Evening, honorable gentlemen of this fine website devoted to the unmatched glory that is the Diablo series. There have been some pretty interesting discussions about various aspects of Diablo III here, but I have observed none pertaining the structure and locations that we will get to visit in the acts.
By taking a good look at the new revamped map and at some of the artwork that graces the DIII website, one can make some guesses as to what we should expect. Here are mine, feel free to ad yours.
Without chronological order:
a) Kingdoms of the West act: Developers already said that the game starts in Tristram, so it's a sure bet we'll revisit some old favorites here, but for the third visitation to the Diablo universe I hope we get to delve further in places such as Westmarch or perhaps (but unlikely) Entsteig.
Kehjistan act: One of the new locations we'll get to visit is Caldeum, so maybe this decaying city will be the hub of an act, and since it look to be a massive place maybe the progression will be something like this: The slums of Caldeum, then advancing into nicer zones of the city, and finally unraveling some kind of conspiracy involving Belial perhaps? Next you go into the semi-arid wilds in pursuit of the demon, who is heading to Ureh to seize some kind of untold power. The map kind of suggests this as Caldeum and Ureh are relatively near.
c) Xiansai & Scosglen act: I think it's time for Blizzard to reveal these regions, as they are some of the most enigmatic of Sanctuary (not to mention they are very far from the regions were the other games took place). For this act, maybe we will get to travel trough the corrupted forests of the druids, with the hub in Xiansai (it's no coincidence they put a name to this previously unnamed island). I get a hunch that Azmodan, the Lord of Sin (in some views the sin means corruption) is messing real bad with the Druid homeland, and we'll be tasked with the cleansing of Túr Dúlra, (a la Monastery). Here's hoping a heavily corrupted form of the Sacred Oak Glór-an-Faidhá ( or maybe Azmodan fused with the Oak?) as the End Act Boss.
d) Amazon Isles act: I feel there needs to be an act with a kind of "sea theme", and isles such as Skovos (if my memory is correct Skovos has been mentioned by th DIII developers) fit perfectly the bil. I realize that currently there is not much love for Warcraft here, but in the Frozen Throne expansion of WCIII, you get to explore the Broken Isles and the Tomb of Sargeras. I SO liked that setting, with it's "long lost empire" vibe, something similar for the Amazon Isles would be great, and let's not forget there is a great mountain stepped in the lore located there (Mt. Karcheus sp? I think)
e) Former Barbarian Higlands act: If we are lucky we'll be seeing firsthand the effects of the Worldstone destruction all over the wilderness, it is a premise that sets the stage for many fantastic sights. The change of the area to "Dreadlands" is and interesting one indeed, and I hope the route goes trought them into a progressively more war torn landscape and finally into the battlefields surrounding Arreat Crater. Pure ownage if they implement something like this. And then, the third strike to hell follows, as we enter the fiery rift in the crater...
As the thread title says, this is purely speculation, but it is great fun taking chances at what content we will be getting when the game it's ready. =) As for the expansion, a foray into the Teganze jungles and the Ruins of Inarius Cathedral of Light? Jejeje. Let's stop it now.
Finally, I have one, very important question: Got tequila? (I'm mexican, by the way.) =)
There will be none of these, instead it will all be the same grassy colorful pretty areas you are used to in WoW, do not fret blizzard knows what they are doing, they will attract plenty of the right types of people to this game with their plan.
Billy " OH BOY! I CANT WAIT TILL DIABLO 3, IT LOOKS SO COOL AND MORE COOLER THEN WORLD OF WARCRAFT, MOMMY WILL BUY IT FOR ME BECAUSE OF NO MONTHLY FEE!"
Hai. Never played World of Warcraft, and never will. And finally, your humor skill tree fails big time. Kthanxbie. Anyone willing to discuss the topic?
but anyway, I really like your ideas on the Acts. Especially the Sacred Oak Glór-an-Faidhá being corrupted against us. I'm sure in one way or another we'll find out the tree has fallen to malevolent forces.
I do hope that we will see a Kurast that has been somewhat rebuilt. I would love to see the city in it's prime once again, though I doubt it. Still, a return to it to see, at the very least, Hratli and Ormus wouldn't be bad. lol.

