I'm a male and I will be playing female characters. Since I will be spending quite long time looking at that character, I'm guessing female characters will be a little bit easier for the eyes. I'm hoping really, that will be the case.
I will go male all the way. I think characters are more bad-ass male, in every single rpg. The only exception might be the female witch doctor. Reminds me of my ex girlfriend
I am a male and the gender of my first character is most definitely going to be male. I've played WoW for over 6 years and I've never ever created a female character and I doubt I will ever do. I somehow just find it sad to play a female character when you're male in real life, but it has never been that big of a problem for me. I mean, it's ok if you do it, but I take games rather seriously and it's not like I dress as a girl in real life.
Do you also wield a sword, have giant muscles, and fight demons in real life? Im guessing not... Seems like you don't act like your hero in real life either.
Monk = Female (Female monks look AWESOME!!!)
DH = Female
Barb = Male
Wizard = Female
Witch Doctor = Male
I played a hunter in WOW for almost 7 years and I was always a female character (Night elf first then Worgen in cata) but as for alts, I had a male paladin, male DK, female rogue. for some classes you just cant play as male.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled
was convincing the world he didn't exist.
I´m male and all my wizzards will be female, just because the male wizzard looks weird. Other classes will probably be random, gender wise. Also, it's not an avatar of myself (like this http://www.essentialmagicimages.com/53/36828.jpg, serious stuff), so character gender and portraits for Profile will be based on a "cool" ranking.
I'm a guy, I'll play a male character. After all, we know in the internet world GIRL = guy in real life. No need to confuse anyone more than is necessary. Always bothered me in WoW when you'd jump in a vent for the first time for a raid and all the sudden a "CutieMcFruity" is a 45 year old guy in his mom's basement...(or sounds like it?)
So yeah, power to the playing your actual gender! No need to mix up gender roles in an RPG
It really depend on which character I choose to play first. It's a tossup of Monk/Demon Hunter/Witch Doctor (this all depends on which character I decide to play with my brother).
If I go Monk it will be a female because she reminds me of the Assassin from D2.
If I go Demon Hunter it will be a female because chicks with guns (or crossbows in this case) are sexy.
If I go Witch Doctor it will be a female because, well...I'd rather play as a crust old woman than a crusty old man
Generally, I play male characters in most of my games because I too am a male. The only way I see myself playing a female character is if either the male model sucks or in games like Diablo III that have trailers based on a certain class/gender combo (most likely going to play a female demon hunter). The only other exception to the above "rules" is a female wizard, but that's mostly due to the nostalgia of my good ol meteorb sorc from Diablo II. Ahhh good times doing dozens of Baal/Meph runs
I'm male in real live but I've always played female characters in games where I can choose. I find that a female in high end gear just looks more impressive and unique. For Diablo the only male character I'd probably play is the barbarian. I don't really like the way the female barb looks. Plus female wizard has Azula's voice. Can't get more awesome than that.
All females. I like to look at a womans butt more than a mans...I am funny that way I suppose. Except the female bard, she looks like a terminator tranny!!
PS: The male wizard looks like johnny douchebag depp.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
I'm male and at the moment and actually from the day I knew all the classes in the D3 I had this list:
Barbarian - Male. Barbarian is the closest thing to me irl, from size to the nature of him. Monk - Most likely male as in 90% sure it will be male. Monk reminds me so much of an Aang from Avatar and if D3 launches before Legend of Korra, it will be a nice tribute. Wizard - again - there is nothing to think about here, wizard reminds me so much of sorceress in D2, that I will make it female. Demon Hunter - female. Reminds me much of an assassin in LoD. Witch Doctor - I am least interested in this class, but if/or when I am going to play it, it will be male.

then you will die quickly be prepared to be slaughterd lol just knockin yah around
I am male in rl, and since probably will go with Wizard first, haven't really decided yet, but that one was like one i decided to go with since they published all classes, will play it as female coz used to Sorceress been female in Diablo 2, so.. If however i change my mind and go for WD will play it as a male, since Necro was my favorite and first character in Diablo 2 and just fits to be guy.
I just... have this urge to play some characters as female, some as male. When i play wizards or ranged in general, they'll be female, tanks or other melee oriented characters will always be male.

I was going to go with Wizard female but I couldn't create any built with high arcane regen which would not have to use basic regen skills. Because of that I'm gonna go with DH female and I am also suspecting she will be more entertaining as it may be more difficult to master.
So male barb and female DH. After them I will roll female wizard.

Male witch doctor, Female wizard, Male barb, Male DH and Male Monk.
1st - Male Monk
2nd - Male Barb
3rd - Female Sorc
4th - Female DH
5th - Male WD
I just think the gender I picked for each class looks the best. But have to say Female Monk is also badass.
