I couldn't agree more. The sound, feel, and look of all of his attacks are exceptionally well done. When I first bashed a target across the map it felt so damn good. Then the first time I leapt into a group of mobs I was very impressed. They really nailed the way that he feels. It was a nice shift from the Wizard, who aside from his beam and knockback, feels rather uninspiring.
The Witch Doctor also feels pretty bad ass once you push 10+.
I just can't wait to see how things look and feel at 60, with great gear/enchants, and the runes I want. As of right now Barbarian is my favorite to play, followed by Witch Doctor. I still think Wizard is the most potent of them all though. I still think Barb can rival him with the right build and gear, since gear upgrades are the most noticeable on the Barb.
I agree, just hope they're not completely marginalized without godly gear like they were in D2. I love melee classes but they tend to hit a wall hard in this franchise if you're not constantly upgrading a weapon.
LOL i love when people just voice their opinion like its fact.
But yeah I played the Demon Hunter wasn't really feeling it at first but it def picks up. The Barb on the other hand just feels great right off the back, really tempted to play it as my main but gonna try out all the other classes first.
I think the barb is the easiest character to show off in such a low level. I think wizard will be f... awesome from lvl 27 plus when you get your full spell arsenal, when the meteors pours down from the sky and monster limbs flying everywhere;) and then its runes
In my opinion Barb looks great at start and work their way up in a linear curve.
While the other characters will grow some more exponentially.
Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"

What ya think?
this. barbarian will be awesome and improve with level but will only get so good. he lacks serious utility that every other class has so hes pure defense and strength which wont be enough in all cases. especially in inferno. i think he wil be the most difficult to use in inferno by far.

"once the pretty hardcore gamers we had testing inferno found it fairly difficult, we then we doubled it" -trolololol jay wilson
Can you please put it in simple terms so I can understand it (or anyone else). What is the "utility" that he lacks? He is made to be in the thick and he is damn good at it. Skill/Stats synergy is off the chart.
I've tried to make a build with DH/Wizard but their skills bore me.
Utility - having or made for a number of useful or practical purposesratherthanasingle, specializedone
the barb has no real CC type abilities besides battle shout. which just reduces dmg. his knockback abilities are useless because he is melee, so unless hes going to flee there is no point. knockback from ranged classes are actually good because it keeps them from taking dmg while continually attacking from a distance. the monk also doesnt have much utility either but at least he has uber healing capabilities along with defense like the barb.
the wiz has teleport, mirror image, frost nova, knock backs, slows, diamon skin which all can be used in offensive ways as well. same with the WD and the DH.
the one and only exception to this is a throw barb like in my signature. he has aoe and slows and knockbacks that are all useful since he is a ranged build.

I'm not sure I follow that explanation of utility. It is the sum of his arsenal that decides if he lacks or don't lack utility right?
This is not the case with the barbarian.
Barbarian offer reduced damage, CC (Ground Stomp, Grim Harvest, Intimidate), mobility, highest HP leech of all classes, range attack, limited "mirror image"(Call of the Ancients), HP/Armor boosters and increased toughness. He got the skills that he need.
Knockback is not useless for a melee. You can reduce the amount of mobs on you, you can create a path for escape or towards a target and more. Knockback combined with slow is a great tool.
If the barbarian were a pure brawler, just damage and nothing else. Fine, he would lack utility but even per your definition, he don't.
Just as you said, we will find out in inferno. I can even bet that I'll beat hardcore inferno before you do. Then again, boring if there is nothing at stake.
again, knock back is ONLY useful for escaping before you die. so you use it and run away and stop attacking all together till you heal. as ranged your always at a distance so knock back is essential and you keep attacking.
ground stomp is his only real CC spell. COTA has such a huge CD it definitely doesn't count... but his HP leech is alright. the only real great one is the ancient spear one though. gear can give you way more leach this his passive and rend runed doesn't return a lot.
are you challenging me VS. any class or barb vs barb? cuz i did plan on making a WD first. but ill make a barb first if you want to race. lulz. ill take that bet. i say whichever person kills the final boss in inferno first gets the other persons gear. forcing the other player to create all new gear.
and were basing this on time played on your account of that specific character not if someone finishes in real time because our jobs and life obviously will get in the way so whoever had more free time would auto-win. what do you say?

Nah, you choose whatever you want to play. I'm a diehard fan (and delusional) of the barbarian, hence the bet! : )
I'm not sure which server you will be on, but Ill be playing on EU.
Let's decide with played time on that specific character but a deadline 3 weeks (or so) post-release. Since it still need to be somewhat of a race and not optimizing time spent on the character. I'll be fair if you are.
Another challenge upon hardcore. Fun stuff.
i dont think itll take that long to beat inferno but ya agreed. although i didnt plan on making any HC characters anytime shortly after release. and we have to beat normal mode first before you could even make a HC character. can we just race on softcore first? lol. then whoever loses gets a second chance to win at HC

All valid comments, but I'd like to add my two cents on the viability/utility of the Barb. He's a tank/meatshield with skills that mitigate damage, rally the defenses of his allies, and oh, by the way, he can put out the dps. Not to mention, as was stated earlier, he hits with a 2-ton hammer that I can actually feel through my mouse--Kratos move over.
When you look at his skill set (http://www.diablowik...arbarian_skills) it positions him as a force to be reckoned with that will keep the squishy casters/ranged healthy whilst they rain in the damage and he smashes faces dual wielding epic awesomeness while ignoring the pain and fueling his rage.
Don't forget that although this game is soloable, it has a core of playing with friends. More friends, more enemies, more loot.

the number of mobs and loot does NOT increase from solo to co-op. FYI. blizzard has said this multiple times. they said you should be able to kill faster with a group which means faster loot, not more loot.

The chance to get a specific item, though, doubles, if you play with someone you know or you trust.
oh because you can give eachother gear if something drops for your friend that you need. true, but for me i like gear that IVE aquired, not someone else's giveaway even if it is my friend. playing with friends who are good and willing to share is def better then solo but solo is far greater then random co-op groups ive seen.

I have to agree with the OP. While I'll defiantly be playing the DH as my main for awhile, the barb feels so powerful, it's pretty satisfying to bash a zombie =D

the DH is the least liked it seems by a large margin, but ironically once i got to like 8 it seemed i was killing shit way faster then the other classes of even higher level since i was kiling from such a long distance. while the WD and wiz are also ranged the DH has faster projectiles. long range FTW

Ah--Forgive the embellishment--that should have read tougher/stronger enemies. Also, since everyone has their own loot roll, doesn't that have to increase the total number of drops, thus the total number of good drops, thus a higher chance for you or your buddy to get "that thing" you're looking for?
Please correct me if I'm way off base here.
Cheers!

if your counting your loot PLUS your friends loot then obviously. but loot is individual so YOUR loot isnt increased by being in co op. everyone gets their own loot as if they killed the mob themselves. if you and 3 buddies go hunting for a specific item then its like a search party so your chances would be x4. but obviously only 1 of you can use it. lol

@GladHeHadBeta (I do wonder what you will name yourself once the game is released except the obvious)
I'll be playing hardcore exclusively so can't do softcore play.
i won't really be coming back to this or any forum once its released lol. i only ever started coming here because i was goin nuts waiting for release and information.
well your going to have to beat soft core normal to create a HC character. so i guess if you die before you beat inferno starting all over will suck. which is why i mostly avoid HC, accidental/lag deaths ruining the game doesn't seem fun at all.