Blizzard is not responsible for the death and loss of your hardcore characters for any reason including Internet lag, bugs, Acts of God, your little sister, or any other reason whatsoever. Consult the End User License Agreement for more details. Blizzard will not, and does not have the capability to restore any deceased Hardcore characters. Don't even ask. La-la-la-la-la, we can't hear you..,
I second the return of Hratli and even more Ormus. They were some of the most interesting NPC'S. Also Drognan wouldn't be a bad pick, although I think Lut Gholein will not make an appearance in DIII. There are far more interesting settings left to explore.
Oh, definitely. Drognan, Ormus and Hratli were NPCs that, even in D2, had depth in them and great opportunity in exploring that depth. I mean, Ormus is this tall, regal-looking fellow that speaks in an eloquent, albeit third-person fashion. He knows Skatsimi rites and must be older than we can guess - I mean, the Skatsimi have been dead for hundreds of years? How does he know their magic then? Why does Hratli and Natalya distrust him? Is it because of that knowledge?
Hratli himself is very eloquent and intelligent, likely being a very prominent figure in native magic himself before Kurast began to decay. He seems reluctant to divulge in some information about himself and is very quizzical about other people residing in the docks.
And Drognan, obviously, was once a very powerful and revered Vizjeri. Why is he no longer?

It could be a shot in the dark but, wouldn't it be awesome if Ormus turned to be a survivor of the Mage Clan Wars? That'll explain why Natalya has suspicions about him

Didn't the M.C.W's happen, like... Pre-Horadrim establishment?

My knowledge of the lore is quite liimited, but in the Diablo universe many things seem possible. A nearly immortal mage wouldn't be a big deal. =) Or I just tought, the shadow within Ormus that Natalya taks about could be of demonic origin... Theorizing fascinates me! Anyways, also more background lore about Skatsim would be welcome.
Your ideas are pretty good.
I definitely want to see Ureh.
When I first thought about Ureh... the "lost city" it kinda made me think about Irem from the Cthulhu Mythos, except Irem was completely hidden by the Desert Sands.

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
Nicely done. I admit, I'm not one of the lore follower, even though I have been with D2 since the beginning. I played D1 after D2 and didn't like it much.
These certainly sound like viable options thought. I know the final act will be one hell of an area to visit nonetheless.

"The gaming public now has focus on Diablo again, and with it comes the modern-age of trolling and jackassery."
I'd like to go back and visit the Rogue's Monastery and see if they were able to restore their order after the poor ladies got messed up by Andy. It'd be cool to have them run one of the "bases of operation" for the acts. It'd be nice to meet up with the NPCs from Act 1 again. Of course Akara seemed pretty old in D2 and 20 years have passed so she might be sitting down or something.
I think it would be somewhat fitting to have to venture into the fiery hole that was left by the asteroid where Mt. Arreat once stood.
A return to what we once knew, corrupted and mangled almost unrecognizable.
Perhaps there would be tiny shards of Worldstone glittering in the dirt?
Asteroid? It was the destruction of the Worldstone by Tyrael that left that massive crater, most likely. The mountain was destroyed from within, not by an exterior force. And now that we discuss that area of Sanctuary, I remembered one NPC, that I would also like to see return: Anya, now wisened by the years and embittered by the razing of her homeland.

Nice speculation but you just forgot one important location which fans have been craving to go for a long time.
I did it on purpose, since I believe that would be the kind of material suitable for an expansion, and frankly, I wanted to get some sleep real bad. I suppose we'll see a much greater involvement of Heaven in the affairs of Sanctuary, but to actually visit it is another thing entirely.:) Anyways, I don't deny that a trip to Heaven (preferably under SIEGE) would be kickass.

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.
