I know it's known that this fucker is pesky as hell, right? I have a level 21 Bonemancer which i started off with yesterday. Bone spear is currently at around 85-111 damage and his life is at 190, an 80 defense Armor, a good Preserved Head and Yew wand, with half freeze duration and good overall gear. What I don't get, is what they were thinking, putting that fucker in that tight ass room, capable of killing my character with 2 hits, with me not being able to put out 2-3 spears without having to go back to town. It's fucking ridiculous how I have to get back to town 14+ times in order to kill him. Since I'm on single/multiplayer, I edited his life just to get rid of that nuisance because I totally didn't feel like dying on my 11th trip back due to a fuckup. I did however, reset everything back to normal when I got rid of him.
Duriel is malplaced, or rather very unforgiving. Andariel can be tough, but at least you can run around her in circles and wear her down.
But not only can Duriel dish out great damage, he also slows you , and no matter what you do you can't resist it. And he's not slow either come to think of it. They should either have removed his cold aura, or made him slower. For normal that is.
I think perhaps the developers wanted to prevent the player from running away from Duriel if he put you in a tight spot. What they missed was that you always get into a tight spot
But yeah, how did they miss that? It must have been pretty obvious in beta that he was slightly out of place? I mean Mephisto is easier.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Every time I played single player durry was always the biggest problem I faced regardless of what I made.....always found a merc made it a lot easier tho

I didn't miss it, I've known it for years, I'm just sharing my complete anger over this bullshit boss..yet again :-P
I can guy a merc, and I have a level 7 Bone Wall..but seriously, I'm completely not in the mood for tactical play or anything of that sort with Duriel..I just took the easy way out this time, since I've ALWAYS taken the time to kill him properly, no matter how hard.
Tome of town portal is your best ally against dury. I've never had a problem defeating him, sometimes it took a while to wear him down but I always did. Your half freeze duration has no effect on his demonic aura.

That's my point. It's obvious to everyone, so why not to Blizzard?
I'm fairly sure I had problems with him back when I played unpatched. Of course, that was my first time, and bosses shouldn't be a cakewalk firt time through. But still...

I've been playing forever, never with a Necro though..Melee characters never gave me any real problems..killing him with my Concentrate Barb was a breeze..Amazon/Sorceress/Necromancer are tough, in my opinion. I ran him down with my Trapassasin..he's just boring..not impossible, just fucking boring..portal, back, portal, back..what a waste of time man.
He's the coolest looking and sounding boss so it kinda balances out (Looking for Baal?!?). They should have had a bigger room with a bunch of pillars so you could get away easier.
He's very fast, the room is as big as a nun's anus, and he fucking freezes you, then deals a shitload of damage. Casters and Ranged classes take a long time to rid of him, but personally..I've had little to no problems with him using a melee character.
I don't think he's ever killed any of my characters..bar the Necro today, just because I opened a portal RIGHT NEXT to his chamber's entrance, and ended up going in not being ready, so he rapidly slaughtered my hiney.

Yes, it is absolutely vital that you use Town Portal when facing Duriel... I can't stress this enough. Even for the stronger melee characters, you're still going to find yourself in a situation where you'll be low on health, frozen, and out of mana, so you'll need to escape to rejuvenate quickly instead of dying, and risking your naked corpse against him while you try to pick up your body.
Duriel is probably the only boss in Diablo II that I actually set town portals to the belt slots for.
I go in with Town Portal on right click, cast it quickly, then start beating the shit out of his maggoty ass. I'm complaining about the time it takes, and the idiocy of it all, really.

Idiocy is right.....why is the second act boss many times harder then diablo or baal?? Makes no damm sence
He's fast, so there's no escaping him, and he hits you with his Cold Aura, so you're slower to attack, and he deals massive damage in that tiny room of his. Shit's ridiculous.
