only reason I didn't vote for "Marijuana is for losers and old people." is because I don't know many old people who smoke and that would make most of my friends losers
Marijuana is not toxic enough to kill you. It just isn't. In fact, Alcohol and Tobacco will kill you long before Marijuana will kill you. The problem with Marijuana? People smoke it. If you use a water bong, the red hot shreds of paper don't enter your lung and burn your lungs.
I personally will never smoke it, don't have the urge, but I certainly will argue the right for anyone who wants to use it.
The only reason it is illegal is because people needed a scape goat, just like when they made Alcohol illegal.

Marijuana doesn't have arsenic or other such poisons in it like those cancer sticks we call cigarettes have....
Also, the idea that America would crumble if Marijuana was legalized was used with Alcohol too, and looky, we are still here. And we were here before Marijuana was legal, too.
I don't really think it's any different than alcohol, but I still voted that it should be illegal, except for medical purposes. If it actually helps people get better, then let em use it, but if everyone was smoking all the time, nothing would ever get done.
Whoa I didn't know you could have multiple polls in one thread.
Neither did I. It made things a whole lot easier, actually. It's a pretty neat feature, but you can only have three polls per thread, up to twenty options on each poll.

For me, it's really about options. You can either use it or not, but just because it's legal doesn't mean that everybody's going to use it. People who have used it under the noses of the authorities will flock out and use it, no doubt about that. I think that if people look at the repercussions of all the narcotics in the world and then place their judgment on whether the people using it should be punished because, in my opinion, the few people who use Marijuana are being subjugated to the law for nothing but enjoying themselves and their practice.
Although I do think that smoking marijuana is really stupid and the only reason I didn't vote for "Marijuana is for losers and old people." is because I don't know many old people who smoke and that would make most of my friends losers
Marijuana isn't the most attractive thing to do, agreed. It is, in my opinion, a waste of time, but having been under the influence of marijuana many times, I am really indifferent to how it affects my lifestyle. It's just one of those consequences that I have to deal with.

I never liked weed. I've tried smoking it many times with friends and while it would make my friends have a good time, I'd fucking feel bad all night, paranoid and feeling really weird just waiting impatiently for the buzz to end. That's why I decided to never touch the shit ever again. It's like I'm allergic to it or something..
Anyways, a few months ago I saw this documentary on Marijuana, they were talking about this guy who used to smoke on occasions and would never really like it but continued to do it to be "cool" or whatever. Sadly the guy became a schizophrenic because of it and he's now permanently fucked. They also said in the show that this can only happen to about 5% of the population, it has alot to do with your genes.. like if you have a schizophrenic in your family you're more at risk. So anyways I took this like an explanation, because I know there's some schizos in my family. Maybe that's why I always got bad-buzzes.. . Maybe I just got lucky. I don't think Mental health is something to be risking, just to be cool or have a good time.
So basically I think there's more reasons than we think for it being illegal.

This body holding me, reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember... We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion.
When we the matter is legality, it doesn't matter if you or me like it or not.
Legality exist to protect a individual from the actions of OTHER individuals, not to protect a individual from HIMSELF. If pot-smokers want to loose their time and their body, their have the right to do so, since the body and the time belongs to then and only to then.
This kind of regulation only degrates the freedom of the individuals w/o any good reason (accept other's moral standarts because they are influential in political parties is not even close to a good reason).
Its not worse than alcohol in a sense of deaths directly linked to it. For instance how can 'legalizers' be in support of people using the marijuana while driving. 'They' say it has no effect while operating a vehicle but I'm sure people would get into serious accidents if everyone was high all the time. How ridiculous! Deaths would spike, just like alcohol related deaths already are. People smoking in there basement and hiding from the authorities etc, wow how far you go to abuse the law and look (cough) 'cool'. All for an endorphin release...
As for a 'gateway' drug... lets think about this. If your drug dealer deals in drugs wouldn't that mean that he has access to more than just marijuana? Most likely. Whats to stop him dealing other kinds for more money and selling them to people, along side the weed. Nothing, exactly. Therefore you will be exposed to more than marijuana and you will tempted to try 'something better, man' 'gives you instant highs' etc. We've all been there. And that's just one angle. Sadly it just takes one step for some people I know that isn't always true but its sad when they go down that road and can't come back
We all know people who are hardcore in support of it, many things they say: "if it was illegal, you think people would use it more?" Of course you fool, you want 8 year old kids smoking up (cause they think its cool) while their brain is still developing? Or for any reason whatsoever? Ha! Just like cigarettes or alcohol of course. Cause since when has inhaling any kind of smoke, toxins, or ethanol been good for you?
As an a small example, I work on people's vehicles all day and quite a few clients are high as kites when they come in and as a result they are as stupid as ****! You ask them a question and they have to think for ages or forget things you've just told them or forget mid sentence what their are asking you etc. Its sad! Happens all the time. And really how is that cool or effective in your life?? Doesn't affect brain function or thought processing. My arse it doesn't. Does anyone want these people driving? "Oh it doesn't affect me." Please... anything for an excuse to justify your reasoning.
Why don't we just get rid of all the drugs and alcohol and live happily ever after!? Yay! Screw the job dependencies, cops can catch other criminals, cigarette factory workers can get other jobs. Like really, that's an argument??? You're saving people's lives by helping them not get addicted or poisoning their bodies. Its not their livelihood its their lives, their very being. People get two those confused.

