We currently have no intentions to allow LAN games, we are focusing fully on Battle.net, where we not only have the ability to quickly connect with other players, but also to the Blizzard community.
Sooo, whatcha think? I really can't see another reason why they'd cut off the other ways of playing coop unless they want to force you to play battle.net 2.0, therefore making you, *sigh,* pay2play.

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
"If it's confirmed, then Blizzard has definately turned me off the game completely. They are requiring me to have an internet connection in order to play with my friends. They make the game so that everyone can play on their computers with their "simplified" graphics, and then they make it so that everyone is required to play online if they want multiplayer?
Sorry, I don't buy the Battle.net 2.0 is going to be just like heaven and completely perfect. I don't like to rely on such a thing for playing multiplayer. If the "Blizzard Community" = what already exists on Battle.net and WoW, then I can happily do without. Of course, they aren't giving us that choice and they are forcing us online to a sub-standard system.
And if it's P2P? All of us require an account to play? Garbage. Blizzard isn't making a sequel to Diablo II, they are making a prequel to World of Diablo. There is zero good coming from this announcement.
Thanks Blizzard for completely ruining the D3 multiplayer experience before it even launches. (This is, of course, a rant under the assumption that what is said is ending up in the final launch, of which I have very little doubt)."
they main reason they would be taking away lan support is probably because of the possibilities for multiplayer on illegal copies, and maybe they want the most people to buy the game, even more then 1 copy in the same house.
and monthly fees for a game that doesn't need any, doesn't really fit on my monthly expenses list, life is too expensive as it is already.
That sounds baaad. And not because of P2P possibilities, but because if you ask me that's a hidden anti-piracy conspiracy. Which is pretty unusual for Blizzard. LAN is NOT hard to implement. Why would they not implement it? Makes no sense at all.
I don't think it's hinting at anything other than they're shifting their focus from 50/50 online vs. single player to something revolving around online play more. This won't effect me personally, but I know a number of people that enjoy the single player aspects of D2 much more than the online, and they will likely be disappointed with this when D3 is released.

Why can't a heterosexual guy tell a heterosexual guy that he thinks his booty is fly?
If a company wants to get more money by preventing piracy, you can put a big fat black X on that company. It means they are not confident that their game will sell and that people will prefer to buy it not pirate it.
Because of the horrible experiences with lamers and gutless PKers in battlenet we abandoned it, purchased two more copies of DII and then three copies of LoD and two more computers, 1000T ethernet cabling, since 802.11n and so on.
Our DII LAN games rock.
Blizzard must make sure they really do get battlenet 2.0 right or else our D3 "fun" will suck.
An advantage of LAN play is being able to cheat on your own terms amongst friends / family. Before PvP we backup our heroes. We also experiment with skill point allocations and so on and if it doesn't work out we just roll back.
If I can't respec in D3 and I'm forced to play on battlenet 2.0 then I'l just build safe characters - cookie cutters. That takes away a lot of the fun.
--------------------------
If the whole reasoning of forcing people on to battlenet is to prevent dupes then I'll live with not being able to dupe in our private games. We'll argue more about sharing gear but so be it. If the reasoning is to prevent illegal copying of games then Blizzard is just pissing into the wind.
The new Apple iPhone was hacked in a couple of hours. Vista and Mac OSX cracks are everywhere on the net. Diablo 3 will be a piece of cake. Why not just ensure uniqueness of CD/DVD keys and ensure that the key was actually assigned to a pressed disk?
Remember, real fans and those who value the game as "excellent" will definitely purchase. Concentrate on excellence Blizzard!

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.

What about private open battle.net games just for your friends?
I never found too much of a purpose for LAN when I could just do Open/closed battle.net with friends.
I dunno why they'd be taking it out though.
Plus your last post too:
Problem of internet lag. Mainly.
If the ability to dupe and rollback/respec -* in private *- is lost while playing on some kind of battlenet mode then I'll be disappointed.
Having said that, I have a "best best" friend in my city why can't play at my place and if the battlenet experience this time around has improved then this will be indeed cause for celebration!

I think we'll be seeing respeccing in the game anyhow from what it sounds like, and if they keep Open Battle.net the way it was we'll be able to cheat hack do whatever we want.
I played Open a lot with friends because I couldn't get them to play closed but we had a agreement, the only things we would edit/hack was stamina and gold.
im gonna mis lan... thats usually how i pvm with my brother.... other than that i just duel on bnet... if its p2p... fuck d3...no way... no how am i paying for a videogame more than once...
The fact that Blizzard isn't 100% sure that Diablo III won't be subscription based REALLY REALLY pisses me off. Does it piss anyone else off? It's like saying "fuck you fans! we want our money bitches!!". God...

Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
I'm sure it won't be a monthly charge if they want any money for Battle.net 2.0 at all.
So I hope they don't.

Hopefully they at least include that.

They've said they'll develop the game first, then the selling mechanics.
