Just something I've been thinking about lately.
What do you guys think happened to the last group of heroes? Will they be NPC's in the next game or will they make a comeback as player characters?
I'm probably just looking into this to deeply but.
Looking over the current Barbarian in the 20 min video, the Barb looked to me like a 20 year older version of the Diablo 2 Barbarian. Voice was familiar, grey hair etc. Plus he seems to be rather familiar with Cain, but then again the 20 min video could be bit into the game already where the player character have already interacted with Cain for awhile.
Also anyone else reminded of Charsi when you look at the female Barbarian?
I would venture to guess that most of the heroes/NPC's of the last game are either dead or incredibly old. Blizzard reps said in an interview that the life expectancy of the average person on Sanctuary is less than forty years, much like in the real-life Middle Ages. That would mean that most of the heroes or NPC's, who were probably all in their late-teens and twenties, would probably now be dead.
Some NPC's are supposedly going to be making comebacks though.
The Paladin I imagine would be glorified by the Zakarum.
The Druid probably went back to his homeland. If he is corrupted, he may have somehow corrupted the other druids and their peaceful land too.
Ditto for the Amazon.
Sorceress could become a poewrful figure in Kurast and have a massive lust for power (she kind of already does).
Assassin I can't imagine being corrupted, but she could have somehow gone on a killing spree against Mages.
Necromancer could be corrupted in a similar way that the Necro villain in Moon of the Spider is. He thinks he is doing the right thing for the balance, but really he's not.
I would imagine the Druid living alone somewhere in the middle of nowhere, probably encouraging the local animals to kill any humanoid who enters his territory.
Beware the bunnies of doom!!!

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
We must get to meet at least one of the heroes from D2, that should be mandatory. I mean, standing face to face with probably one of the most powerful mortals ever would be great, something we've never gotten to do in either of the Diablo games. With Blizzard's increased focus on character-driven story, I hope this happens.
As what really happened to them, I don't know. We don't know whether their lands, people, organizations and traditions survived or are even "remembered" in D3.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
As stated above, I think the Barbarian in Diablo III may indeed be one of the heroes that killed the Evils. The classes which don't appear as player characters will probably be bosses, while the characters that return may struggle with their own age and/or corruption in their class quest(s).
In fact, I can definitely imagine a Witch Doctor fighting a corrupted Necromancer; the Necromancer in the first place was susceptible to corruption, and the Witch Doctor would be forced to reconsider his/her own path after seeing the fate (at his/her hands) of one similar, adding character depth.

Depending on how you interpret one of the developer panels, the Barbarian is in fact a hero from D2. Blizzard said he was the same barbarian, but it could mean he was just the same class however, so it's not official. At least as far as I'm aware.

It cant be the one from DII. The DIII barb doesnt have any tatoos. I hardly think I during those 20 years he has been to the doctor to have them removed with a laser
I think they will all show up at some pint in the storyline if they don't make a comeback they will probably help you somehow. Pali has to comeback, i want to owned again with hammerdins so that everyone complains how overpower we are in PvM(Paladin only purpose is to destroy evil of course we are suppose to be that good at PvM lol)
The necro will probably replace the Witch doctor or be a separate class, I want to command and army again=).
I think it would do nothing but help their story along if they added the Heroes from II...

Wasn't the Paladin a Knight of Westmarch, not affiliated with the Zakarum? Despite his help, I find it unlikely another religion would be very happy with his interference (and slaughter, whether necessary or not, of their people).

Perhaps (as previously discussed elsewhere), that the 'tattoos' are actually just warpaint, not actually permanent.
