I think the graphics on Diablo 3 should be better for how long blizzard takes to make a game... every time blizzard makes a new game it takes them so long by the time it actually comes out the graphics are ancient. I always have very high end graphics cards and they are talking about corpses that disappear, I think Blizzard needs to offer more graphics options for people who have $2000-3000 gaming setups that are going to be able to run this game no problem. Blizzard always focus on the people who can't afford good computers and never make any high end graphics options for people who actually have high-end graphics setups. Now that Blizzard is partnered with ATi now I would hope ATi would push them in this direction so they can sell more graphics cards too. I really hope that Diablo 3 in Direct X 10 will be a entirely new experience from Diablo 3 in Direct X 9.
I'm sure they have thought of these factors (for the 50th time......). We have only seen one gameplay trailer, that is it. Sure there are some factors that need reconsidering, but anymore talks on graphics now is ancient. The fact that those with low end comps overwhelm those with high end comps is enough for blizzard to aim their game towards the low end comps.
I myself have quite a high end comp, and played games like Crysis. Well, the game was horrible, rubbish and waste of my life. Games with good graphics mean nothing, if the gameplay is good, then the fun never ends.
Some factors cannot be configurated, such as corpse disappearing. Since the corpses are probably gonig to be of some use in battle.
Companies that focus strictly on making their product for the wealthy individuals will 9 times out of 10 fail. A majority of the people that will be playing this game are not able to afford a $2500.00 computer. You can think that it is an unfair way of life but you have to consider something.
Video games are like books and movies. They have a target audience. The target audience for Diablo III is probably unable to afford those extremely expensive computers. On top of all of that I think the graphics look pretty good.
At the same time I agree with you. I don't think corpses should disappear and I also think we have moved into an era where graphic quality is extremely important. I don't even play video games that have horrid graphics, WoW excluded. WoW got special treatment because my friends play the game and it is a place to socialize and continue playing an entertaining game.

diablo in directx 10 would be no different from dx9, Dx10 is a marketing scam from microsoft that didnt work too well, the games on DX9 look the same and run better.
+ you dont need that much money to make a good gaming machine these days ( unless you are running games on a screen that needs uber resolutions above 1680x1050)
D3 graphics are good, if you want to run a game that will put a 3000$ gaming machine to a test, run crysis, its pretty much the only game that needs one of those to run at max details.
DX10 utilizes shaders and rendering techniques that DX9 can not. I'm not saying that DX10 is the end all be all of computer gaming, however it does present a leap in technology over DX9. The real problem like someone already said, is that most people can't shell out thousands of dollars for a computer that is going to run a game in DX10, not to mention build their own computer, or know what kind of graphics card, processor, and memory to get.
Blizzard has always kept things fairly low-tech because they don't want to lose sales by alienating customers who have lower end machines. It just makes sense, and they still manage to put out amazing titles.
Yeah we'll probably see some sliding scale textures and detail etc. Kind of like a lot of the other recent games. WoW, Dungeon Siege 2, all those.
I think the different lighting and shading effects will be interesting too. I'm certain that my current machine won't run the game to my expectations. So I'll probably invest in a new computer near its release.
The game looks fine currently to me. I don't expect a hacknslash to look like Crysis or Elder Scrolls: Oblivion or I wouldn't play it.
Some people wouldn't be able to play it. This is really where Blizzard has learned a good lesson. They are able to bring their game to a broad audience while making it look good and the requirements low.

While we're kind of on this topic, do you guys think that my computer will run it? I always thought it would but I've been seeing a lot of people think their machines won't so...

I plan on upgrading my GFX Card but I can run WoW full settings pretty much no problem as of now so...
Everything is good except GFX card but since you're planning on upgrading - yes you should be able to play it. Take this with a grain of salt since blizzard havent released minimum/suggested requirements yet, but my single core 3700 works quite well with games so yours should work good Dont buy a new gfx card until around D3 gets released unless you really need to for other games. The prices will go down and technology will go up.
I really can't see how you think that the graphics in DIII are "ancient" - I think it looks fantastic, and even though I have a high-end gaming pc I don't mind it not being pushed to the utmost max.. All games have options that allow for better performance contra better 3d effects, and I'm quite sure that blizzard will do the same for DIII.
It's just that people look at games that have been released almost a year ago (Crysis, CoD4, etc.) and compare it with Diablo III, which has not yet been released, there's a clear difference. But Blizzard knows what they are doing, and I agree with them.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
and whats the problem? when you look at this from a business standpoint, the lower u make the sys req the more people who are going to buy the game because it can run on their 5 year old piece of shit.
My only big complaint about the graphics is that the armor is not shiny or metalic. They have such wonderful reflections on the water, why give us wooden looking armor?

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.

I told myself I'd keep this thread open until someone started discussing game aesthetics alone. And now I get to close it.
