I honestly would say how freaking amazing this game looks, but I want you guys to check it out for yourself.
Dead Island is a survival horror zombie game that takes place on a fictional tropical island. A zombie outbreak starts, and you are left trying to survive. Apparently, the game is open ended, has lots and lots of zombies, and the actual story is good.
But if there is one thing that the game has that many games don't, is an amazing trailer:
But I dunno if I'm gonna get this game or not. I'm not into zombie anything, and the only zombie game I've ever liked was Dead Rising. This looks promising though.
I dunno.

Old thread but I'm kinda reviving it because I just learned this game has some kind of loot and rpgey in it. Haven't followed this game so anyone here who does and give me/us some info. It was compared to fallout by IGN but when I checked it maybe also a little of borderlands?

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.

Looks VERY similar to Borderlands. From what I've seen so far, you have an extreme amount of customization capability by creating weapons. You can also find and create weapons with varying attributes, like fire and electricity. Early in the game you don't get handguns, but melee weapons. From a lot of videos I've seen, you can THROW your weapons for greater damage. A review of a press demo I read on CNET said that throwing a weapon after it breaks was effective...
I haven't played it at all and I haven't kept up with it as much as D3, but from what I've seen and heard about it, it seems like it would keep me busy until D3's release date.
Like you, I wonder how similar it is to Borderlands. If it is HALF as much fun as Borderlands it would be incredibly worth it!

Cool, thanks dude. Yeah, borderlands series is now my second favorite game (used to be fallout) next to diablo series. If this game is kinda like borderland's loot, fps and skill tree game play then it looks exciting indeed.

The CNET review I read of the press demo (only allowing a 1-hour play through the campaign) noted that each of the characters had their own unique skill tree with weapon specialization. One guy, for instance, specializes in Blunt weapons, while another specialized in some type of gun. During the 1-hour play demo, they were not able to discover any ranged weapons but got their hands on many melee weapons.
I am not sure that the system will be all that similar to Borderlands, but I think it might enact the same craving for "Loot Runs" like Borderlands, the Diablo series and even the now-deceased Hellgate: London game. Btw, they have a currently running beta for Hellgate: London. It combines Hellgate: London and an expansion released in another country. No expected release date yet.
I've been keeping a close eye on this game on Steam. I love zombie horror games though many zombie games I've ever played turned out to be such a disappointment. So I'd really have to see this thing go on sale before giving up any money for it.
This caught my interest. It has mindless killing, RPG elements... AND MULTIPLAYER... and the zombie killing is looking really fun, especially in melee.
I'm hoping there's lot of stuff to find, and that the RPG stuff matters. I didn't find much info on the game. I want something that doesn't feel like nothing ever changes (L4D...). Killing zombies for the sake of killing gets old. Killing zombies, finding neat stuff, and improving your character, with a friend, now we're talking... but I just have no idea how far it takes any of those.
Also Jake you may be interested in this guys series. Shows a lot of item customization and skills when leveling. Pretty cool stuff. Looks like a blast and is co-op.
Saw the videos and looks fun but it could use more polish and the attention to detail is lacking but seeing as a new game it's understandable. The voiceovers doesn't fit some of the npcs and the repetitive one liners can be annoying if this game is made to be played for 100+ hours (toggle off option maybe). This games potential is good but I'm going to wait and see. Thanks for the infos.

Okay so far the game has a few bugs here and there, mostly involving online seems like servers weren't prepared to handle it. Anyways great game.
If you like the Diablo style of weapons you will probably enjoy this. The smashing and dicing up of zombies never gets old, the quests are fun, the weapon modifications are pretty awesome. Even upgrading weapons changes appearance, as well as needing to be repaired. My wood baton for instance was almost in splinters.
The story is not in your face, but it has a lot of depth if you look for it. The skill trees are a lot more varied than I originally thought. If you like to kill zombies I definitely recommend this, co-op is a blast, you can set out on your own, or you can stick together and murder stuff.
Apparently they released the dev build by accident or some such non sense.
I did not yet buy the game. I heard there is no FOV option and the base FOV is pretty small.
I'm not buying without a FOV option, period. If they forget about basic things like this, can't help but wonder about all those things I can't think about right now that is bad and consolized. So until they get their asses working on patches for proper PC features, they're not getting a penny from me.

Yeah looks like co-op is the way to go for this game. Game really looks fun but I decided to put it on hold till it's on sale or my friends decided to get it.

That sucks. I'm looking for a PC review. All I've seen are console review so far.

Haha thanks. I try
I don't think there are any. I've been looking but all attempts have been unsuccessful.
