Why would a blow dart ever have a chance to instant kill? We aren't talking about a high momentum projectile here. It wouldn't be able to penetrate the skull and obliterate the brain. From what I've read, they are mainly used to kill small prey or stun/tranquilize other prey. The syringe penetrates the skin and the momentum injects the substance. A bow and arrow wouldn't be very good for stunning or traquilizing as it is a high momentum, flesh tearin machine with a good chance to kill immediately.
You're wrong. South America natives used poison gettered from the back of toads to imbue their arrows. . . Researchers found that one poisoned arrow have enougth poison to kill around 4 adult humans or one jaguar. So those poisons were absulute deadly.
However it's bit strange to instant kill. Poison is allways a degenerative effect, so no poison could kill someone instantly.
I think the Blowdart skill would be sorta of posion damage bolt. The dart could have a shinning green aura, so the skill effect is noteble. He could simple do a consentrated and strong Damage of Time and have some passive skill to imbue it with stunning/slowing/confusing effects.

I never said darts couldn't be used to kill humans.
I was only disputing that the dart could instant kill. Obviously the killing power is based on the poison not the actual dart. Paper can become a deadly weapon with enough poison, or I could chuck poisoned grapes at you and hope I get one down your throat. The dart is just a carrier and way to administer the actual killing agent (certainly better than grapes or paper). Anyways blow darts without poison are about worthless as paper for killing someone. Death after a few seconds...maybe if the poison is injected into the heart, but instant...come on.
EDIT:
You seem to be disputing my arrows aren't good for stunning or tranquilizing statement. I stand by that.
I don't like the idea either. I prefer WD with melee-ranged weapons only.

As we are talking about an ultra-über special Witch Doctor poisen, it may be able to kill someone in few seconds (and that time would probably be a part of the death animation of the monster).
If I'm not wrong, you've just described his Locust Swarm spell.
The poisen of many wild animals can easily kill you. (Actually, arent there some chemical substances that can cause your hart to stop instantly?)

I'm glad you're not on the development team, or any where near Blizzard HQ.
And I'm keeping my thumbs up for Diablo MMORPG to be released at some point in the future.
Getting more and more off topic here. But, I would also like to see a Diablo MMORPG, but don't believe the technology is available to create a Diablo MMO that is true to the series yet. It would need to have massive amounts of action with potentially hundreds of people... Sounds good, but how would they do that?
If they decided to change it like all the other MMORPGs and have 1 monster which takes a minute to die, turning it into a grindfest... or yawnfest - That just wouldn't be Diablo anymore
Just imagine the computer hardware + internet connections required for Diablo game on a Massive Multiplayer scale... jesus
That would be absurd. The WD is strong enough as is, summoning pets, and acting as a light caster, more than making up for both the Druid and the Necromancer. Give him darts, and you'll add Amazon into that concoction, and end up with a massively overpowered character that is destined for stupendous nerfing.
I'm not with this idea, even if you guys meant it to be in a similar fashion to the Necromancer's Bone Spear or whatever. It would be too much. The Necromancer in Diablo II, when played by a professional is pretty much the most formidable. That being said by a guy who uses an Assassin and a Barbarian, which reflects the fact that I said that with naught bias.
Next thing to ensure cooperative play- one wd can get up on the shoulders of another and merge their masks into one gigantic scary mofo mask becoming...THE WITCH DOCTOR SHAMAN! Complete with inferno and resurrection capability! Spell will be called 'Gaze of Endugu' lol- how ridiculous but awesome would that be

How i think of it: A single plague skill, where he quickly takes out his blowdart thing and hits a single target for some damage over time.
No items or something. Its just a single item he automatically has when you use the skill. And yes, kinda like bone spear and i dont think its too much.
Do that, and you will have to do it for all the characters.
Take Diablo II as an example:
Assassin: Shoryuken/Traps
Sorc: Most offensive abilities
Amazon: Most offensive abilities
Barb: Leap Attack?
Necromancer: Bone Spear, Bone Spirit, Teeth
Paladin: Smit, Holy Bolt
Druid: Fuck if I know..who in the right mind plays a Druid?

Balance is not a matter of from how many classes that class have elements.
You cannot say the WD is strong because you don't kno the Damage/Hp/Duration of the pets, the damage done by the nukes and the viability of the curses.
Balance is (and ONLY is) a matter of MATH.
So make the numbers work well and you can have a balanced class that summon zumbi dogs, cast curses and use blowdarts.
Once we don't kno the numbers yet, there nothing we can talk about balance.
Also, think as the Wd is mix of nec and druid is your point of view. Imo he have a soc influence once Fire Skull is pretty much like a fireball, Fire Bats also seens like a new Inferno. So as the Wd have a soc influence the blowdart cna be see as a Cold Bolt once it's a bolting
spell that causes slow.

A) A Diablo MMO would simply be called "Sanctuary."
The WD already has two short range projectile attacks (skull of flame and firebats), so having another (blowdarts) in another tree wouldn't be crazy. If you look at how Blizzard is designing their skill trees, its based on having trees which are self-sustaining and have a good variety of offensive, defensive, melee, and ranged spells in each, but who's focus is clear.

And Blowdarts could have distincts advantages, like a greater range, a poison dot and/or a slow effect.
The ''machinegun blowdarts'' could be the addon of the Multistrike rune.

Man this skill would rock so much o/
Blow darts have a range up to 50 ft, compared to...a medieval longbow which could go up to 750 ft. I really dont see blow darts as being a long ranged weapon. However I could see them having some effect like massive slow on target or a super powerful but delayed poison kick.

Doesn't everyone say "That other class is OP"? Few people admit their class is the best because that leaves them open to ridicule when they get beat by a supposedly inferior class.
Anyways a blowdart skill would definitely not make WD overpowered unless Blizzard made the actual skill overpowered...10,000 damage over 2 seconds!

Don't mistake me for a fool who does not want to be ridiculed. I did not say that so I would not get "ridiculed", I said it because it's true. If you have a problem with that, go act smart elsewhere; you hold no chance here.

The necromancer in D2 already had shrunken heads
Not as shields. IMHO that whole bit was stupid - how do u block with a tiny shrunken head?
I meant shrunken heads in a skill-based way.

By Diablo 2 standards, that would be underpowered
I guess if it is a single target skill...but wasn't poison nova around 5k per 2 seconds?
