So I had an interesting revelation today. Recently, I've had to analyse two separate novels for school; one paper delivered in Swedish and one delivered in English. I got both of them returned to me today, with corrections.
My English one was very good; I think I had two or three grammatical errors in total. My Swedish one however... well I'm counting 20+.
And it strikes me, I barely read any Swedish anymore these days. The morning newspaper and the books I get in my classes, and seeing as I currently only have Physics, Chemisty, Biology, English and Swedish, the only books where reading Swedish text is actually a major part are mySwedish and Biology ones.
Now English on the other hand. If I watch a movie, it's in English, often including the subtitles. Books are English nowadays, such as the Diablo Archive. All my computer games are in English. Whenever I browse Wikipedia, which is a lot, it's in English. I even think in English. And I write in English, every damn post I make here is in it, and I've accumulated a lot of them.
It's strange really. The only area where I still excel in Swedish is talking, my Swedish speech has a better flow. But even then I like to toss in English terms every now and then.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Well I'm not really worried in that sense, it's more something I just came to realize today that English is becoming an integral part of my everyday life. I'm guessing the solution is, as you say, to cut down on the English reading and use Swedish subs again as well as reading Swedish books. I'm not all enthusiastic though

Yeah, i got the same thing, but my lingo is horrible (both native and English). I have this very irritating tendency of over complicating sentences. Don't really know why i do this but i feel like i have to cram as much information explaining what i want to say and detailing it as much as possible (nuancing it, exemplifying it) in as little space possible (i'm doing it again you know) resulting in sentences which i even find to be difficult to comprehend. Couple this with horrible spelling and you get a cluster fuck of headache inducing reading material.
I guess I'm the opposite. Sometimes when I reread what I've just finished typing, it turns out I've used way too many commas and not nearly enough periods.

Free WoW Power Leveling: Stay Away From Scam SitesIf you've ever done a search for power leveling on Google or Yahoo, you know how expensive these services can cost you. Who wants to pay three or four hundred dollars just so somebody else gets to play the game for you? It seems insane, but people actually fall for these services, many of which turn out to be scams anyway. You should never give away your account information to anybody, and even Blizzard will never ask your for that information. However, leveling up your character as quickly as possible does have a lot of allure. With free WoW power leveling, you can get all the benefits of power leveling without paying a single cent. Don't Pay Somebody Else Where is the logic in paying somebody else to play the game for you? It simply doesn't make any sense, and you're missing out on at least half of what World of WarCraft has to offer you. However, you don't need to take your time if you don't want to. Free WoW Power Leveling lets you quickly progress through 70 levels without breaking a sweat. There are some guides for free online, although you can alternatively choose to pay a small fee (about $30 or so) for some of the more comprehensive guides out there. 100% free WoW power leveling is all about choices though, and you're given a whole bunch to get to level 70 with. First, you can choose between grinding and questing. The latter is probably more entertaining to a lot of folks, but it can present some difficulties at times for casual players. Firstly, some quests require groups to complete, but free WoW power leveling will help you choose the quests which are easy for solo players to complete on their own. Some might reasonably argue that the whole reason of playing an MMO is to play with other folks, but sometimes it's just easier to do things on your own. By being able to complete solo quests, you'll become a stronger player overall because you won't have to rely on others to keep your alive and help you complete objectives. Of course, you could always turn to grinding for your free WoW power leveling needs. Grinding is a little less entertaining because it refers to monotonous killing of monsters over and over to rack up those experience points. Still, you can set the pace at which you want to earn experience with this method, and if one monster is too powerful for you, you can always just move onto another area. Both questing and grinding will help you level up more quickly than you would by figuring things out on your own, and free WoW power leveling means you won't have to pay anything to level up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Welcome to our wow power leveling site:The wow power leveling exchange of experience, wow powerleveling, cheap world of warcraft gold, world of warcraft powerleveling, cheap wow gold for sale.LWB
If that's so then I've already lost, I think half of all my thoughts are in English nowadays.
the concept of thinking in two different tongues just blows my mind, i cant even really conceive it. I took spanish for 5 years and had to force myself to think in spanish to get a little better. Everything is english for me, i couldn't imagine thinking in two languages, thats so peculiar from my standpoint.

I feel the same way. I'm so jealous of people who know more than one tongue, I want to learn another language so badly so I can know what its like and sound smart (or at least seem culturally adjusted). And those people always take their multi-language skills for granted. Phrozen, don't lose your Swedish tongue!

Hahhahahahaah, oh man, that was so funny (and I don't mean that sarcastically at all). You know, I'm going to save that paragraph into my little ideas journal for inspiration. Just then you sounded like a really interesting character with an interesting story. Kind of reminds me of the main guy in Trainspotting. Its more of a style rather than just bad grammar, because its still said in a way that is readable and understandable (and even includes a nice vocabulary), but it just happens to be extra long. So keep your way of writing, its interesting. Though I imagine it gives you quite a headache for yourself if thats how you think, too.
yeah well you are not the only one..its globalisation...we are using words as noob, pwns etc..look at japan, it had and has a remarkable culture, but its all americanized now with video games, movies, dressing style..whole world s americanized and we are loosing our differences as a separate nation, and its all because of raw capitalism that knows no nation, only nation of money.
I have two standpoints when it comes to globalization. On one hand you have greedy corperations that are basically enslaving consumerism and in the process eliminating culture, on the other hand, a society with one language would eliminate the language barriers and allow us to work together. I personally want to learn japanese because I like their culture, but I also have lots of other priorities so I don't know if I'll ever get to it.
Shit man, it's happening to me too, and I don't want to sound paranoid here but this language is fucking with my head... I don't socialize much with people in real life so I don't get a chance to communicate outside of MSN or video games that often, and then I find myself being unable to put together a sentence without translating English words to Serbian in my mind. And I used to be really sleek with words in my day. My teachers and professors always commended my eloquence and rich style.
I guess I should start reading some textbooks in my home language or something...

It happens the exact same thing to me... I'm a Spanish speaker but sometimes I find myself thinking in English and trying to remember how a word was said in English, kind of "How was "audifonos" said in Engish?". Then i think to myself "Why the f*** am I thinking in English?" and start thinking in Spanish again
Sorta happens to me. I'm not in a hurry to keep Russian intact because I don't imagine myself making much use of it. English and European languages are much more useful...
I also started off as bilingual between Russian and Ukrainian and that didn't help the situation: neither my Ukrainian nor Russian grammar was ever properly studied.

imagine speaking 3 languages (which was my case for some years). used to be fluent in Greek (still am), English (well, i'm good but not too good) and German (used to be fluent aswell, but now i'm only able to understand stuff and can barely talk at all).
Its hard to keep your level high without experiencing the language today. As Phrozen already said, english is pretty much everywhere you look at these days while (in my case german) other languages arent. I'm glad i dont have any problems with my greek, yet, but i started watching more greek tv shows and reading even more books than i used to (even stuff translated in greek) to keep the level where i want it to be.
Ohh, right, lol. Thanks Cap, somehow I forgot that extension existed.
The second language that I really want to learn is Latin. They teach it in some schools, and most kids probably hate it, but they don't teach it where I live! I am so disappointed. I'm gonna have to move to England or somewhere to learn it.
Well I think some of you guys are taking my words a little bit too seriously. I don't think I'll actually forget it, that's probably never going to happen. However writing a professional email in a future career may prove to be a bit harder

Start watching movies with Swedish sub titles? So you're reading in Swedish and listening in English
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
well i would say you should probably delve into some swedish books and movies just to keep that part of you alive