"So you have come here for information? I have some for you..."
Path, you are insane. Your arguments were used for alcohol. And Marijuana, just like Alcohol, would be illegal for people while driving, and for people under a certain age.
And why would we go to a sleezy dealer when pot stores would pop up, that would be regulated by the United States Government for your safety.
Seriously, everything you said was used by the anti-alcohol people, and all of it has been refuted many times over.
For instance how can 'legalizers' be in support of people using the marijuana while driving.
So you're saying that Samuel Adams wants people to drink and drive? Nobody is in support of driving under the influence.
You're leaving out common sense in this argument. My dad drinks, but he does it in the safety of his home. Nowhere in your argument did you ever consider that Marijuana smokers would do their business responsibly because there is such a thing as "responsible drug use".
As for a 'gateway' drug... lets think about this.
Most Marijuana users get their stuff from friends. Those friends usually don't get it from shady drug dealers, that's a common misconception. Marijuana is in much higher demand than coke, heroin, and other psycho-actives, so it wouldn't make sense for him to carry more than Marijuana on his person.
My friend gets his Marijuana from his cousin. That guy gets it from a direct source. There is no in-between, my friend gets it from a friend.
We all know people who are hardcore in support of it, many things they say: "if it was illegal, you think people would use it more?" Of course you fool, you want 8 year old kids smoking up (cause they think its cool) while their brain is still developing?
Can you name one time where you saw a child with any narcotic, be it tobacco or alcohol?
And the whole, "since it's legal, more people will use it" argument is just... why would I willingly submit myself to alcohol use because it's legal? There are no benefits to me drinking alcohol, I even find it more dangerous than smoking Marijuana.
Are you going to get fat because eating is legal?
Why don't we just get rid of all the drugs and alcohol and live happily ever after!?
You're just asking for revolt from all the alcoholics and tobacco users. You can't take those away, those are commodities forever cemented in our society.
Link, there's really no need for that. I don't want this thread to turn ugly before it even got started. Try to respectfully disagree. He has his reasons behind his response, leave them as they are.

ive seen potheads and they range from total losers and scrubs to some pretty smart people. it really depends on the person, dont smoke and go driving or operate heavy machinery or something; same rules as alcohol. if it were legalized at least. i couldnt care less though tbh.

Remember the String of Ears
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
Well, since I voted... I'm pretty much with Link and a few others on this, with some minor details. I'm never going to touch the stuff, personally, but if people want to smoke or otherwise consume the stuff, possibly to their detriment, that's their freedom. The consumption won't hurt anyone else so long as, like alchohol, it's not done driving or under any other similar circumstance.
I firmly believe that having laws against it is partially what is making it such a big mess right now, anyway. If it wasn't illegal, normal people with normal consciences, which is the majority of people in my opinion, would buy it legitimately instead of going through an illegal market, and would probably go through screening and such. Given, such things will still exist, just like pirating will always exist, but I believe it would be lessened considerably, and would reduce the funding of drug lords, save lives, and make the world a better place.
Those were mostly generalizations, but I think most of us can agree that makes a modicum of sense.
I frequently view these boards to check up on Diablo 3 updates but Im usually never interested in talking because it would make the wait even worse for me.
However I love Weed and smoke it regularily so I figured I would chime my opinion amongst all of yours. Firstly marijuana shouldn't be illegal. Marijuana doesn't kill people, It can't destroy peoples lives and it isn't highly addictive. Wish you could say that for the legal drugs eh? If weed was really that harmful, wouldn't we have support groups like Marijuana Anonymous? The only argument against marijuana I can agree with is that it makes people okay with being bored (thank you South Park). However, Im sure we're all aware at the amount of lazy people in the world and im sure they're not all smoking marijuana.
If i had to guess why it was illegal I would have to blame American Privitized Prisons as the leading reason. Im sure the majority of people locked up in prison are there for simple charges like holding marijuana or smoking it. More heads in prison = more money in the corporate pockets. It really is a backwards system.
I think to smoke marijuana should be a choice. It obviously doesn't suit everybody, but just like alcohol, there should be a choice. Smoking a joint shouldn't make anyone a criminal.

I'm sure that if anybody went to rehab for "Marijuana addiction", the sponsors would laugh at them as they shooed them out the door. The only opportunity where Marijuana can become addictive is if the user's environment is so dull and uninspiring, they need to constantly smoke to find something to do. I don't have that, and that's why I smoke it for a different kind of pleasure. That's really all marijuana use is for, really: a different form of pleasure. You can find pleasure in other aspects of life, yes, but you can't experience the same kind of effect from marijuana as you can, let's say, hiking up a mountain, breathing in river-air, and enjoying the qualities of nature.
I do that a lot too.
The only argument against marijuana I can agree with is that it makes people okay with being bored (thank you South Park).
I thought that whole episode was about the abuse of the "Medicinal Marijuana" practice.
[The concept of Medicinal Marijuana is a joke. I hate the term "Medicinal Marijuana", it just makes marijuana something it isn't. What is the difference between "Medicinal Marijuana" and, let's say, "Recreational Marijuana"? Nothing.]
I also agree with you on the whole issue with prisons. Prisons make their money from jailing people, they'll take anything they can get. The prison system is a corporation now instead of a safeguard for the populous: when they can exploit the rights of the people to make a profit, that's when you know there is something wrong.

Questions:
Which is more dangerous(physiologically)? Marijuana or tobacco?
Why is it not legalized?(no fancy conspiracy please)
