-They did playtests on both the main story-line and all 'open world' features along with crafting, PVP, multiplayer and side quest testing, i think this is even more proof the game will be released by Q4 next year.
-They show some item drops and talk about art, story telling & "camps" (zones you clear to create waypoints)
-This test doesn't show the entirety of their progress. (quote below)
-They state "we aren't in alpha or beta yet", but they clearly have most of the game complete and are in the last couple stages before entering Alpha. I predict they'll enter Alpha by the end of this year/early next year and release by x-mas next year. w00t.
"As is the case with many other game and technology companies at the time of writing this, the Diablo IV team has fully transitioned to working from home. While the transition has introduced challenges, we feel very fortunate to be able to keep momentum going strong on the development of Diablo IV."
& "It’s worth noting that the playtest also didn’t represent the entirety of our progress. Other regions of the game are underway."
The lack of a "COVID-19 Delay" announcement plus this paragraph here shows the pandemic hasn't delayed D4 at all.
What does Blizzard gain by lying about where they are in production? If they say they are early on in development, I believe them. They have no reason to lie.

lying? lol. no ones "lying" man. Its clearly for PR. The company has a bad rep for delaying games, so they are being smart this time and not promising the public anything so they don't have to apologize for it later if/when its delayed. So they do in fact have something to gain. Less negative PR and and then extra positive PR when its launched sooner than expected.
Yes, when i say i think its coming out Q4 2021, thats the best and earliest possible release IF everything goes smooth. 1 bump in the road and that jumps to mid-late 2022
I think they only completed like 1 zone\act ? So they still need to do ALOT.
We might see a closed alpha by the end of next year? But the chances are likely we will see something public within 2\3 years.
I mean they didnt say "not even Blizzard soon" for nothing.
They are too early. They still havent created alot of things which take time. Let alone balancing, adjusting and tuning it.
Blizzard saying "its not even blizzard soon" right after very first announcement of existence means nothing. it was intentionally vague. No game is any standard or variation of "soon" RIGHT after its official announcement. Stupid to even ask. They are being smart this time and not promising the public anything.
balancing and adjustments are done in alpha-beta, not before. They also mentioned in the june dev update that what you're seeing in the demo's are not everything they have done. Which i put in the OP, which you again didn't read.
to be honest, this is the first time they said "not even BLizzard soon", so, dont get your hopes high, i think we are talking at least 2 years for a full release (state of art to play).
2022 is late for Diablo 4 release. Its engine isn't that good to face the potential new aRPGs being developed atm. If they delay D4 to 2022 they'll make a mistake. No matter in what state the game is, it has to drop next year or they risk getting smashed by better games and lose a big portion of the player base they aim to get.
The truth is Diablo 4 is a great game for 2020, but it would be mediocre in 2022 since the games market is so dynamic. Diablo 4 has to capitalize on what it is in 2021. That's my personal opinion.

No i definitely agree. With PoE 2, TL3, wolcen and other ARPG's coming out and trying to compete, D4 is no longer very unique or seems overly polished compared to other games. Unless they hit some major delay, we'll see the game next year :).

Q4 2021 is exactly 2 full years from announcement.
Can't repeat this enough, Blizzard saying "its not even blizzard soon" right after very first announcement of existence doesn't mean anything. No game is any standard or variation of "soon" RIGHT after its official announcement. lol. It's hilarious anyone is giving any thought to that random vague comment when it was said literally right after its announcement, why would someone even ask? It's obviously going to be at least 2 years from its announcement. So yea NOT 'soon' or 'not blizzard soon' derp. derp. Like anyone didn't know that already. Blizz wouldn't have announced the game at all if it thought it was 3-4 years out still.

D4 open Alpha/Beta is coming after the virtual Blizzcon. Get ready!
Open? probably not. Im expecting a closed alpha and then the closed beta followed by open beta. i thought thats the natural order of things.
Well, q4 is the first date, at the best.
