Riot Games, the game company who created League of Legends, has taken a stand against the discussed bills of Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the Senate and Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the House of Representatives.
Not only does the post cover how these bills will affect the Internet, but it shows initiative from the game industry.
I've just e-mailed the Representative and both Senators of California to take a stance against the bills and by bringing the message here to DiabloFans, I hope you guys do too.
I sent letters to my three NY representatives a few months ago against it. Only one responded, saying he was for it, essentially just saying 'piracy is bad'. He then quoted a bunch of worthless dollar figures about how much money piracy loses America, skirting any of the issues regarding free speech, due process of law, and pushy lobbying activities.
Yeah, I got the same recycled garbage response from one of my Reps here in NM. So I replied "Have fun working at McDonald's!" I hope the Secret Service isn't after me now. :-)
This is what bugs me about living in Canada; we either get directly affected by your laws or copy them right after... but we have no say in your politics or system... oh well hope you guys can work it out.
Is it possible it could affect Europe somehow..? It sounds terrible from what I've read from LoL forum, I am against! But I'm from EU, so probably I have no right for a word on this.
Even if foreign you can still help. If you have any American friends/acquaintances you can help persuade them to act. Or keep informing people over the Internet itself.
How would the PIP Act effect games?
(and btw SOPA is like the prohibition of the internet)
PIPA itself goes against basic US Constitutional rights of free speech on the Internet. In a loose summary, the act allows the US government to crackdown/ban on any material that it deemed "offensive," this of course can translate into many obvious harmful effects.
