Yes. At Blizzard's real money auction house. Every other answer is just wrong, because every other way to sell stuff for real money is not only unsafe, it might even get you banned.
I play D3 without an authenticator, but I'm a tough guy.
Being tough has nothing to do with it. It's a free service and having it is that added extra security to your account to avoid being hit by a hacker. I hope you are just being facetious.
No, he's totally right. I mean, I'm using an authenticator because I don't care and don't mind the extra safety, but to be honest, sometimes it's annoying having to check my smartphone for the authenticator code when I just want to log in real quick to play a few minutes.
If you're not using an authenticator, you need to be a bit more careful with your account, but if you think about it... 90% of people getting hacked will get hacked even when using authenticator; 90% of people who never get hacked are behaving so reasonably, they won't really need an authenticator.
Anyways, I'd still recommend anyone to use an authenticator. Anyone not using it should never ever complain if they get hacked. (But it's not like the authenticator giving you 100% security, either... nothing does)
1) In USA, to sell items on RMAH for real cash (not bliz credit), you need phone SMS thing, not authenticator.
2) Not everyone has a smartphone, so authenticator is not free for those (7$ for physical one).
It's not as secure as using a separate device, but it's better than nothing and it gets around any limitations Blizzard imposes for people who don't have authenticators.

...and if you disagree with me, you're probably <insert random ad hominem attack here>.
Use the RMAH. /thread

And I might add, if you are playing Diablo III without an authenticator, you are just asking for trouble.

Sure it is. http://code.google.com/p/winauth/
