I think you missed most of what I said. Specifically: "I think we're all confusing trading with giving."
Am I against he transfer of items on the battefield? No. I don't care. It's TRADING I don't want to see. The wuw, wug, wuw, wug ordeal. Even just putting an item in the trade window to show people will annoy me. But you can't have the transfer of items without the possibility of people wasting time showing items or trading so I would rather just say no to it all. Items can wait and if you ninja potions you suck really hard at life.
And FYI: all 3 examples (A,B,C) you gave of trading were not trading they were giving. Please read the line after that.

Let's not get into symantecs of calling it "trading" vs. "giving."

I'm the monsta - The boogieman
So mothers be warned - But you give them up gladly
I personally couldn't care less. Trading is trading, weather you can do it in the heat of battle or inside the borders of town. If everyone had the option of trading wherever they wanted, then it doesn't matter. We trade here or there, location is just idiotic when you have it. If you don't, it wouldn't matter anyways. It's simple.
Oh, and I don't think Quill Rat's have an ass. *gets whacked with the metal pipe*

One rule about me: If I'm going to tolerate your insanity, you will tolerate mine.
Almost all men can stand adversity. If you want to test a mans character, give him power.
You see what power is; holding someone else's fear in your hand and showing it to them.
Let's not get into symantecs of calling it "trading" vs. "giving."
Giving and trading are not synonymous so it has nothing to do with semantics. I doubt you would say your company gives you money. You'd probably say you get paid for the work you do. Not many people would claim semantics there. I use giving as the act of giving an item to someone on the field. This is fast becaue you don't want anything in return. Trading takes time...much more time than going to town. Unless, as I said before, you know exactly what the other person wants for the item and you happen to have it on you at that time.
What I'm basically driving at is does the option of trading in the field hinder gameplay and I think yes. There are enough annoying people that will waste time in d2. This is mainly why I solo. Again, if you can drop items for a certain player only I never see a situation where not being able to trade outside town will be a problem.

1. The hassle of going to town for a trade usually doesn't even compare to how much of a hassle the trade itself is, so there is not much to win here.
2. If it were possible, I am sure PK'ers would exploit it by diverting your attention and then training mobs on you.
3. It would be annoying if people suddenly invited you for a trade while you're in the middle of a fight
4. It doesn't work in Hardcore. Either you have to keep convincing people to go to town to trade with you, or you risk losing your character to death while trading.
I agree with number four. No excuses there. Three would be an opinion (which I agree with). Number Two is a matter of trust really. Number one I don't understand at all. You were for the other three saying how bad it was, but here you were saying that it's a hassle of only going to town, then there's the hassle of trading itself. Explain?

i said no. casue well. just seeing something drop and trying to pick it up. i would get attacked majorly. i would rather kill in the battlefield then say oh hey thats a cool sword!! what you want for it?
I'm glad that blizz has the final word on some things. I think blizz is going to look at this and say:
we could leave trading to towns or incorporate some system that auto detects when its ok for trades to happen (enemies near, etc.) and also auto-cancel trades if it becomes dangerous while a trade is happening and also notifies other party members that a trade is going on so they dont continue to fight and im sure the list would go on if i wanted to spend the time on it.
And please. I will say this again, and probably even again after this. You DO NOT need to open a trade window to give a potion to a friend. just drop it. as far as items go, something like if you drop an item over a party members portrait it drops just for them, otherwise its a free for all.

Here comes a very much genetic l4d reaction: PLAY WITH FRIENDS NOT PUBLIC
Problem with griefers and abusers solved.
I dont want to limit all my games, quests, and mf runs to just playing with friends (of which I might have 1-2 to begin with) just because of this.

Could also be abused, if we are going into that direction.
Let's drop a lot of potions into that guy so that his inventory is full 99% of the time harharhar.
Seriously, everything can be abused, just play with people that don't abuse them.
Drops....on the ground....not is placed in his inventory. please read.

I'd like to see some really quick trades. I would suggest adding a 15 second limit to trades before they automatically close out, BUT that might get annoying and cause a lot of problems/complaints... anyone else have any ideas to make them quick.

A: You find a barbarian item, but you are a sorc. Your best friend is playing and is a barb. You link him the item in chat (because for this scenario he can see what stats it has).
And he needs it. Now you just can trade on the battlefield and be ready for the action instead of going to the city what you did in D2.
B: Potions, if they will be there, it might be a good way to trade them if you need mana and the other needs health.
C: Your inventory is full, but your friend still has room. Make him carry your items.
Maybe only one way trades could be allowed, with an item slot for one player(the one with the potion) and the option of a gold slot for the other(a sort of a tip).
trading was sick in D2 but it was annyoing when you were battleing and accidently clicked on your friend one time whilst in the middle of killing diablo himself my friend and i got into a trade with out realising it
but than again you can drop it, all in all is it rly that important??? maybe you could set and option for tarding or no tarding when creating a server??
Well, seeing how drops are local, perhaps they wont see the drops? Thought about that hmm?
You forgot to do that thing called reading again. You drop the item over the players portrait and it drops only for them. (because of the local drops).

And how about being able to "Announce" a given item?
So that your allies can know before-hand what they might get and what you're willing to give...
Otherwise, I voted yes.. it's a necessary measure if inventory is going to be limited (and specially with bags if they really stay in final version)...
Ok, in my opinion it would be a bad idea, i mean Come on! what happens when your trading and you dont notice an elite/unique monster coming up on you?
You get your self killed is what. you may think its a good idea to be able to trade out of town. but what happens when someone goes hostle and then trades his buddy when your not lookin for a belt of full juv's?
its just my opinion but i hope you take it into consideration
No - takes you out of the action. It can wait for town.
if it is you and a friend, then they can throw down the item in the heat of battle. But i think the actual trading and bartering can wait until town. That would be annoying as all hell. having to wait for 2 members of ur party to sit and negotiate
Why the hell not ?
Would be nice to be able to do some quick trading every now and then to get new stuff, will probably be needed even more since the drops won't be a free-for-all.
