I have everything needed and as I went to reinstall D2 after so many years, it stops short of completing the expansion installation. So I went ahead and downloaded a copy of the disc off the net, and since I have my own cd key I should be able to play online.
Everything seemed to work, but when I try to get onto battle net is says my internet connection isn't working? I really have no idea what is going on.
Maybe my firewall?... I'll have to look into this and if anyone can suggest an idea I would be grateful. Thanks.
It seems like this is only happening when I try log into the USwest realm. Every other realm (except this new classic beta realm) is fine. Is USwest just down for the moment? Because I live in Australia and want the best ping possible - without having to resort to the Asia realm which I can't communicate in.
Oh I figured out the problem. After a little snooping on the official D2 forum I realize that my account has been suspended for repeated use of the wrong cd key - which is what I tried to log in with at first by accidentally using the bad cd key that came with the expansion disc download.
It just doesn't tell me how long this restriction is going to be...
The CD key you see online is the same as the one you entered for that game so that you could download it, or at least it is for me, so I don't see how that's possible besides human error.
I'm glad that you figured the situation out. Have you tried looking through Blizzard's Diablo II errors Q&A from their site?
Sorry about that, should have instead edited my first post like you changed it too.

Yeah that's where I got the info from, and I'm not quite sure what you're asking. A while back I downloaded the entire d2 set off the net to play single player because I thought I lost my copy, and I never uninstalled it again. Now when I found my copy and tried installing it, it obviously took me straight to the game at which point I tried to log into Bnet but that was a wrong move because it was with the bad cd key from the net. After reinstalling the game with my cd keys I couldn't log into the USwest realm because they banned me for using an invalid key.
You get temp banned for using a bad key. It can last up to 72 hours.
I read that it was 2 weeks in threads made by a few users that had the same problem as me. Granted, it was 2 years ago so I'm not sure if anything has changed since then. Good thing I didn't post that new little snippet of info I found else that would have made me quad post :whistling:
Just for reference, as you mentioned you downloaded a copy of the net you can actually download a copy from battle.net providing you have an account and can provide a valid CD key.
I would use that method over torrents etc any day.
Yeah I brushed through the forum quickly, thinking maybe it was available for download but didn't come across it in my half a minute hunt. I can see why you would think that way but if you aren't worried about the viruses then I see no difference (except maybe if there are way more seeds on the legit download).
no need to look in the forums. open your battle.net account, go to "my games" and add your original cd-keys. after you do that you can download the client directly from there (and there's also a CD key added on top). plays without the cd too.

Did you download it from your Battle.net account or are you talking about a pirated version? When you supply your CD key for your game there, it allows you to download the entire game any time you want from their online client, but it will only do so if you provide a valid CD key, and any CD key you then find there is the exact one you entered. Since it's rigged to their databases and checks automatically, and only stores and returns your CD key you entered, it can't be invalid, I don't think..

Feel free to post anything you want (well, almost anything). Just don't double post. Sorry if my initial reply came out too harshly.

As far as I knew it was 72 hours but I haven't done any significant research on the matter. If you continued to spam logins it could possibly multiply the ban time? I know it does that in some instances as well.
Well I'm still banned, but I have been trying to log in plenty of times since I've been trying to tell if my IP suddenly changed. After lots of effort, I've come to learn first-hand that my IP address is one of the hardest to change, it's a static address that is pre-determined and only changes if my IP is detected to be having lots of trouble with viruses and such, else it stays the same. So it looks like I'm going to have to wait another week (hopefully).
I don't know how it works but I've heard of people spoofing their IP addresses. Making the server think it's a different one. You'd have to google it or ask someone else though.
If it's lightly scratched, you could car wax on it and wash it off with a smooth cotton cloth. It worked for my LOD cd, I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work on you DII cd ^_^.
Ok... well if your disc is scratched.. you dont need it.. why is this a hard concept? Your CD key from your disc will work to allow you to download the game from bnet and use the CD key from your messed up disc.. no issues.. easy as pie.
